Kamo Gongen cast a wary glance at the old man. The Ashiwa Family and the Abe Family were both practitioners of the Shikigami Path in the realm of Onmyoji. The first patriarch of the Ashiwa Family, Aruya Douman, was a rare genius among Onmyoji, undefeated across the nine provinces until he ultimately fell to the peak of his time, Abe Haru. This was not a disgrace.
Abe Haru was recognized as the strongest Onmyoji in a millennium, with many believing that he had long surpassed the legendary realm, standing shoulder to shoulder with the divine in his mortal form. Over the course of a thousand years, only he could achieve such a feat.
Abe Haru believed that forming contracts with Shikigami could more effectively prevent the frequent occurrences of supernatural events. In contrast, Aruya Douman held that Shikigami were ultimately demons; they would only serve as weapons and servants in the hands of Onmyoji. The Ashiwa Family's ancestral Oni Yado Method aimed to assimilate Shikigami, completely harnessing their powers for their own use.
Though the first Aruya Douman had been defeated, the Ashiwa Family continued to practice this spell, gradually consuming the power of Shikigami. The current Aruya Douman had even stolen the power of Wreaking Serpent Yamata no Orochi, rising to become the head of the Yin Yang Lodge and suppressing the Abe Family in turn.
"Are you waiting for the tide of Sha Qi to reach its peak before unleashing Yamata no Orochi?" Kamo Gongen's voice trembled slightly. This was sheer madness, completely disregarding the lives and safety of the people in Heian-kyo. It contradicted the very principles of the Yin Yang Lodge.
Yet this order came from the highest commander of the Yin Yang Lodge, its head; no one could defy it—not even Kamo Gongen, who belonged to the same Yosan-kei lineage. She had no idea what level Aruya Douman had reached at this moment.
At Yasukuni Shrine, Zuo Ci sat cross-legged at the center of a fragmented magical array, casting countless Heroic Spirits and deceased citizens from Eastern Japan into Long Pool. He then used spells to ignite their grudges.
Countless dense grudges coalesced within Long Pool into a red orb, where innumerable vengeful spirits howled and clawed, unwilling to be controlled by Zuo Ci. Unfortunately, their unwillingness amounted to little more than that—mere discontent.
It was the Sha Pearl, the fundamental essence of all the Yin souls within the Wan Hun Fan. The first step was to condense the Sha Pearl. The next step involved using the Yin Five Elements' Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures to construct a foundation capable of circulating the five elements within the Wan Hun Formation.
This step proceeded swiftly, aided significantly by the Rebirth Ghost Eye, which could contain the Yin souls killed by the rain. The Yin Five Elements Celestial and Earthly Treasures, infused with endless Yin Sha Qi, simulated the Heaven and Earth Yin Yang, forming the basis for the differentiation of the five elements.
The third step was Blood Sacrifice! This was done using the Living Beings Blood Sacrifice Great Formation of Wan Ping An Jing. It was an ancient ritual designed to amplify the Dao Xing of the Yin souls.
Once Zuo Ci completed these preparations, he pulled out a peculiar straw figure with Indigo Vertical Eyes rotating atop its head. This was enhanced with the Ghost Eye Divine Ability through the Nail Head Seven Arrow Technique. Using the Ghost Eye in the sky as a medium, anyone who had seen the Ghost Eye or had been touched by the rain would become a target of his spell. This was an improved version by Zuo Ci, abandoning traditional overpowering methods in favor of direct visual mediation, thereby vastly expanding the range of his spell's effect.
"Dao Tong, Dao Tong, connect with my spirit. Grant me your life to serve my will. Wu Zang Sheng Ji, let your soul return."
Zuo Ci chanted incantations while disheveled, his pupils glowing crimson. Even with his current Dao Xing, attempting to instantly Blood Sacrifice countless living beings was somewhat taxing.
Buzz! In the sky, that enormous Ghost Eye radiated countless crimson lights. Anyone enveloped by this light would have their soul instantly depart from their corporeal form. From a vantage point above in the sky, one could see strange patterns swirling across the ground of Heian-kyo.
One after another, living beings exploded into a mist of blood, creating intricate ravines of crimson that writhed and converged towards Zuo Ci.
