Above the South Pacific, over the Mariana Trench, a stealth transport aircraft quietly approached its target area. Lin Xi and her team were fully armed, ready to embark on an unprecedented deep-sea raid mission.
The atmosphere inside the cabin was tense; everyone understood the risks involved in this operation. The enemy's Deep Sea Base was not only heavily fortified but also likely concealed unpredictable dangers.
The mission was divided into two phases. Lin Xi stood in the center of the cabin, her gaze sweeping over her team. The first step was to destroy the enemy's Shielding Device to clear the way for subsequent reconnaissance and communication; the second step was to locate the core of the Abyss Network and completely destroy it.
Chen Rui added, "According to our intelligence, the Shielding Device is located approximately meters outside the base and consists of multiple Shadow Stone Nodes. Once these nodes are destroyed, the shielding range will be significantly weakened."
"Understood!" The team responded in unison.
After reaching the designated position, the aircraft's door slowly opened, and a cold sea breeze rushed in. One by one, the team members jumped into the deep sea, quickly enveloped by their diving gear as they descended rapidly.
Lin Xi and her team continued their descent, with the surrounding light growing dimmer until they were completely engulfed by deep blue water. Chen Rui's voice came through their headsets: "We are still meters away from the target area. Be cautious of your surroundings; there may be enemy patrol devices."
In front of them, a few red lights flickered in the water. Lin Xi raised her hand to signal her team to stop and then used gestures to issue commands: "Spread out and proceed in small groups."
Zhou Zheng and another team member approached the red lights first, discovering that they were automated underwater drones. These drones were equipped with miniature sonar systems that would immediately sound an alarm upon detecting a target.
"Leader Lin, what should we do?" Zhou Zheng whispered.
"Prioritize destruction; leave no potential threats," Lin Xi ordered decisively.
Zhou Zheng quickly retrieved a specially designed electromagnetic interference device and carefully approached the drone, attaching it to the underside. Moments later, the flickering red light abruptly extinguished as it sank slowly to the ocean floor.
"Well done!" Lin Xi praised softly through her headset.
The team continued to advance and soon reached the perimeter area of the enemy's Shielding Device. Lin Xi checked the tactical display screen for information on enemy defenses and found at least six Shadow Stone Nodes nearby, each guarded by two or three armed enemies.
"The plan has changed," Lin Xi murmured. "The enemy's defenses are tighter than we anticipated; we can't charge in head-on. We'll split into three groups to conduct precise strikes on different nodes."
The team quickly divided into groups: Lin Xi led one group responsible for the left flank, Zhou Zheng took charge of the right flank, while Chen Rui provided technical support.
Lin Xi and her group stealthily approached the left flank node, hiding behind a cluster of rocks. She carefully observed the enemies near the node; they wore combat gear resembling diving suits and wielded high-powered sonic weapons specifically designed for deep-sea environments.
"Three targets; right side is weak on firepower. Prepare to engage," Lin Xi instructed through her headset.
With a whispered command, her team sprang into action. Two enemies didn’t even have time to react before being struck by Lin Xi's precise underwater explosives. The third enemy attempted to sound an alarm but was swiftly taken down by a teammate using a harpoon-like weapon.
"The left flank is clear," Lin Xi reported quietly.
On the other side, Zhou Zheng's group had also successfully destroyed their right flank Shadow Stone Node while Chen Rui remotely cut off power supply to the last two nodes.
As the Shadow Stone Nodes were destroyed, the previously encompassing shielding field began to dissipate. Chen Rui's excited voice came through their headsets: "The shielding is down! We can now maintain communication with the base!"
"Continue advancing; locate the core position of Abyss Network," Lin Xi commanded firmly.
As the team approached the core of the base, a strange wave emerged from the sea. Lin Xi stopped and quietly asked Chen Rui, "Are there any anomalies being detected?"
"There’s strong magnetic interference; it could be the base's active defense system," Chen Rui replied, his voice tense. "You need to get away from that area quickly."
But it was too late. Countless red lights suddenly illuminated around Lin Xi, and dozens of underwater drones surrounded them from all directions. These drones were completely different from the previous patrol devices; their shells flickered with an eerie blue glow, resembling some kind of experimental product.
"Prepare for battle!" Lin Xi commanded loudly, and the team quickly formed a defensive formation.
The drones unleashed a high-frequency sonic attack, and chaos erupted underwater. The team members skillfully evaded the strikes with their agile diving equipment while counterattacking. However, the drones moved with astonishing speed, and several attacks failed to hit their targets.
"Their movement patterns are too strange; it's as if they're being controlled by some kind of consciousness," Zhou Zheng gritted his teeth.
"Attack one of the drones!" Lin Xi calmly directed.
Under her leadership, the team focused their fire on one drone, finally managing to destroy it. Strangely, after the drone was taken down, the surrounding drones abruptly ceased their attacks, floating in the water as if they had lost power.
"What’s going on?" Zhou Zheng asked in surprise.
"These drones are controlled through a networked system," Chen Rui analyzed. "As long as we destroy the control core, they will cease to function."
"Good. Let’s keep going," Lin Xi ordered. "The control system is just ahead; let’s not waste any more time."
As they drew closer to their target, an uneasy feeling crept into Lin Xi's heart. It felt as though an invisible force was watching them in this deep sea, each step forward seemed to be guided by something unseen.
Eventually, they reached a dark expanse of seabed where they could see the full structure of the enemy's Deep Sea Base. It was a massive circular building covered in strange blue patterns, resembling a slumbering giant that exuded an unsettling sense of oppression.
"This is the core of the Abyss Network," Lin Xi whispered. "Get ready to move!"
Just as they prepared to enter the base, a familiar and cold voice came through their headsets:
"Captain Lin Xi, welcome."
Lin Xi shivered; that voice belonged to the shadowy figure that had once appeared in the Shadow Stone Node!
