Chen Rui and Erin stealthily entered the factory, greeted by a cold steel structure surrounded by containers of various sizes. The air was thick with the scent of chemicals, heightening their alertness. They moved cautiously, the only sound being their careful footsteps.
According to the intel, the chemical weapons should be located in the basement. Erin whispered, scanning the exits for any sign of enemies.
Chen Rui nodded, gripping his dagger tightly. They not only needed to find these weapons but also had to destroy them to prevent Old Hand from using them for further suppression.
The two descended a narrow iron ladder into the basement. It was far more complex than they had anticipated, with a maze of intersecting corridors. The walls were covered in thick metal plates, and a tight surveillance system was installed inside. Old Hand clearly recognized the importance of this batch of weapons and had secured them in such a fortified environment.
There’s a surveillance camera ahead; we need to find the control room to shut down the system first, Chen Rui quietly reminded her, pointing towards a distant flickering red light.
They evaded the cameras, using corners for cover as they advanced. Soon, they located the control room and successfully incapacitated the guard, shutting down the surveillance system and cutting off all external visibility into the basement.
With the surveillance system disabled, we have more time but must act quickly, Erin said.
They continued deeper into the basement and finally found their target in a sealed storage room. Inside, rows of silver metal glass vessels were neatly arranged on the floor, each marked with dangerous chemicals symbols that sent chills down their spines.
These are it. Chen Rui observed and confirmed that these were indeed the chemical weapons Old Hand had prepared for suppression actions.
A cold glint appeared in Erin's eyes as she took out her toolbox and retrieved a small bomb, preparing to destroy all the glass vessels. Just as they set up the explosives, footsteps echoed nearby, followed by several fully armed members of Old Hand bursting through the door, quickly surrounding them.
They’re fast! Chen Rui scoffed, swiftly drawing his dagger in preparation for battle.
The leader of the enemies was a cold-faced man, one of Old Hand's trusted confidants. He fixed his gaze on Chen Rui and sneered, "Chen Rui, Erin, what an honor. But do you really think a few of you can stop Old's plans?"
Chen Rui retorted disdainfully, "Is it with these chemical weapons? You think you can threaten innocent people with such things?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the leader's eyes widened in anger as he sneered back, "You brought this upon yourselves; dare to challenge Old and don’t expect to leave alive!"
A fierce battle erupted immediately. Erin quickly finished setting up the bomb while she and Chen Rui took cover in a corner of the cramped storage room, using their surroundings to counterattack against their foes. They worked seamlessly together, fending off several attackers; however, their numbers were overwhelming and gradually closing in.
Just as they found themselves at an impasse, a voice crackled through their earpieces: "Chen Rui, Erin, reinforcements have arrived outside. We’re breaching the factory and will reach you in minutes."
A determined smile spread across Chen Rui's face as he whispered to Erin: "Hold on; just wait a few more minutes!"
They continued to fight fiercely against their relentless enemies who pressed on with heavy firepower, clearly intent on trapping them there.
Minutes later, gunfire erupted from outside as reinforcements broke through the factory’s defenses. The Alliance Elite Squad stormed into battle against Old Hand’s forces, buying Chen Rui and Erin precious time to retreat.
We need to get out! The bomb is set to explode in three minutes! Erin reminded him urgently.
Chen Rui nodded; they quickly evacuated from the storage room. As they navigated through the corridors, gunfire intensified within the factory. Their reinforcements cleared obstacles along their path until they finally reached an exit where they were met by Zhao Yunshan.
Hurry! It could explode at any moment! Zhao Yunshan urged them to move quickly. Minutes later, they burst out of the factory into safety.
Just after they escaped, a deafening explosion echoed behind them. The chemical weapons within the factory were completely destroyed; flames shot into the sky, painting half of it red.
The Anti-Special Zone Alliance had completed the first phase of the Dawn Project, and the aging weapons were destroyed. This not only thwarted his plans but also significantly weakened his deterrent power over his rule.
They knew that this battle had only just begun. He would not easily give up, and his fury was about to spark a new wave of frenzied retaliation.
