"Chen Huan'er," a voice called out, and everyone turned to see her hiding behind Wu Qinghong. Chen Huan'er's face flushed bright red.
Lin Han looked at Chen Huan'er in surprise, and Wu Qinghong couldn't help but smile. "Come on, let's go. My treat! We should eat something and then tidy ourselves up. As students of the Military Academy, we can't be looking all dirty."
Chen Huan'er quickly nodded. It was fine to be a bit messy, but she wanted to maintain her image when they returned to reality.
As time passed, dusk approached. Outside the Silent Mountains' Teleportation Array, the crowd had dispersed, leaving the area feeling somewhat empty. The Teleportation Array shimmered with distortion as two figures emerged, supporting each other.
"We did it!" Xue Wushuang exclaimed, looking at the dark bracelet on his wrist that had dimmed. He felt a surge of energy coursing through him, dispelling the fatigue that had weighed him down. Habitually, he summoned the Holy Light Grass, its leaves radiating a healing light as he and Zhou Qingqing leaned against each other for support.
Zhou Qingqing and Xue Wushuang savored this moment of accomplishment that belonged solely to them when suddenly a voice interrupted their reverie.
"Fat Cat, when did you two get so close?"
Upon hearing the voice, Xue Wushuang hadn't even had time to react before Zhou Qingqing's cheeks flushed crimson. She abruptly stood up.
Not paying attention, Xue Wushuang stumbled and fell to the ground. Lying there, he caught sight of Lin Han's amused expression and perked up.
"Lin! When did you guys arrive?"
In contrast to Xue Wushuang's excitement, Zhou Qingqing appeared somewhat flustered. The lingering blush on her face deepened as she noticed Chen Huan'er giggling at her.
"Chen Huan'er, why didn't you say anything earlier? You scared me to death!" Zhou Qingqing exclaimed, rarely showing such a girlish side.
Chen Huan'er grinned widely and replied cheerfully, "I didn't want to ruin Sister Qingqing's moment!"
"What nonsense are you talking about? Who's close with him?" Zhou Qingqing became increasingly embarrassed. Despite being a college student who prided herself on not liking boys, she still exhibited the youthful awkwardness typical of her age.
Lin Han leaned closer to Xue Wushuang's ear. "You did well, huh? You got it done?"
Xue Wushuang scratched his head awkwardly. "Hey, Lin, don’t say that. Nothing happened between us."
"Let’s just leave it at that," Lin Han replied lazily, choosing to let time settle the matter.
At that moment, Wu Qinghong walked over, observing the gleaming bracelets on their wrists and nodding slowly. "Congratulations, you two. Your training is complete. Starting tomorrow, I won’t interfere too much with you. I’ll only offer help when necessary; the rest of the time, I want you to learn and train on your own."
"Oh, right! I almost forgot to mention," he continued, "we have a new student joining our class. You should go and get to know him. I plan to have him join your squad."
"What?" The group was still reveling in their success from the assessment when this sudden news caught them off guard.
Lin Han frowned while Wu Qinghong continued speaking. "You all should know that the Star Dragon Empire holds an imperial competition every three years."
"Indeed," he added, "the Star Dragon Festival is a tradition of the empire. It’s said that my father participated in the last competition and secured third place."
When Chen Huan'er mentioned this, her eyes sparkled with excitement. "The imperial competition selects candidates for battle teams representing the empire. The first and second place teams will collaborate with other major empires' top teams and reserve teams."
Wu Qinghong explained further, "For an actual competition between empires, each team must consist of seven members to register."
