Changqing and Lin Lin emerged from the forest, just in time to see Wen Sheng and his sister sitting on a tree stump, chatting away. Wen Xin was nestled against her brother, looking adorably charming. 0

As they approached, Wen Sheng and Wen Xin stood up, glancing back at the small forest behind them. The poplar trees were not very tall, their white trunks gleaming under the moonlight, standing in neat rows. The leaves were lush, swaying gently in the breeze. Some low weeds added a touch of mystery to the woods, while a few birds chirped joyfully, still awake. The snow-like moonlight illuminated the ground, making the path appear bright and clear. Wen Xin giggled as she rushed over to grab Lin Lin's hand, exclaiming, "Lin Sister! What have you two been up to?" 0

Lin Lin smiled shyly, "Oh, nothing much. Changqing was just singing! Didn't you hear him?" 0

Wen Xin's eyes twinkled mischievously as she asked, "Was there nothing else? Like... quietly, that Er Ge and I didn’t hear? Hehe!" She looked at Lin Lin with a playful grin. 0

Lin Lin blushed and laughed, "No, really! There’s nothing else; we were just chatting!" 0

"Did Changqing give you anything?" Wen Xin continued her relentless questioning with curiosity. 0

Lin Lin seemed a bit annoyed and lightly tapped Wen Xin on the head, laughing, "Hey! Why are you asking so many questions?" 0

Wen Xin shielded her head with her hands, bending over and looking up at Lin Lin with a cheeky smile. "I know! Er Ge told me! You two are in love! Hehe! How embarrassing!" 0

With that, Wen Xin playfully jumped away, leaving Lin Lin no chance to retaliate. 0

At that moment, Lin Lin turned to Wen Sheng with a mock glare, pretending to be angry. "This is all your fault! What if Wen Xin goes around causing trouble?" 0

Wen Sheng chuckled. "Don’t worry! She’s the mastermind; she was the one who brought you out here to meet Changqing. If anything goes wrong, just deny it and blame her! I’ll make sure she understands not to misbehave. Hehe!" 0

Hearing this, Lin Lin couldn’t help but cover her mouth as she laughed. "Haha! You’re quite the brother! Shifting all the blame onto your sister while keeping your hands clean—what if Wen Xin gets in trouble?!" She looked at Wen Sheng as if defending Wen Xin. It seemed that dealing with women was indeed quite complicated. 0

Wen Sheng was calm and collected. "So I'm sure she won't make a fuss. Don't worry! Neither Wen Xin nor I will let anything slip about your good fortune with Changqing. Just wait until you both are ready," he said, laughing as he ran off to catch up with Wen Xin. He really needed to remind Wen Xin to keep things under wraps. 0

Wen Sheng caught up with Wen Xin and took her hand, carefully explaining the stakes involved. In the countryside, if a girl were to date a boy, she would be labeled as flirtatious and improper, which could lead to serious consequences! 0

Changqing decided to head home since his house was not far from there—less than ten minutes on foot. So, Lin Lin bid farewell to Changqing and hurried after Wen Sheng and Wen Xin. Along the way, Lin Lin kept reminding Wen Xin that this matter must remain confidential. She even promised to give Wen Xin a gift to sweeten the deal. Wen Xin giggled and nodded repeatedly, assuring Lin Lin that she would definitely keep it a secret. 0

Wen Xin and Wen Sheng walked Lin Lin back home. Upon seeing her mother, Lin Lin exclaimed, "Wen Xin is really something! Wen Sheng just scolded her a bit, and she got all upset. I had to bring her back to Wen Sheng so he could apologize! Only then did she calm down, ha ha!" Girls seem to have a natural talent for exaggeration; it appears no one needs to teach them that. 0

Lin Lin's mother thought it was true and laughed, saying, "Wen Xin is really spoiled by Wen Sheng! And now she needs an apology? You should get some rest; you have classes tomorrow!" She smiled and gently ruffled Wen Xin's hair. 0

Wen Xin cheerfully said goodbye to Auntie and then headed home with Wen Sheng. 0

Lin Lin's father had also returned and was watching television. Her two brothers came back as well, ready for bed since they had classes in the morning. Lin Lin exchanged a few casual words with her father before retreating to her own room. 0

Lin Lin's family wasn't wealthy. Her room was located on the east side of the courtyard next to the main house, with a wooden door that opened towards the west—very simple and basic. The room was less than one square meter in size, with mud walls that had been smoothed over and sprayed with whitewash. Fortunately, Lin Lin had bought some posters of celebrities to decorate the walls. In the northern part of the room stood her bed, surrounded by a simple red floral curtain that made it look tidy, complete with a bamboo mat on top. At the foot of the bed lay a neatly folded sheet. A single mosquito net hung above the bed; Lin Lin often washed it, so it was quite clean and pretty. 0

On her bedside table rested an embroidered white pillow that Lin Lin had made herself, featuring two little ducks playing in water. Next to it was her favorite white toy cat—quite large, with long fur as white as snow. Its eyes were made of transparent plastic filled with blue lights. The cat contained electronic components that could hold batteries; whenever Lin Lin felt happy or sad, she would shake it gently. It would sing a cheerful tune—the song "Seeing the Wind Rise" by Zhao Wei—just those few lines over and over again. This toy was quite expensive; Aunt Flow had gifted it to her for her birthday last year. Aunt Flow's family was well-off, so her words carried weight in their household since they owed money. 0

Lin Lin turned off the lights in her room and switched on the blue lamp on her bedside table. She hugged her toy cat tightly and shook it vigorously; the cat joyfully sang her favorite song. Lin Lin pressed the cat against her face affectionately while shaking her head back and forth, letting her soft hair flow freely. 0

After changing out of her clothes, she turned on the fan hanging above the mosquito net. She lifted the clean white curtain and bent down to crawl inside before switching off the lamp. Lying on her side in bed, she pulled up the sheet from the foot of the bed over herself and closed her enchanting eyes, revealing a sweet smile on her fair face. Her rounded arms moved playfully across herself as if swatting at imaginary mosquitoes inside the netting. Her toes painted in purple nail polish wiggled restlessly; she wasn't asleep yet—her eyes were closed but not still! 0

After a while, Lin Lin lifted the sheet and sat cross-legged on her bed. Listening carefully for any sounds from outside, she confirmed that both her parents were asleep along with her brothers. Gently brushing aside her long hair that fell across her chest, she tiptoed over to turn on the lamp above her bedside table while using a diary hidden under her pillow to shield its light. Then she stealthily took down a piece of clothing hanging from the curtain and carefully retrieved a neatly folded letter from her pocket that exuded a faint fragrance. Lin Lin sniffed it before slowly unfolding… 0
