The heavy footsteps grew closer, each step feeling like a crushing blow to Kouya Toyo's heart.
His entire body had undergone Metallicization, a silver sheen flickering faintly in the dim light, resembling a beast poised to strike.
From the darkness, a massive figure slowly emerged.
It was a Giant Dog, or rather, it had once been one.
Its body was twisted and deformed, covered in grotesque metal implants, with eyes gleaming with a frenzied red light.
"This is... a B-Class War Dog?" Kouya Toyo felt his heart sink.
He had seen these modified monsters before; they were the killing machines of the Neon Kennel.
But this one was clearly more powerful and more deranged than any he had encountered previously.
"Designation 047," Shen Zhao Yi's voice echoed again, "your new toy."
The Giant Dog lunged forward suddenly, its speed astonishing.
Kouya Toyo sidestepped just in time, his Metallicization-enhanced arm blocking the Giant Dog's razor-sharp claws.
Sparks flew as metal scraped against metal, filling the air with the acrid scent of burnt metal.
"Its strength... is greater than that of the previous Wolf-Type Cyborg," Kouya Toyo gritted his teeth.
He could feel the Giant Dog's power intensifying with each attack, each strike carrying an aura of destruction.
"It seems I really have to fight for my life this time," Kouya Toyo thought bitterly.
He knew he had to end this quickly.
Otherwise, once his stamina ran out, death would be all that awaited him.
The Giant Dog lunged again, this time opening its massive maw to reveal sharp metallic fangs.
Kouya Toyo did not evade; instead, he charged towards the Giant Dog.
“Pain…” he whispered, “let me feel just how much you can hurt!”
His Ability activated.
Pain Transfer, the power bestowed upon him by Shen Zhao Yi.
It was his only hope.
The Giant Dog's movements suddenly faltered, a flicker of agony flashing in its eyes.
“Now's my chance!” Kouya Toyo seized the moment and landed a punch to the Giant Dog's head.
The Metallicization of its bones unleashed tremendous force, and the Giant Dog let out a howl before its massive body crashed to the ground.
“Is it over…” Kouya Toyo panted, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over him.
Suddenly, the fallen Giant Dog struggled back to its feet.
Its eyes glowed an even deeper crimson, and its body began to tremble violently.
“What’s happening?” Kouya Toyo’s heart sank in alarm.
“I forgot to mention,” Shen Zhao Yi's voice carried a hint of mockery, “Subject 047 has been implanted with the latest rage chip; pain will only drive it further into madness.”
Kouya Toyo's heart plummeted.
He had made a fatal mistake.
The Giant Dog howled at the sky, its voice filled with pain and anger.
Its body began to swell, the metallic implants emitting a harsh grinding sound.
“No…” Kouya Toyo felt a wave of despair wash over him.
He no longer had the strength to fight.
At that moment, a familiar voice echoed in his mind: “Kouya Toyo, don’t give up!”
It was Zhou Shenyong.
“Your Ability isn’t just Pain Transfer,” Zhou Shenyong’s voice was urgent, “it can also… absorb pain!”
“Absorb pain?” Kouya Toyo was taken aback.
“That’s right,” Zhou Shenyong explained, “Shen Zhao Yi has been suppressing your true power. Now, unleash it!”
Kouya Toyo closed his eyes and focused.
He felt the immense suffering radiating from the Giant Dog, a despairing, frenzied pain that threatened to destroy everything.
“Come on,” Kouya Toyo whispered, “let me feel your pain…”
His body began to tremble, the silver light becoming even more brilliant.
The Giant Dog’s agony surged into him like a tidal wave.
“Ah…” Kouya Toyo let out a pained roar.
He felt as if his body were about to explode, but at the same time, he sensed an unprecedented power within him.
"Just like that," Zhou Shenyong's voice echoed in his mind, "Absorb it, transform it, let it become your strength!"
Kouya Toyo's eyes turned a pure silver, and his body began to emanate a terrifying aura.
The Giant Dog seemed to sense the threat; it halted its attack and uneasily retreated.
"Now," Kouya Toyo slowly raised his head, his voice icy, "it's my turn."
He walked step by step toward the Giant Dog, each step causing the ground to tremble slightly.
Finally, the Giant Dog broke down. It turned and fled, disappearing into the darkness.
"Ha..." Kouya Toyo exhaled deeply as the silver light surrounding him gradually faded.
He felt a wave of weakness wash over him, but at the same time, an unprecedented sense of relief.
"I... did it," he murmured to himself.
"Yes, you did," Zhou Shenyong's voice echoed again. "But now, you must leave here quickly."
"Leave?" Kouya Toyo looked around. "How do I leave?"
"I will help you," Zhou Shenyong said, "but first, you need to find something."
"What is it?"
"A Memory Puzzle." Zhou Shenyong's voice paused. "It's nearby; look carefully."
Kouya Toyo began to search in the darkness.
He discovered that there were many grooves in the walls here, and it seemed that something was hidden inside them.
He reached out and finally, in a recess, his fingers brushed against a cold metal plate.
"What is this..." Kouya Toyo pulled the metal plate out, examining it closely under the dim light.
The plate was engraved with strange symbols and numbers.
"This is the Memory Puzzle," Zhou Shenyong's voice echoed, "It records the truth about the Laboratory Fire of 1999."
"1999... Laboratory Fire?" Kouya Toyo felt a stir in his heart.
He vaguely remembered Shen Zhao Yi mentioning this incident before.
"That's right," Zhou Shenyong continued, "That fire was not an accident. It was..."
Suddenly, Zhou Shenyong's voice cut off.
"Zhou Shenyong? Zhou Shenyong!" Kouya Toyo called out anxiously.
But there was no response.
"What’s going on..." Kouya Toyo felt a wave of unease wash over him.
At that moment, Shen Zhao Yi's voice rang out again: "It seems you have found it."
"Shen Zhao Yi!" Kouya Toyo gritted his teeth, "What do you want?"
"What do I want?" Shen Zhao Yi chuckled lightly, "Of course... to see you die."
Suddenly, the entire underground space began to shake violently.
The vines on the walls started to grow wildly, reaching out toward Kouya Toyo.
“What are these...” Kouya Toyo felt a jolt of fear.
He tried to evade, but the vines moved too swiftly.
Before long, his feet were ensnared by the vines.
“This is... Toxic Swamp Vine,” Shen Zhao Yi's voice carried a hint of triumph. “They will drain your life force.”
Kouya Toyo felt a wave of weakness wash over him.
His bones underwent Metallicization again, attempting to sever the vines.
But the vines were exceptionally resilient and could not be cut.
“It's useless,” Shen Zhao Yi's voice echoed in the darkness. “You can't escape.”
Kouya Toyo sensed his life force rapidly fading away.
He felt as if he was on the brink of death.
“Xiao Yu...” he despairingly closed his eyes.
At that moment, a blinding light suddenly illuminated the surroundings.
Kouya Toyo opened his eyes wide.
He saw Shen Zhao Yi standing not far away, holding a strange device.
“This is... a Sound Wave Weapon?” Kouya Toyo was taken aback.
It was a tool used by Neon Kennel to execute traitors.
“Kouya Toyo,” Shen Zhao Yi's voice was icy, “your resistance ends here.”
She activated the device.
In an instant, Kouya Toyo felt a sharp pain in his head, as if something were trying to burrow into his brain.
“No...” he screamed in agony.
This was the Sound Wave Weapon triggering his rabid symptoms.
“Shen Zhao Yi... you...” Kouya Toyo struggled, trying to stop her.
But his body was already beyond his control.
“Goodbye, my experiment,” Shen Zhao Yi said coldly.
Suddenly, a voice echoed in Kouya Toyo's mind.
“Kouya Toyo, transfer your pain... to me.”
It was Shen Zhao Yi's voice.
But this time, there was no mockery, no coldness—only... pain?
“What...” Kouya Toyo was taken aback.
