The air in the basement was stifling, making it hard to breathe. Chen Rui and You Lang faced each other, their murderous intent sharp as blades. The members of the Special Operations Team were tense, guns aimed and ready to fire at any moment. Yet, You Lang appeared remarkably calm, as if everything was under his control.
Chen Rui slowly stepped forward, his voice cold. "You Lang, give it up. You have no way out."
You Lang revealed a strange smile and slowly raised his hands, as if surrendering. But as his hands lifted, the lights in the basement flickered violently, the temperature in the room plummeted, and a peculiar symbol appeared on the walls, as if some forbidden power was being awakened.
"It seems you still don't understand the true secret of Heijing," You Lang whispered, his voice tinged with a bizarre excitement.
Chen Rui frowned slightly, quickly assessing the situation. Just then, Lin Xi's voice crackled through the earpiece: "Chen Rui, be careful! I've discovered an urgent message—the core facility of Heijing is not just a simple Experimental Base; it hides some kind of heart device. It seems to be Heijing's Energy Core and is the pivot of the entire Special Zone."
"A heart device?" Chen Rui repeated this unfamiliar term, feeling a sense of unease creeping in.
You Lang smiled at Chen Rui as if he could read his confusion. "That's right. You call it Heijing, but its true name is the heart. It is not just an Energy Core; it is the ultimate weapon I designed for the Special Zone. If I wish, everything here can be reduced to ruins in an instant."
As soon as You Lang finished speaking, a section of the wall in the basement suddenly cracked open, revealing a complex control console. At its center was a pulsating red heart that seemed almost alive. This heart was surrounded by countless cables, its flickering red light illuminating everyone's faces with ominous foreboding.
Chen Rui's eyes widened in disbelief at the sight before him. "You installed such a device within Heijing? Have you lost your mind?"
You Lang chuckled lightly. "Lost my mind? Perhaps. But sometimes radical measures are necessary for the rebirth of the Special Zone." He slowly raised his hand to point at a red button on the console. "If I press this button, the heart will initiate its self-destruct sequence. The entire Heijing and Special Zone will be obliterated in an explosion, and you will be buried here with me."
The members of the Special Operations Team immediately tensed up; every gun was trained on You Lang, but no one dared to act rashly. Chen Rui took a deep breath and said solemnly, "You Lang, don't be impulsive. This won't benefit you either."
You Lang smiled faintly. "Benefit? My benefit is watching your helplessness—seeing this Special Zone turn to ashes in flames."
At that moment of deadlock between them, Lin Xi's urgent voice came through again: "Chen Rui! We must stop that heart device from activating! According to my data analysis, once activated, it will release a powerful energy wave capable of destroying the entire underground base and even triggering severe earthquakes on the surface!"
Realizing the urgency of the situation, Chen Rui knew they had to act quickly. He subtly signaled to one team member who understood and began to move stealthily towards You Lang to stop him. However, You Lang seemed to sense their intentions and suddenly shouted: "No one can stop me!"
Just as You Lang was about to press the button, Chen Rui decisively acted and shot at You Lang's arm. You Lang's hand trembled violently; he nearly pressed the button but managed to suppress the intense pain while a mad smile spread across his face.
"Chen Rui, you are too naive," You Lang said coldly. "Do you really think this can stop me?"
At that moment, the pulsating heart on the console began flashing rapidly; alarms blared once more. A smile crept across You Lang's lips as he whispered: "It's too late; the self-destruct sequence of the heart has already been initiated. You will witness the destruction of this land."
Chen Rui's heart sank as he immediately issued orders through his earpiece: "Everyone retreat immediately! Lin Xi, find a way to stop the heart's self-destruction!"
Lin Xi hurriedly attempted to hack into the system remotely but found that alarms were sounding faster and faster while temperatures within Heijing soared rapidly; blast doors began closing automatically around them. Chen Rui led his team swiftly towards an exit but found every route blocked off—Heijing had become a death trap.
"Chen Rui!" Lin Xi's voice was laced with despair. "I've tried various methods to hack in, but You Lang has locked down the system! The only way is to manually shut down the core energy source of the heart!"
Without hesitation, Chen Rui turned back with his team towards the control console, heading straight for the core of the heart device. As they approached, they felt an intense heat radiating from it; an unusual current filled the air as if even the ground trembled slightly.
You Lang lay on the ground with a twisted smile on his face, eyes filled with madness. He stared at Chen Rui with eerie excitement in his tone: "Come on, Chen Rui! If you want to stop me, come try! But remember—this is my Heijing; it's a tomb I've meticulously prepared for you."
Taking a deep breath, Chen Rui led his squad into the central control area of the heart device. Lin Xi quickly analyzed how to operate it but spoke with grave concern: "Chen Rui! You must enter the core chamber and directly cut off its energy source! But inside that chamber, temperatures and radiation are extremely high—you only have a few minutes!"
Without any extra time to hesitate, Chen Rui decided to enter the Core Area himself. He nodded to his team members, his expression resolute as he stepped into the heart of the device.
