Old Fox was known for his keen sense of information, and he felt a twinge of fear; his instincts told him that staying on Dafeng Mountain was not safe.
"The enemy should not be underestimated," Tiger King said in a low voice. "Old Fox, you are responsible for going out to gather intelligence. See if any powerful figures are heading this way."
Old Fox's eyes brightened, and he quickly stood up. Not having to stay in the mountain was truly a relief.
Tiger King waved his hand to dismiss them, feeling somewhat restless. Who could it be? Were they human or demon? He couldn't stop speculating, never having imagined such a formidable presence.
The situation on Dafeng Mountain immediately raised alarms at Qingshan Mansion; no one knew what Tiger King was planning this time. Qin Feng couldn't help but think that even before he had arrived at Qingshan Mansion, things had already become tense because of him.
The Ox Cart swayed as it approached Dafeng Mountain. As they got closer to Qingshan Mansion, the number of pedestrians on the road increased.
After traveling for a while, Qin Feng realized that the situation in Dali was worse than he had anticipated; he frequently saw white bones along the roadside. They even encountered bandits—ragged and emaciated, they attempted to rob them.
Qin Feng couldn't be bothered to fight back; he simply snapped a tree branch casually, and those bandits fled in fear. Even as they neared Qingshan Mansion, the people they saw were refugees, numbly trudging forward with children in tow.
Ning Caichen looked at these people and sighed. "The demons are wreaking havoc; many villages have been destroyed, and only the county town is somewhat better off."
Qin Feng replied lightly, "Perhaps it won't be safe in the county town for long."
"How can that be? The County Magistrate has an Official Seal that can protect the entire county town," Ning Caichen said, puzzled.
Qin Feng did not explain further. Even transformed demons could not be held back without Zhen Mo Si's suppression; those demons would eventually turn their attention to the county town.
Dafeng Mountain was indeed magnificent, covered in maple trees. It was said that there was a temple atop Dafeng Mountain, and once they settled down, they could go take a look.
Ning Caichen's eyes lit up as he pointed ahead excitedly.
Qin Feng also looked up and saw a grand mountain before them; the maple leaves were beginning to turn slightly red. At first glance, it appeared like a great red mountain.
"Alright, let's head into the city first, rest for a day, and then we can climb the mountain," Qin Feng said with a smile.
"Really? Brother, that's wonderful!" Qin Wan'er exclaimed happily as she lifted the curtain of the cart to gaze at Dafeng Mountain.
She had never seen such a scene before, her eyes filled with longing. Qin Feng spoke this way only after noticing the look in her eyes.
Ning Caichen nodded repeatedly, "Brother Qin, then it's settled."
The ox cart rolled on from the foot of Dafeng Mountain, showing no signs of stopping. Qin Feng had no intention of leaving to deal with the Tiger King just yet; he cast a meaningful glance towards several directions in the forest where a few foxes were watching the official road.
These were the spies sent by the Old Fox. They glanced at the ox cart but quickly diverted their gaze, seemingly realizing that they were merely books.
Qin Feng would not act rashly and began to read his book instead.
As the ox cart approached the city gate, Qin Feng noticed that the security was quite strict, which surprised him. With his status as a scholar, entry was smooth, and he found a larger inn to stay in.
Ning Caichen didn't have much silver, so Qin Feng booked him a nice room; after all, he was a talented individual who might achieve great things one day.
Although the ox cart was well-equipped, it could not compare to the comfort of a bed. As soon as Qin Wan'er entered the room, she fell asleep immediately.
Qin Feng looked at her and frowned slightly. Although her health had improved considerably since he arrived, she still seemed somewhat fragile.
