The Azure Light Barrier completely trapped Lin Xi and Wang Ya, the brilliance of the Crystal growing ever more dazzling, radiating a chilling sense of oppression.
"It seems the traps in this area are more intelligent than the previous guardians," Wang Ya said coldly, her rifle ready. "Lin Xi, we need to think of a way out quickly!"
"This mechanism must rely on the energy of the Shadow Stone," Lin Xi calmly surveyed their surroundings. "If we can destroy the core that regulates the energy flow, this barrier will collapse."
As soon as she finished speaking, several translucent figures emerged from all directions. Their bodies were composed entirely of pure Shadow Stone energy, each step accompanied by a low humming sound, as if responding to some ancient summons.
"It's the Shadow Stone Guardian Bodies!" Wang Ya's eyes widened. "These things can move on their own?"
"Don't just stand there! They're targeting us!" Lin Xi quickly raised her rifle and fired.
The two found themselves in an unprecedented battle. The Shadow Stone Guardian Bodies were not like the previous Crystal monsters; they moved at incredible speeds and could temporarily become invisible through energy resonance.
"These things are tough!" Wang Ya shouted while dodging attacks. "Ordinary weapons can't penetrate them!"
"High-frequency disruptor!" Lin Xi swiftly adjusted her portable disruptor. "We can only buy time by weakening their Energy Field!"
A high-frequency pulse wave spread out, causing the movements of the Shadow Stone Guardian Bodies to slow down. But just a few seconds later, their bodies quickly regained their brilliance, showing signs of resistance to the disruption.
"This isn't working; the disruption time is too short!" Wang Ya gasped. "Lin Xi, we need to try something else."
Lin Xi's gaze fell on the central Shadowstone Core, and an idea struck her: "The movements of these Shadow Guardians seem to be related to the Energy Fluctuation of that core. If we can control the core, we can control them!"
"Control the core?" Wang Ya frowned. "That's impossible; it's protected by so many Shadow Guardians. We can't get close!"
"We have to try," Lin Xi said decisively. "You distract them while I approach the core!"
Wang Ya took a deep breath and charged leftward without hesitation, firing wildly at the Shadow Guardians. As blue light flickered, the Shadow Guardians were drawn to her attacks and rushed toward her.
Lin Xi seized the opportunity to circle behind the core, quickly retrieving a set of energy disruption modules and embedding them into the core's grooves.
"Hurry up, Lin Xi!" Wang Ya's voice came from afar; she was surrounded by several Shadow Guardians and was in a dire situation.
"I got it!" Lin Xi shouted as she pressed the activation switch on the disruption module.
With a low hum, the light on the surface of the core suddenly extinguished, and all the Shadow Guardians halted their movements as if they had lost their lives.
"We did it!" Wang Ya collapsed onto the ground, exhaling deeply. "Finally, these guys are quiet."
Lin Xi removed a shimmering blue-purple Shadowstone Fragment from the core and carefully stowed it in her backpack. "This is the second core fragment; we need to get back to the monument quickly."
Before reaching the monument, Chen Rui and Zhou Zhengjing had completed decoding the inscriptions on it.
"Lin Xi! You two finally made it back." Chen Rui looked at their disheveled appearance and realized they had gone through a fierce battle. "We just solved the riddle of the monument."
"What is the result?" Lin Xi asked.
Chen Rui pointed to a line of decoded text on the stone tablet: "Day and night, light and dark. This phrase actually hints at the order in which we need to input energy." The Energy Field of the Shadow Stone requires activating light first, followed by dark, to initiate the teleportation energy of the stone tablet.
"Teleportation energy?" Wang Ya was taken aback. "This stone tablet can teleport?"
"That's right," Chen Rui nodded. "It serves as an entrance to the Main Area, but we need two Energy Cores to be input simultaneously at a specific frequency to open it."
"Then let's not waste any time." Lin Xi took out two Shadowstone Fragments and handed them to Chen Rui and Zhou Zheng, instructing them to activate the stone tablet in order.
The two Shadowstone Fragments were embedded into the grooves of the stone tablet, which began to emit a low humming sound. Blue-purple light flowed from its surface, eventually converging into a swirling energy portal at its center.
"This is the entrance to the Main Area," Chen Rui said, his voice tinged with excitement. "But I must remind everyone that there may be no turning back once we enter."
"Having taken this step, there's no need for a return," Lin Xi replied coldly.
The team members adjusted their gear and stepped into the energy portal one by one. On the other side of the vortex, they were enveloped in dazzling light, as if transported to another world.
As the brilliance gradually faded, Lin Xi found herself standing in a vast underground space. The scene was beyond imagination: countless Shadow Stones floated in the air, emitting an eerie blue glow that formed a magnificent spectacle. At the center stood a massive structure made of Shadow Stone, resembling some ancient relic.
"This place..." Zhou Zheng murmured. "It’s like the origin of Shadow Stone."
"Or rather, the core of its power," Lin Xi whispered.
Just as the team prepared to explore further, a low rumble echoed from afar. Lin Xi immediately raised her weapon, alertly gazing toward the source of the sound.
"More enemies?" Wang Ya asked nervously.
"Not just enemies," Lin Xi's gaze deepened. "There are new mysteries awaiting us."
