Zhou Yu sneered, "This isn't the first day you've been watching. Clearly, it all started from the moment we left the country."
Every step—messages, threats, going abroad—had all been orchestrated according to his plan. Yet, playing chess this way would only lead him into a dead end. What was he aiming for?
To provoke death itself? That was why he couldn't die; he had to save him. Nan Jing Dan's phoenix eyes were filled with shadows.
He could probably guess Yue Tong's thoughts.
Yun Zhi Yue, having changed residences seven times in half a month, boredly watched Yue Tong eat.
"Surprised to see you actually have time to eat today. Aren't you busy dealing with trouble?"
Just as she finished speaking, gunshots rang out from outside. Yun Zhi Yue rolled her eyes; it seemed she had overthought things.
When would this forced escape come to an end?
Yue Tong handed Yun Zhi Yue a pair of chopsticks. "Eat with me. You're not wrong; I've indeed had some free time lately."
The pursuers were closing in tightly, but they seemed to be easing off, likely due to the Nan Family's intervention.
Yun Zhi Yue's eyes widened. "The Nan Family? Has Nan Jing come? Oh my god, is she going to be in big trouble?"
Had her parents noticed that she had been kidnapped?
Yue Tong's expression was no longer gentle as before; he glanced at Yun Zhi Yue, whose emotions shifted rapidly across her face. His cold demeanor softened slightly.
"I didn't kill your bodyguard. On the first day I took you away, Nan Jing arrived in the country. He helped keep it a secret; Yun Shu still doesn't know."
Yun Zhi Yue sighed in relief; Gang Zi was alive after all. Otherwise, she wouldn't feel at ease.
Setting down her chopsticks, Yun Zhi Yue was forcibly pulled onto Yue Tong's lap.
The rich scent of mandragora intensified her resistance, but Yue Tong firmly held her waist.
"Do you know why I haven't touched you?"
Yue Tong smirked and answered his own question, "That's because it doesn't matter whether I do or not. You've been with me for so long; even if you return to Nan Jing's side, will he believe that nothing happened between us?"
Yun Zhi Yue frowned. "You're insane! Is it not enough that Huo Huo died? You have to torment me too?"
"Yes, I want to torment you. Who told you to owe me? That kidnapping back in high school wasn't my design; I almost got beaten to death trying to save you."
"Yun Zhi Yue," he continued, "I told you I've returned to the dark side, so don't hold any expectations of me. Before I die, you and Nan Jing will never have a future."
With a loud slap, Yun Zhi Yue pushed Yue Tong away forcefully and gave him a hard slap on the face. "Crazy!"
Lying on the big bed, she tossed and turned, her heart filled with frustration.
In truth, she didn’t really care whether there was a future with Nan Jing; what mattered to her was that the progress had reached a critical point, and she was just one step away from success. If the progress slipped, there would be risks involved. She feared that she wouldn’t be able to explain herself clearly to Nan Jing and might end up being cut off.
"Damn it, Shi Ge, do you have to take so long just to visit relatives? As long as you come back and help me block the rules, Ben Meng Po could take down this jerk in no time."
A fallen phoenix is worse than a chicken; besides, she wasn’t a phoenix—just a little grass.
Sprawled out on the bed with her head hanging over the edge, the image of a beautiful yet morose girl emerged.
No wonder the Reincarnation Stone had sought her out for this mission; her spirits had plummeted within half an hour, and now she was starting to feel drowsy.
She had no idea what time it was; all she knew was that dawn hadn’t fully broken yet.
Suddenly, she was yanked up by Yue Tong, whose body was drenched in blood, and roughly shoved into a car. The chaos of a survival game began.
Listening to the incessant gunfire outside, Yun Zhi Yue felt utterly speechless. "Why don’t you consider not dragging me along as a burden?"
Yue Tong swiftly loaded bullets without even turning around. "In key moments, you can serve as a meat shield; you’re quite useful."
Cursing countless times in her mind at this absurdity, Yun Zhi Yue chose to remain silent.
But then Yue Tong seemed to get excited. "Do you know what I just did? That high-ranking official who caused my dad’s downfall years ago? I just sent his entire family down to pay my dad back."
