As they successfully hacked into the system and began clearing their path, Erin suddenly noticed a figure appear on the surveillance screen. It was Black Hawk, standing in the fortress command center, coldly watching the screen, as if he had already anticipated their movements.
"Black Hawk has spotted us!" Erin whispered in alarm, her fingers rapidly tapping the keyboard in an attempt to block Black Hawk's view.
However, Black Hawk revealed a sly smile, as if to say: Welcome to my domain.
With Black Hawk's command, alarms blared throughout the fortress. All exits were instantly sealed, and armed soldiers flooded the corridors. Chen Rui realized they had been compromised and had no choice but to issue an immediate retreat order.
"Retreat! We are surrounded!" Chen Rui shouted, leading his team to quickly search for an escape route.
A fierce battle erupted in the narrow underground passage. Soldiers from the Shadow Alliance surged forward like a tidal wave, and Chen Rui and his team engaged in a desperate fight against the enemy. Bullets whizzed past their ears, echoing in the confined space with deafening intensity. Despite Squad's rigorous training, the enemy vastly outnumbered them, and they gradually found themselves in a dire struggle.
At that moment, Erin suddenly spotted a secret passage at the end of the corridor, seemingly a backup exit for the fortress. She quickly informed Chen Rui and directed Squad toward the escape route. However, soldiers from the Shadow Alliance relentlessly pursued them, nearly blocking their way out.
Chen Rui ordered Zhao Yunshan to lead a team to cover the others' escape. Zhao Yunshan and several teammates stayed behind to hold their ground at the narrow passageway, fending off enemy attacks. They suppressed the enemy with gunfire, buying precious time.
Erin led her teammates toward the exit, but just as they were about to reach it, Black Hawk's figure reappeared before them. His expression was grim as he stood at the passage exit with weapon in hand.
"Did you really think you could escape from here?" Black Hawk sneered, his tone dripping with disdain.
Chen Rui stood firm at the front, unyielding as he faced Black Hawk. He knew that defeating Black Hawk was their only chance of survival. The atmosphere between them became tense, thick with murderous intent.
"Black Hawk, today is your last day," Chen Rui said coldly, determination gleaming in his eyes.
Black Hawk scoffed dismissively: "Last day? I’d like to see whose end comes first."
Before he finished speaking, both men opened fire simultaneously; bullets zipped through the narrow corridor as flames and smoke filled the space. Chen Rui used the terrain to his advantage, skillfully dodging Black Hawk's attacks while looking for opportunities to counterattack.
The battle was exceptionally fierce; neither side seemed to gain an upper hand. However, just as they reached a stalemate, Zhao Yunshan and Erin successfully flanked from another side, cornering Black Hawk. Realizing his situation was dire, Black Hawk gritted his teeth and glared at the alliance members before him, a hint of madness flickering in his eyes.
"Even if you capture me, you cannot stop the Dark Tide Plan from being initiated!" Black Hawk roared before throwing down a flashbang. Taking advantage of the blinding light as cover, he swiftly vanished into the shadows of the corridor.
When the light returned to normalcy, Black Hawk had disappeared without a trace. Although they had failed once again to capture him, Chen Rui did not feel disheartened; this operation had allowed them to delve deeper into Doomsday Bastion and acquire a wealth of crucial intelligence.
On their way back to Special Zone, Chen Rui and his team analyzed their gains and losses from this mission. They realized that Black Hawk was not just a cunning enemy but also a madman ready to bring everything down with him at any moment. The truth behind Dark Tide Plan was gradually coming into focus.
