The Abyss Warrior paused in the corridor, seemingly sensing its surroundings. Its movements were erratic, as if it were struggling against some invisible force. Finally, it turned and disappeared down another hallway.
"Guess that's a stroke of luck?" Zhou Zheng wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.
"Maybe," Chen Rui replied coldly. "But it also means the situation is more complicated than we anticipated. Let's keep moving; we can't waste any time."
They quickly located the data storage room and connected to the Server by hacking into the device. Zhou Zheng operated the equipment swiftly, transferring a large amount of experimental records and data to a portable hard drive.
"This data contains extensive experimental records and seems to include code related to core technologies," Zhou Zheng said as he reviewed the information. "If we bring this back to the Research Department, we should be able to decipher the operational mechanisms of the Abyss Warrior."
"Hurry up! We can't stay here too long," Lin Xi warned, keeping a vigilant eye on the door.
Just as the transfer was nearing completion, an ear-piercing alarm suddenly blared throughout the base. Red warning lights flashed, and chaos erupted in the space.
"We're in trouble! The dark forces have found us!" Zhou Zheng shouted.
At that moment, heavy footsteps echoed from a distance, accompanied by the clanking of machinery growing ever closer. Chen Rui quickly yanked out the hard drive and yelled, "Fall back! Prepare for battle!"
The Abyss Warrior reappeared before them, this time in greater numbers—at least six of them spread out in various directions along the corridor, blocking their escape route.
"We're surrounded!" Lin Xi shouted.
"Fire! Stop their movements!" Chen Rui commanded decisively, throwing an Electromagnetic Pulse Grenade towards the nearest enemy.
As the grenade exploded, blue arcs of electricity scattered across the area, freezing several Abyss Warriors in place. Just then, a larger mechanical figure emerged from the shadows. Its armor was thicker than that of a standard Abyss Warrior, and its arms were equipped with energy cannon-like weapons—clearly a more advanced model.
"What on earth is that?!" Zhou Zheng exclaimed, his eyes wide with shock.
"Don't worry about that! Break through its firepower net!" Chen Rui said coldly. "Lin Xi, cover us! Zhou Zheng, stay close to me!"
Lin Xi quickly adjusted her position, using precise shots to suppress the enemies.
A fierce battle erupted in the narrow corridor. Chen Rui led Zhou Zheng through a path of destruction as they attempted to find a new exit. The enemy's firepower was relentless; every step felt like an uphill struggle.
"Hurry up! I can't hold them off much longer!" Lin Xi's voice crackled through the communicator.
"Hang in there! We're almost there!" Chen Rui glanced back but saw that the Giant Abyss Warrior had locked onto Lin Xi's position and was charging its energy cannon.
"Lin Xi! Fall back!" Chen Rui shouted.
Before he could finish his sentence, a searing beam of energy shot forth, obliterating everything in its path and leaving the corridor in ruins.
