Unmoved by Mo Li's intimidation, Yun Zhi Yue's mind was consumed by a single thought: one of the spouses!
One? This meant there could be a second, third, fourth, or even seventh! My goodness, is this really a world? Cao Cao Cao, this is challenging my worldview!
Seeing Mo Li's stubbornness, the clan leader found it difficult to say anything. The aroma of meat wafted through the air, and as he gazed at the green plant juices on the stone slab, his eyes flickered: What is this?
Yun Zhi Yue quickly snapped back to reality; she needed to survive in the Serpent Clan, and she couldn’t afford to offend the clan leader. She immediately spoke up: "This is just ordinary grass; the juice has a salty flavor. It tastes great when smeared on meat. Please, try some!"
As she spoke, she wrapped a piece of juicy roasted meat in green leaves and handed it over.
The clan leader took it and bit into it, his eyes brightening: "This tastes much better! The grass juice is edible and non-toxic; everyone should try it in the future. How did you discover this?"
"I found it occasionally while eating grass," she replied.
Many male beastmen looked at her with pity; they could only eat grass while others enjoyed meat—how pitiful indeed.
The females were more alert, with one questioning: "Even if you are a deformity, you must know what your tribe is. How do we know you weren't sent here by our enemies from the Serpent Clan?"
Yun Zhi Yue was caught off guard by the question; she had no idea what tribe she belonged to! She thought about making something up but worried that if her lie was exposed, it would be worse than saying nothing at all.
Feigning fear, she shrank back into Mo Li's embrace, trembling.
Mo Li's gaze turned cold as he held the small figure in his arms. His thick black snake tail swiftly lashed out.
The clan members gasped; if it weren't for the two spouses of this female being present and blocking with their own snake tails, she would have been struck dead.
It was well-known that females had far less attack power than males.
The female who had spoken turned pale with fright, and her two male companions were not faring much better; their tails drooped as if they had been broken.
The clan leader's expression darkened as he scolded: "Mo Li, how can you strike against your own kin?"
"Ha! If I wanted to strike them down, their tails would already be severed from their bodies. It doesn’t matter what tribe my female belongs to; I will take care of her myself without your interference."
Males protecting their females was acceptable behavior. They knew that pressing further would only backfire; with the Eagle Tribe lurking nearby, they couldn't afford to offend powerful serpent beastmen like the Mo Family Brothers.
Reluctantly, the clan leader led his people away, temporarily accepting Yun Zhi Yue's presence.
As everyone dispersed, Mo Li gently patted Yun Zhi Yue's back. Even with such a light touch, Yun Zhi Yue felt as if he wanted to crush her. Despite this, she couldn't help but feel flattered by Mo Li's affection; after all, he was quite handsome. Her small hand rested on his strong chest muscles, and the sensation was simply delightful.
Suddenly, she felt a slight tightening around her waist, causing her to freeze for a moment as her gaze dropped. Upon seeing the black scales, she couldn't help but scream, "Ah! A snake!"
Mo Li chuckled and covered her mouth with his hand, his long legs positioned beneath him. "What are we going to do if you're so afraid of snakes? You won't be able to handle seeing my true form at all."
With tears welling in her eyes, Yun Zhi Yue nodded and removed Mo Li's hand. "I'm really scared; please don't show your true form in front of me."
Mo Li narrowed his eyes slightly; he feared he couldn't agree to that request. He picked her up and carried her out of the courtyard, intending to help her familiarize herself with the surroundings.
"I'll be out hunting during the day and won't be home for long stretches of time," he explained. "You can come out and explore a bit, but don't stray too far from the Serpent Clan's territory."
