"Hate. If it weren't for him, my mother and I wouldn't have been separated, and I wouldn't have become a killer," Ding Yan said indignantly.
"Then just kill him," Jiang Chen replied nonchalantly.
"I once thought about killing him, but in the end, I gave up. I just can't bring myself to do it," Ding Yan said, a hint of pain in her voice.
"That's cause and effect. Perhaps you should thank him. If he hadn't abandoned his wife and daughter, you wouldn't have met me," Jiang Chen said with a smile.
Ding Yan glanced at Jiang Chen and couldn't help but smile bitterly.
"Family ties can be valuable at times, yet worthless at others. All emotions in this world are the same; you don't need to be too fixated on them," Jiang Chen said.
Although Ding Yan didn't fully understand what Jiang Chen meant, she nodded nonetheless.
She shifted her gaze from the middle-aged man to her mother, Yelina. There seemed to be an unspoken connection between them. Yelina appeared to sense something; when Ding Yan looked at her, she raised her head to meet Ding Yan's gaze. However, after years apart, Yelina no longer recognized what her daughter looked like. Seeing Ding Yan looking at her with a complex expression made Yelina feel strange, and she smiled awkwardly at her.
"What are you looking at?" Zhao Hun asked when he noticed his wife lost in thought.
"That girl has been staring at me; I wonder who she is," Yelina replied, puzzled. Although she missed her daughter, she wasn't so self-absorbed as to mistake a random girl for her own child.
Zhao Hun looked at Ding Yan, his expression momentarily faltering as a glint of cunning flashed in his eyes. He had always been interested in beautiful women. Ever since marrying Yelina, who no longer paid him much attention, he sometimes didn't bother hiding his greed and desire for other attractive women in front of her. After decades of indulging in the company of beautiful women—cold, charming, and seductive—he found that Ding Yan possessed a unique allure he had never encountered before.
As a killer, Ding Yan had an exceptional physique, resembling a model. Her gaze could be both enchanting and icy, setting her apart from other women. It was only natural that Zhao Hun would find her intriguing.
"I didn't expect such a stunning beauty! But I don't think I've seen her before; I wonder who she's with. I'll go ask," Zhao Hun said with a grin.
Yelina understood her husband's intentions. She smiled and released his arm, saying, "You can go check it out; I'll wait for you here."
Zhao Hun nodded eagerly, straightening his suit and putting on what he believed was an attractive smile as he approached Ding Yan with a glass of champagne in hand.
When Ding Yan saw Zhao Hun coming over, her expression darkened slightly.
"Ding Yan, handle your own matters. I'm going to grab something to eat over there. Of course, you can deal with it however you want. Remember, I keep you by my side because you're a killer; there's no need to show mercy to those seeking death—kill them if necessary," Jiang Chen said with a smile before heading to the nearby buffet table alone.
This was Ding Yan's personal affair; Jiang Chen hoped she could resolve it herself.
Hearing Jiang Chen's words left Ding Yan feeling somewhat at a loss. She hadn't come here today for murder; as a killer, she wouldn't expose herself unnecessarily. Although Zhao Hun's lecherous demeanor annoyed her, she was certain she wouldn't kill him. However, teaching Zhao Hun a lesson wouldn't be out of the question.
