The Giant Abyss Warrior completely disregarded the barrage of firepower, advancing slowly while firing its cannons, each step causing the ground to tremble. Its metallic tail swept across both sides of the tunnel, further demolishing the already narrow passage, raising clouds of dust and filling the air with a burnt odor.
Now! Chen Rui pulled the trigger.

With a loud explosion, the bullet struck precisely at the connection point of the pipe. Accompanied by a piercing sound of metal fracturing, gas within the pipe leaked out instantly, reacting violently with the air and resulting in a fierce explosion. Flames engulfed the tunnel in an instant, and the Giant Abyss Warrior was hit by the shockwave from the blast, its massive body swaying as it fell.
Run! Don’t stop! Lin Xi grabbed the nearest team member and led Squad swiftly toward the other end of the tunnel.
Although the Giant Abyss Warrior was temporarily down, its body still trembled slightly, clearly not having lost all mobility. Meanwhile, the fire from the explosion spread rapidly, making the air in the tunnel even hotter and threatening to trigger further collapses at any moment.
After a few minutes, Squad finally burst out of the tunnel into a relatively open space. It appeared to be an abandoned underground warehouse, filled with broken equipment and scattered metal boxes. Chen Rui quickly checked the map to confirm their exit location.
The exit is just ahead! As long as we get through this warehouse, we can reach the surface, he said.
Great. Lin Xi wiped the sweat from his forehead but then his expression darkened. Wait, do you hear that?
The surroundings suddenly fell eerily silent, as if all sounds had been absorbed by some unseen force. Then, a low and strange sound emerged from the shadows of the warehouse, resembling some kind of mechanical device in operation.
What is that? Wang Chen tightened his grip on Wu Lan and scanned their surroundings warily.
Before Chen Rui could respond, a shadow darted out swiftly from deep within the warehouse. It was a smaller yet exceptionally agile Abyss Warrior, covered in reflective black armor, moving so fast it was nearly impossible to see.
Watch out! New enemy! Lin Xi shouted as he opened fire in an attempt to suppress it; however, their bullets were completely deflected by its armor.
This guy is tougher than before! Wang Chen exclaimed as he stepped back; the Abyss Warrior closed in instantly, knocking one team member to the ground with clean efficiency and no wasted movements.
Chen Rui quickly adjusted his position to cover their retreat while shouting to Lin Xi: Try high-frequency Wu Lan! This might work against it!
Lin Xi immediately switched Wu Lan's mode, adjusting his Laser Rifle to high-frequency pulse mode and aimed at the enemy before pulling the trigger. A high-energy pulse beam shot out, striking directly at the Abyss Warrior's head. The creature's movements suddenly halted as it emitted a sharp electronic screech and began to tremble violently.
It works! Lin Xi shouted. Focus fire on its head and joints!
Under Squad's combined firepower, this Abyss Warrior was finally brought down; its armor shattered, exposing its internal mechanical structure which emitted a pungent burnt smell.
How is everyone? Chen Rui checked on his teammates' conditions. Although some had minor injuries, no one was seriously hurt.
These monsters are getting harder to deal with, Lin Xi panted. If we had been just a moment slower... it would have been unimaginable.
Chen Rui nodded solemnly: Their technological evolution is happening faster than we anticipated. The data we collected must be sent immediately to Command Center for analysis by Research Department.
Let’s go; we’ll talk about this later once we get out of here. Lin Xi glanced at the large door on the other end of the warehouse—the exit was right there. We just need to hold on a little longer.
After a challenging breakout, Squad finally reached their exit point. A rush of fresh air greeted them, signaling that they had successfully escaped from Shadow City’s Core Area.
As they stepped out of the underground facility, an armed Rising Machine swiftly descended nearby. Director Zhao personally jumped out of the cabin and quickly approached Chen Rui and the others. "Well done. Have you brought back the experimental data?"
Chen Rui handed over the data to Director Zhao, his expression serious. "The data is here. The enemy's threat is more severe than we imagined. Their Abyss Warriors have exceeded conventional combat parameters; this is a complete technological war."
Director Zhao nodded, determination evident in his gaze. "You all take a break; we'll handle the rest. The experiments on Dark Current must be completely terminated!"
The Rising Machine quickly ascended, carrying the exhausted squad back to base. As Chen Rui gazed at the dawn gradually rising on the distant horizon, he felt no sense of relief. He knew this was just the beginning of the war; the true crisis was far from over.
