Ding Yan was perplexed. It seemed that many people wanted to kill this journalist. Unable to suppress her curiosity, she returned to her residence and logged into the cloud storage provided by the journalist, finally uncovering the truth behind the events.
The journalist had discovered crimes committed by a criminal organization in the United States. This organization not only smuggled crude oil but also controlled an oil field in Africa, enslaving and slaughtering local residents. However, the journalist was aware of the consequences of exposing such information, which made him hesitant. Ultimately, driven by his journalistic integrity, he decided to reveal the truth. Unfortunately, before he could do so, someone found him and threatened him into handing over his materials. With no choice but to protect his family, he complied.
What he thought would be the end of the matter turned out to be just the beginning; assassins were soon on his trail. Yet, the journalist had left a backup plan. He copied all his materials onto a cloud storage account and, before his death, shared this information with Ding Yan.
Thus, Ding Yan inadvertently stumbled into this murky situation. She downloaded the files from the cloud and sent them to various media outlets, only to discover that those outlets were already colluding with the criminal organization. As a result, she not only found herself being hunted by this organization but also pursued by the Black Sky Organization because assassins were not allowed to interfere in their employers' affairs, and Ding Yan had clearly violated that rule.
For days, Ding Yan evaded capture until she decided to return to Huaxia to lay low. Although she had no nationality, deep down she still considered herself a Huaxia person. Despite being of mixed heritage, her appearance leaned more towards that of Huaxia people.
Ding Yan's story was indeed thrilling, but to Jiang Chen, it was merely a trivial matter. However, he recognized her potential; after all, she came from a background of training as an assassin.
While Jiang Chen had taken Lin Yin and Ye Ming as apprentices, they still needed time to hone their mental fortitude. Ding Yan, on the other hand, required no such training; at least when it came to killing—if Jiang Chen instructed her to murder someone, she would not hesitate or faint at the sight of blood.
Seeing that Jiang Chen remained expressionless after hearing her tale, Ding Yan hesitantly asked, "Aren't you afraid? This is no small matter."
"Honestly, I'm more interested in you than in this earth-shattering secret you mentioned. Do you have a place to stay in Huaxia?" Jiang Chen inquired.
"Not at the moment," Ding Yan replied, increasingly puzzled by Jiang Chen's intentions.
"Since you have nowhere to go, why don't you come with me?" Jiang Chen stated directly.
Ding Yan was taken aback and stared at Jiang Chen in disbelief. "Are you sure? I'm like a raging fire right now. If you take me in, you'll surely get burned too. I don't want to drag you down."
"You probably won't be able to drag me down," Jiang Chen said confidently. "If you agree to follow me from now on, I can help you find your mother."
"Really?" Ding Yan's face lit up with joy but quickly turned despondent. "In this vast sea of people, it's been over twenty years; how can it be that easy?"
"I have my ways. Ding Yan, it's settled then—once we reach Shanghai, you'll come with me," Jiang Chen declared with an undeniable tone.
"I haven't agreed yet," Ding Yan exclaimed in surprise at Jiang Chen's assertiveness.
"You have no choice," Jiang Chen replied firmly.
"You just said you're not interested in women! How come you're acting so aggressively now? But if you can help me find my mother, I could consider being your woman," Ding Yan said earnestly.
Jiang Chen broke into a slight sweat; it seemed Ding Yan had misunderstood his intentions.
