Ling Xue felt a surge of urgency within her; she knew she had to act immediately. Turning to Liu Jiang, she said firmly, "We need to find Xing Ming right away and explain everything to him." Liu Jiang nodded, gripping Ling Xue's hand tightly as they both headed in the direction of Xing Ming. Under the setting sun, their shadows stretched long behind them, as if foreshadowing the difficult conversation that lay ahead.
Taking a deep breath, Ling Xue approached Xing Ming, her face filled with guilt. "Xing Ming," she began, "Liu Jiang and I are together now. I know this hurts you deeply, but matters of the heart are unpredictable. I want to ask you for a favor. Remember how you wanted to see the sunrise from that mountain but never had the chance? Liu Jiang and I will go with you. We'll take care of you along the way, as a way to make it up to you. After we watch the sunrise, I hope you can try to let go and forgive us."
Xing Ming fell silent for a moment, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes before he finally nodded. At that moment, Ling Xue noticed that Xing Ming's favorability towards her had increased.
Liu Jiang chimed in beside her, "Yeah, brother, we know we were wrong. This time we'll make sure to help you fulfill your wish. If you ever face any difficulties in the future, just let us know—we won't hesitate to help."
Xing Ming remained silent, his brow furrowed. After a long pause, he slowly replied, "Alright, let's do it your way. I hope that after this, we can truly find closure."
On the day they were set to watch the sunrise, the sky was still dark. The heavy night hung over the earth like a vast satin curtain, with only a few stars twinkling faintly at the horizon, seemingly mourning for the impending farewell. The three of them arrived at the foot of the mountain early, their hearts heavy as they began their ascent. The wind whistled through the mountains, causing the surrounding trees to sway and rustle as if whispering secrets about the tangled emotions among them. The insects in the grass chirped tirelessly, adding a layer of noise to the quiet night.
At this point, Xing Ming's favorability towards Ling Xue had risen significantly.
Ling Xue sought to break the silence and turned to Xing Ming. "Do you remember when you first told me about this mountain? I still recall the excitement in your eyes; I thought then that I must accompany you here someday." Xing Ming merely grunted in response, his gaze fixed on the distant blurred outline of the forest. A hint of sadness lingered in his expression as mist swirled around him, seemingly echoing his sorrow.
Liu Jiang took over the conversation beside them. "Brother, let's enjoy this journey together. No matter what happens afterward, we hope you'll be alright." As he spoke, a faint light began to appear on the horizon; soft rays started piercing through the clouds, outlining them with golden edges.
When they finally reached the summit, a biting mountain wind hit them squarely in the face, making it hard to keep their eyes open. The breathtaking view before them left them momentarily speechless. The distant peaks gradually became clearer in the morning light—rolling hills resembling a slumbering giant dragon. The clouds at dawn seemed ignited; they blazed red like fire and glowed orange like gold—a riot of colors woven together as light grew brighter and gradually dispelled the darkness.
As Xing Ming gazed at this magnificent sight before him, something stirred deep within him; a hint of relief began to show on his face.
Ling Xue and Liu Jiang watched him anxiously as Xing Ming took a deep breath and smiled faintly. "This view is truly worth it." Though his smile still held some bitterness, it warmed both of their hearts; it felt as if their bond was finally beginning to loosen under the gentle warmth of this sunrise.
Ling Xue checked again and saw that Xing Ming's favorability towards her had risen even further.
Looking into the distance, Xing Ming suddenly spoke up: "I’ve known for a long time that feelings can't be forced; it's just that I've been struggling with this hurdle in my heart. Seeing this sunrise makes me feel like maybe it's time to let go." His voice was carried by the wind—soft yet resolute—like that rising sun.
Tears welled up in Ling Xue's eyes as she replied, "Xing Ming, it's wonderful that you can think this way; you'll always be our most important friend." Her hair danced in the wind as her eyes sparkled with emotion and relief.
Though reluctant to do so, Ling Xue activated her Charm Skill once more; wanting to complete her task quickly, she directed it at Xing Ming so he would begin envisioning himself as her devoted admirer and backup.
In an instant, Xing Ming's gaze turned bewildered as memories of their time together flashed through his mind like a film reel. The feelings he had tried so hard to suppress surged forth like a tidal wave. He began imagining himself as Ling Xue's loyal supporter—always there for her no matter what choices she made—dedicated to protecting her side by side without fail.
In that fleeting moment, time seemed to stretch infinitely as Xing Ming lost himself in this imagined world he had created for himself.
