The path of escape grew increasingly narrow as Lin Xi led the team through the dark underground labyrinth. Each step felt like crossing a chasm, and the rumbling of the altar behind them faded into the distance, yet it carried an indescribable sense of unease. 0

"Leader Lin, where will this road lead us?" Wang Ya's voice was heavy with fatigue and a hint of despair. 0

The exit might be above ground. Lin Xi looked up at the thinning layers of rock overhead, but they had to hurry. 0

Her gaze swept over her team members' faces, caked with dirt and sweat, and her heart sank. They had suffered significant losses along the way, having already lost several members, and those who remained were on the brink of exhaustion both physically and mentally. 0

"Leader Lin!" Chen Rui's voice suddenly broke her thoughts. He pointed to a depression not far ahead, where something seemed to be hidden. 0

The team halted and cautiously approached the area. 0

In the dim light, they saw an ancient mechanical device half-embedded in the rock wall, its surface marred by the passage of time. 0

"What is this?" Zhou Zheng stepped forward to investigate, brushing away a layer of dust from its surface. 0

At the center of the device was a circular dial engraved with intricate symbols and grooves, within which faint traces of a glowing liquid remained. 0

"This looks like some kind of switch," Chen Rui murmured. "Maybe it can control something." 0

"Let's give it a try," Lin Xi nodded but cautioned them to be careful. 0

Chen Rui expertly manipulated the device, his fingers gliding over the dial until he triggered a hidden mechanism. 0

With a whirring sound of gears turning, the ground began to tremble slightly, and a stone door gradually opened in the rock wall. 0

It's an exit! A glimmer of excitement flickered in Wang Ya's eyes. "We can leave!" 0

But Lin Xi did not relax easily. She stared at the dark passage revealed behind the stone door, sensing an unusual presence lurking there. 0

"Wait," Lin Xi raised her hand to halt everyone's movements. "Don't rush in. This place is not as simple as it seems." 0

As soon as she spoke, a deep rumbling sound emanated from beyond the stone door, as if some massive creature was slowly approaching. 0

"Leader Lin, did we disturb something?" Zhou Zheng's face turned pale, his grip tightening around his weapon. 0

"Perhaps," Lin Xi's gaze sharpened. "Everyone, get into combat mode! Prepare for anything!" 0

Seconds later, a colossal figure crawled out from the passageway. 0

It was an enormous alien creature covered in black scales, with a pair of crimson eyes that radiated cold malice. Its mouth opened to reveal a row of sharp fangs, and its low growl echoed like thunder. 0

"Open fire!" Lin Xi commanded, and the team immediately launched their attack. 0

Gunfire and explosions reverberated in the confined space as bullets and flames rained down on the monster. However, its layer of black scales seemed to possess extreme resistance; most attacks failed to inflict any significant damage. 0

"This guy's defense is too strong!" Zhou Zheng gritted his teeth and said, "Our Wu Lan can't break through its defenses!" 0

"Target the eyes and joints!" Lin Xi calmly directed. "Those are its weak points!" 0

However, the monster moved with incredible speed, its massive body agilely navigating the passageway, easily dodging several attacks. The team was forced to retreat step by step, and the situation was dire. 0

"Damn it! We need stronger firepower!" Chen Rui shouted angrily as he pulled out a high-energy grenade. "Get back! Let me see if this thing works!" 0

Lin Xi immediately ordered the team to fall back. Chen Rui accurately threw the grenade at the monster's head. A deafening explosion followed, and the monster let out a horrific scream, its enormous body swaying as if it had been injured. 0

"Effective!" Wang Ya exclaimed in surprise. "It got hit!" 0

But it wasn't dead yet. Lin Xi's gaze was icy. "Keep attacking! This might be our only chance!" 0

The team concentrated their firepower, launching a fierce assault on the monster's injured areas. The creature's movements gradually slowed down, but it still posed a threat. As it made one last attempt to charge at the team, Lin Xi detonated a specially made Explosive Device that blew up the rock overhead. 0

With a tremendous roar, tons of rock fell, instantly burying the monster beneath a pile of rubble. 0

"Is it over?" Zhou Zheng gasped for breath, collapsing onto the ground, his face weary. 0

"For now, yes." Lin Xi cast a vigilant glance at the buried area. "But we can't stay here long. The exit is just ahead; we must hurry." 0

As they reached the end of the passage, they finally emerged to the surface. 0

Fresh air filled their lungs, bringing a sense of relief to everyone. However, what greeted their eyes was a desolate wasteland, with an ominous dark red glow faintly floating in the distant sky. 0

"What is this place?" Wang Ya's voice was filled with confusion and fear. "Are we really safe?" 0

Lin Xi did not respond but turned her gaze toward the distant light. She knew that this nightmare was far from over. The secrets of the Forbidden Zone were more complex and dangerous than they had imagined, and that crystal ball might just be the key to uncovering the truth. 0

"Everyone stay alert," Lin Xi's voice was firm. "Our mission is not complete." 0

The team regrouped and continued onward into the unknown distance, while in the shadows ahead, more dangers seemed to awaken quietly. 0

To be continued... 0
