"Sweetheart, take a look and see what you want to eat?" Lu Jingzhi handed the menu to Sang Yu, both unaware that someone nearby was watching them intently.
"Lu Jingzhi?!" The voice belonged to Gao Ranran, who had once been engaged to Lu Jingzhi.
"Do you know this guy?" Zheng Yifan asked in surprise. Indeed, the two people were Zheng Yifan and Gao Ranran; one knew Sang Yu, while the other was familiar with Lu Jingzhi.
"Of course I know him! I was even engaged to him," Gao Ranran replied sarcastically. Her mother had intended for her to marry him, believing it would elevate their family's business prospects.
Unfortunately, after that one meeting, she had never seen Lu Jingzhi again. Every time she and her mother visited the Lu Family, Lu Jingzhi was absent. Whenever her mother hinted to Madam Lu about marrying Lu Jingzhi, that old woman seemed oblivious and never engaged in the conversation. It was only when Lu Jingzhi got engaged that they learned he had a girlfriend.
However, from what she knew, that woman didn't seem to come from a particularly good family; her father was just a teacher. How could someone like that be worthy of Lu Jingzhi? Only someone like her, a wealthy young lady, could match him and provide the support he needed to compete with his older brother for the family fortune.
"Lu Jingzhi: If I want to fight for the family fortune, how come I didn't know about it?"
That woman is his fiancée? She wasn't bad-looking at all. Even if Gao Ranran despised her, she had to admit that the woman was indeed quite attractive—perhaps even two points prettier than herself. Gao Ranran touched her recently altered face and thought about getting more work done.
"What a seductress! Hmph! It's that face that's lured Lu Jingzhi in; I just want to scratch it off," Gao Ranran's face twisted in jealousy.
"Lu Jingzhi: Where do you get off comparing yourself to my sweetheart? In my eyes, you don't even measure up to one of her toes."
"Well, that must be his fiancée," Zheng Yifan said with a pout, feeling weak. What bad luck! Just coming out for a meal and running into Sang Yu and her fiancé—wasn't that just pouring salt on her wounds?
Sang Yu: "I didn't know you had wounds."
Zheng Yifan: "I do! I do!"
"Do you know her?" Gao Ranran shifted her gaze from Sang Yu to Zheng Yifan.
"Not just know her; we’re quite familiar. We work in the same office; how could we not be?"
"Good friends?" Gao Ranran's eyes narrowed, curious about what Zheng Yifan was thinking.
"No! We're colleagues in the same office, but I don't interact with her much. Who would be friends with her?" Zheng Yifan chewed angrily on the beef in her mouth.
"What’s this guy’s background?" Zheng Yifan asked, intrigued.
"You don’t know?"
"I don’t." Zheng Yifan shook her head. "I only know his family seems to own a company and is quite wealthy." Although she didn't know Lu Jingzhi personally, she was aware of Lu Youzhe—they were from the same family. The Lu Youzhe family owned a company and was rich!
Gao Ranran sneered. "Rich? More than that! Lu Jingzhi is a tycoon in Yuncheng; he’s the heir of the Lu Group."
Zheng Yifan's eyes widened in shock. "The richest man? Oh my goodness!" No matter how she thought about it, she never imagined Lu Jingzhi would be so wealthy. Wasn't that surname Sang going to strike it rich now? Ugh, her heart hurt! She regretted giving up after hearing about their engagement; was it too late for her to make a move now?
"Your colleague is quite something, isn't she? She actually managed to win over Lu Shao. Do you have any idea how many wealthy young ladies dream of marrying into the Lu Family? And yet, here she is, a person with no background, snatching him away. What's even more surprising is that the Lu Family actually agreed to it. It shows just how deep your colleague's schemes run."
Gao Ranran thought that Sang Yu was someone of a very high caliber. With someone like her in the same office, weren't you worried she might sell you out?
Zheng Yifan remarked, "She just said that Sang Yu is quite cunning, look at how she has all those male teachers at school wrapped around her finger."
Sang Yu replied, "With all these schemes I have, how could I not know?"
