Her mind was hazy, with only a flicker of awareness remaining. Wrapped in his embrace, she recognized the familiar scent of Nan Jing, deeply etched in her memory. Instinctively, she nestled closer, her warm body brushing against his neck, a testament to their closeness.
Yun Xiaoxiao and Ji Yan, who was driving, glanced at the couple in the back seat. Their position was undeniably intimate. They were in a hospital, and Jian Qinzhi was aware that Yun Zhi Yue had a fever and was disoriented, but he didn’t dwell on it. As an elder, he felt it was inappropriate for them to be so close and considered adjusting their positions.
Yun Zhi Yue wore an open trench coat over the bare-back dress she had worn for a photoshoot. Feeling as if she might be pulled away, she struggled slightly against Nan Jing’s embrace, feeling somewhat dissatisfied with how she was being treated.
As they tussled, Jian Qinzhi frowned. The physical differences between men and women made such close contact inappropriate. He decided to hold her waist and lift her to place her on the other side of the seat. Unfortunately, as he reached into the wide trench coat, he was unaware that Yun Zhi Yue was bare-backed underneath.
When he squeezed, the soft warmth of her skin transmitted directly to his brain without any barrier. The pressure caused Yun Zhi Yue to frown and murmur, “Don’t touch me; it feels uncomfortable.”
Yun Xiaoxiao’s eyes widened in surprise. Ji Yan’s expression turned peculiar; although no one spoke in the car, an odd atmosphere enveloped them. Jian Qinzhi’s gaze shifted slightly as he intended to withdraw his hand, but Yun Zhi Yue took advantage of his momentary distraction to snuggle even closer into his arms, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist.
He withdrew his hand from under her clothing and regained his composure, allowing Yun Zhi Yue to cling to him while he stared out the window in silence.
“Such progress,” Reincarnation Stone remarked playfully, observing Jian Qinzhi's subtle changes with keen interest.
When Yun Zhi Yue woke up, she found herself in a room with an IV drip hanging by her bedside. She had expected to be in the hospital but was surprised to find herself at Jian Family’s home. Everything looked just as she remembered it.
Yun Xiaoxiao sat by her side and beamed when she saw her awake. She took Yun Zhi Yue's hand excitedly and asked, “Are you feeling any discomfort? The doctor said you didn’t rest well and didn’t eat properly; you’ve exhausted yourself. Jian Shu brought you here since we have a family doctor.”
Noticing the swollen spot on her hand where the IV had been inserted, Yun Zhi Yue grimaced slightly and replied, “Sister, my hand hurts.”
Yun Xiaoxiao suddenly realized that she was holding onto the IV drip.
"I'm so sorry, Yun Zhi Yue. I'll call the doctor for you."
After a series of commotion, her sister Hong Fu was dragged in, and she received another injection. Jian Qinzhi also came in upon hearing the noise.
With a worried expression, Yun Xiaoxiao said, "Yun Zhi Yue, you should stay here. You can't take care of yourself at all."
Yun Zhi Yue shook her head. "I'm busy; it's not convenient for me to stay. Besides, this isn't your home; it's Jian Shu's. You have no right to invite me. Sister, don't live in such a muddled way."
Yun Xiaoxiao was momentarily speechless, her hands twisting together as she lowered her head.
Jian Qinzhi leaned against the foot of the bed and spoke casually, "It seems like you think you're the one playing the role of the older sister, acting all clear-headed. Look at you compared to Yun Xiaoxiao; she's carefree while you're here torturing yourself, and you can't even afford a meal."
"I'm curious, which of you sisters is truly clear-headed and who is smarter?"
Yun Zhi Yue suddenly glanced down at Yun Xiaoxiao and caught a glimpse of something amiss.
Yun Xiaoxiao wasn't foolish at all!
Perhaps it was precisely her foolishness that allowed her to persevere on her path. There was nothing wrong with that; after all, Yun Xiaoxiao's way was valid too.
