Chen Rui deeply etched everything he observed into his memory before quietly exiting the area. He knew that the crisis they faced was far beyond their imagination. The enemy's influence had not only infiltrated every corner of the Special Zone, but even some high-ranking officials were involved, becoming accomplices of the Shadow Alliance. What was even more shocking was that the conspiracy these individuals were plotting was clearly not just simple sabotage or intelligence leaks; they aimed to completely seize control of the Special Zone.
After Chen Rui managed to extricate himself, he quickly found Erin. She was waiting at their previously agreed-upon location, and upon seeing Chen Rui's grave expression, she realized that the situation was dire.
"It's worse than we anticipated," Chen Rui said in a low voice, relaying everything he had just heard and analyzed to Erin. Her face darkened in response.
"It seems we need more than just action; we need to find more concrete evidence to expose their true nature," Erin said. "But the problem is, they are using the resources of the Special Zone to ensure that every step they take remains concealed. This makes it nearly impossible for us to act."
Chen Rui silently nodded. At this moment, they were undoubtedly facing a massive undercurrent. The enemy operated in the shadows, and every move they made had to be cautious; otherwise, they would be swallowed by that undercurrent.
"If we want to unmask these high-ranking officials, we must force them to reveal their flaws," Chen Rui pondered for a moment and continued, "Perhaps we can fabricate some false intelligence to lure them into contradictions."
Erin's eyes lit up as she nodded in agreement. "Exactly! We can utilize the Special Zone's defense system to create a fake internal alert, manufacturing a new crisis that forces these individuals to act. If they are indeed collaborating with the Shadow Alliance, there will surely be a reaction."
After discussing their plan, the two immediately sprang into action. Using some special permissions, they designed a fabricated emergency alert indicating that a hidden armed force had been discovered within the Special Zone, potentially linked to external hostile forces and planning an attack. This information was quietly embedded into the Special Zone's defense network, waiting for an internal response.
As expected, when the alert was issued, the reactions among the high-ranking officials of the Special Zone varied widely. Many leaders immediately convened emergency meetings to discuss countermeasures. However, Chen Rui and Erin had already set their sights on specific suspects, observing their every move. Sure enough, several of them soon began secretly contacting external parties and relaying the fabricated intelligence to the Shadow Alliance. Chen Rui calmly observed from the side, feeling secretly pleased that their plan was proceeding smoothly.
However, the enemy's response exceeded their expectations. The Shadow Alliance quickly mobilized a squad that infiltrated the Special Zone within a short time frame, seemingly looking for more breakthroughs amid the fabricated crisis.
"It seems we've drawn them out," Erin sneered. "But their movements are faster than we anticipated; this time they seem prepared to take complete control of the situation."
"Yes, this also proves that they have greater ambitions regarding the Special Zone," Chen Rui said as he gazed at the defense screens of the Special Zone, his mood growing increasingly heavy.
With the Shadow Alliance's squad infiltrating the Special Zone, Chen Rui and Erin decided to take action and seize this opportunity to gather more evidence. They disguised themselves as ordinary staff members of the Special Zone and blended into the area where the enemy was operating. After several narrow escapes from patrols, they finally approached the Shadow Alliance's squad and discovered that their target was none other than the command center of the Special Zone.
"They intend to directly cut off control of the command center," Erin whispered in shock. "If they succeed, it would paralyze the entire defense system of the Special Zone."
"We can't let them succeed," Chen Rui said in a low voice, deciding to immediately thwart the Shadow Alliance's squad's actions. However, there were many enemies with superior equipment; forcing an attack could easily alert them.
Just then, Chen Rui suddenly thought of a plan. He quickly sent a discreet signal to a reliable senior officer within the Special Zone requesting support. Afterward, he and Erin stealthily approached members of the Shadow Alliance, looking for an opportunity.
In the corridor leading to the command center, members of the Shadow Alliance's squad advanced rapidly, systematically disabling security systems along their path. Chen Rui and Erin hid nearby, observing their actions while waiting for an opportune moment. However, just as the squad was about to reach the last line of defense at the command center, reinforcements finally arrived—a team composed of elite soldiers from within the Special Zone suddenly appeared and surrounded the Shadow Alliance's squad.
The enemy was caught off guard by this sudden attack; although they quickly retaliated, they were unprepared and at a disadvantage. Seeing this, Chen Rui and Erin swiftly launched an attack from the side alongside their reinforcements against their foes.
After intense gunfire ensued, the Shadow Alliance's squad was ultimately dismantled; several members were captured while others were all eliminated. Chen Rui and Erin immediately approached those captured enemies for searches and indeed found one with a secret communication device on him. This device contained a wealth of intelligence about internal matters within the Special Zone as well as several encrypted messages sent out.
These messages were enough to expose that commander's collusion with others. Holding tightly onto the communication device, Erin said with relief: "We finally have concrete evidence."
However, just as they prepared to bring these messages back to Security Committee within the Special Zone, suddenly there was a low beep from the communication device followed by an emergency message on its screen indicating self-destruction with a countdown timer.
"Oh no! They've set up a self-destruct program!" Erin exclaimed in alarm.
Chen Rui quickly took over handling of the communication device with his laptop in an attempt to crack through its self-destruction system set by their enemies. However, time was running short; Erin anxiously watched as seconds ticked down on screen while it became evident that their enemy’s device had formidable protective measures making Chen Rui’s progress painfully slow.
Finally, at the moment when the countdown was about to end, Chen Rui successfully unlocked the communication device and extracted all the data. Both of them let out a long sigh of relief, having achieved a significant victory in this battle.
"We have obtained decisive evidence," Chen Rui said, his gaze firm. "Next, we will expose the true faces of these traitors to the public."
