After checking the last supply list, Lin Xi raised her head and said, "Everyone, remember, the priority of this mission is intelligence. If the situation goes awry, retreat immediately. Don't be reckless."
The group nodded in agreement, each person aware that this journey was likely to be fraught with danger.
The next morning, the squad boarded an armored transport vehicle and headed towards the northern wasteland. Under the power of the Shadowstone Core, the vehicle sped across the desolate terrain. The scenery outside gradually turned silent, with sparse vegetation replaced by black rocks and cracked earth.
"This place really feels like hell," Wang Ya remarked as he gazed out at the landscape. "Twenty years ago, this was an oasis; now it has become a wasteland."
"It's the aftereffects of the Shadow Stone," Chen Rui explained. "The energy released during that incident was enough to alter the landscape and ecology, leading to this area being completely sealed off."
"Sealed off?" Zhou Zheng scoffed. "Then why are there still factions operating nearby? I've heard that many smuggling and Shadow Stone hunting teams come here."
"Because of the residual energy from the Shadow Stone," Lin Xi clarified. "Although it's dangerous, the concentration of Shadow Stone here is higher than in other places, attracting those who seek adventure."
"I hope we don't run into those people," Zhou Zheng sighed. "Less trouble would be better."
Several hours later, the vehicle arrived at the area indicated on the Star Map. It was a valley resembling a ruin, surrounded by intense energy fluctuations, and a pungent burnt smell lingered in the air.
"This is our destination," Lin Xi said as she checked her map against a stone monument pointing to the center of the valley.
"The energy concentration here is too high," Chen Rui frowned. "Regular protective gear may not provide complete shielding."
"Portable energy barriers," Lin Xi commanded. "Stay away from those glowing crystals and try to stick to stable areas."
Once equipped, the team cautiously entered the valley. As they ventured deeper, the temperature rose steadily, and those flickering Azure Light Crystals seemed almost alive, subtly vibrating as if watching them.
"These things don't feel natural," Wang Ya whispered. "They seem like some form of living entity."
Lin Xi didn't respond; her intuition told her that Wang Ya's speculation might be correct.
Eventually, at the center of the valley, they discovered a peculiar zone. It resembled an altar structure made of massive stones, with an object floating in its center that resembled the shape of the previous monument.
"We found our target," Lin Xi murmured. "But why do I feel like this place is less of a relic and more like a trap?"
Chen Rui picked up on her concern, his expression grave. "The energy fluctuations here are too abnormal; it seems like a man-made barrier has been set up."
Before he could finish his sentence, a deep rumbling sound echoed around them. Countless Azure Light Crystals surged from underground, forming a massive ring that trapped them at its center.
"We're surrounded!" Zhou Zheng shouted as he raised his Wu Lan.
"Stay calm!" Lin Xi commanded coolly. "Everyone maintain formation and locate these things' energy cores!"
The blue light erupted once more as the battle officially began.
