Lu Qiang drove through the Kyoto South District in his Mercedes-Benz and arrived at the suburbs. I had expected him to take me to some bustling place, but I was surprised to find ourselves in the outskirts. Was there really a high-end spot out here? I had never heard of such a place in the Southern District.
But I didn’t ask; it would make me sound clueless. Lu Qiang parked in front of what looked like an abandoned factory and smiled at me, saying, "We’re here. Get out, brother."
I nodded and followed him out of the car. He looked at me with a grin and said, "You have no idea where we are, do you?"
I honestly shook my head; I truly didn’t know, but I was sure there was something extraordinary inside!
"Let’s go! I’ll show you what life is all about!" Lu Qiang said with a smirk as he led me into the abandoned factory. Once we entered through the main door, I noticed someone dressed extravagantly crying at the entrance.
Yes, crying!
Lu Qiang didn’t even glance at the person, acting as if it were completely normal. But I was puzzled—what kind of place could make someone cry right after entering?
Didn’t Lu Qiang say he would show me what life is like? I was curious.
As we walked deeper into the factory, it didn’t seem particularly special.
"This is part of our Tian Ye Group’s property," Lu Qiang said with excitement. "You’re going to love it! Come on, brother, let me show you around."
He led me into a dilapidated office where I noticed a door on the floor. Lu Qiang opened it, revealing a staircase leading down to a basement.
So it really was a basement!
I had to admit that Tian Ye Group was impressive. Lu Qiang had mentioned that this property had only recently been constructed; the air still carried the scent of fresh earth. They were already ready for business? It showed just how fast Tian Ye Group operated.
Clearly, this casino was established after a change in leadership. I didn’t know if Lin Tianfeng had ever been involved in such dealings, but he certainly hadn’t in recent years.
As we descended the basement stairs, I saw another door. When Lu Qiang opened it, I was immediately stunned by the dazzling interior! Inside was a casino!
There were about a dozen gaming tables set up for various games! The most striking feature was the numerous bunny girls dressed in matching sexy outfits! Many of them were being held closely by patrons, their hands roaming freely.
"What do you think, brother? Not bad, right?"
Lu Qiang smiled at me and asked, I nodded with a grin, saying it was good, but in my heart, I felt otherwise. Many people enjoyed gambling for the thrill it brought! However, I didn't like it; in fact, I was quite averse to it. I hated the idea of betting my fate on a deck of cards. My destiny had to be firmly in my own hands! If I didn't want to, I wouldn't let anything influence my control over my own fate!
Of course, here we were talking about this kind of high-stakes gambling! It could lead people to lose everything, leaving families shattered. This was harmful!
"Come on, brother, let me show you around," Lu Qiang said cheerfully as he patted my shoulder and led me toward the bar counter. I smiled and nodded, following him. One of the most frustrating aspects of being undercover was that often you had to do things you didn’t enjoy!
Just like now, I could only accompany Lu Qiang for a bit of fun; after all, he was the one spending the money. I was disciplined enough not to get addicted.
"One hundred thousand in chips!" Lu Qiang approached the bar counter and handed his bank card to the bartender. The bartender acknowledged him and proceeded to process the card.
"Lu Ge, I don't need that much; just two chips will do," I told Lu Qiang, but he chuckled softly and replied, "Brother, here you need to exchange for one hundred thousand chips to qualify for a bunny girl. The bunny girls can do anything; just enjoy!"
After Lu Qiang finished speaking, he playfully patted my shoulder. Suddenly, it dawned on me—Tian Ye Group really had some tricks up their sleeve! They used this method to entice customers into exchanging chips? I wondered why Lu Qiang didn’t just ask for two hundred thousand chips instead of one hundred thousand.
Soon enough, I received one hundred thousand chips: ten one-thousand chips, three ten-thousand chips, and three twenty-thousand chips. The smallest denomination was a thousand! Damn it, I had never played with stakes this high before!
"Brother, which one do you fancy? Pick one," Lu Qiang said.
After exchanging the chips, a row of bunny girls immediately stood before Lu Qiang and me. I looked at each smiling bunny girl and chuckled; to put it bluntly, these women were just objects of desire. I wasn't fond of such things, but now that I was out with Lu Qiang, if I refused him, what would he think?
He might believe that we weren't on the same wavelength and would stop sharing things that people like us would talk about. That would hinder my chances of getting closer to Cao Minghui through Lu Qiang.
I chose a bunny girl with a small face and rosy cheeks; she looked shy enough not to be overly flirtatious. I preferred Linna's playful teasing; these girls wouldn’t do.
Once I made my choice, Lu Qiang picked one too. Then he wrapped his arm around the bunny girl and took his chips to the gambling table to start playing. Looking around, it seemed that exchanging for one hundred thousand chips placed us in the common crowd; many others were tossing chips around in heaps at the table—some even had chips worth a hundred thousand each!
Wouldn’t it be thrilling if this information got leaked to the police?
But right now, I couldn’t do that. The Tian Ye Group's gambling hall had just opened for business; it was clear that everyone playing here was trusted by them. If this place got raided now, everyone who had been here would end up on Tian Ye Group’s investigation list. As an undercover agent, I'd no longer be able to operate within Tian Ye Group.
It wouldn’t be worth it; even when I worked undercover before, the police would never jeopardize an agent for such trivial gains. After all, the higher an undercover agent’s level, the more information they could access. Compared to a casino open only to wealthy individuals, having access to more information held far greater value.
Anyway, since I saw it now, sooner or later it would come out.
Lu Qiang started playing while I followed suit; the game was simple—Blackjack. Lu Qiang played with stakes around ten thousand each hand while I played with one thousand at a time.
Not long after, Lu Qiang said I was too inexperienced. I played with five thousand, thinking it wasn't my money, so I might as well just go along for the ride. But sometimes reality works in strange ways; when you don't want to win money, you end up winning! And when you actually want to win, you lose everything!
Just like now—I had somehow won over fifty thousand! Meanwhile, Lu Qiang lost everything.
"Brother Lu, here, take this," I said, handing him some chips.
Lu Qiang wanted to exchange his chips, but I stopped him. I grabbed a handful of chips—about a hundred thousand—and returned them to him, calling it even. Lu Qiang didn't refuse; he thanked me and said he needed a bit of luck before diving back into the game, but he lost it all again.
I lost everything too.
Damn! My luck was terrible!
Lu Qiang couldn't help but curse. At that moment, a bunny girl beside him spoke up, "Master Lu, I think your luck is about to turn around! Keep playing and you'll win!"
"Win my ass! Get lost!"
Lu Qiang was in a foul mood, and the girl’s comment hit him wrong. She left in disgrace. From this, I realized that Lu Qiang wasn't particularly wealthy; at least not compared to many others here. There were people who could lose or win millions in a single hand, while Lu Qiang had only lost around two hundred thousand.
Thinking about it, Lu Qiang was just a lesser boss at Tian Ye Group. How much could he possibly earn in a month? With his gambling habits, how much money would be enough for him?
Once he sent the bunny girl away, I knew he wanted to leave too. I let my own bunny girl go as well; my choice felt right. She had been shy and hardly spoke to me—very quiet.
"Cough! Let's go, brother. The luck's just too bad today. I'll bring you back another time!"
Lu Qiang called out to me, and I smiled in response before following him out of the casino. We had come in high-spirited but left looking defeated—that was what Lu Qiang called life.
After we got outside, I hopped into Lu Qiang's car and started chatting with him casually. I wanted to extract more information about Tian Ye Group.
Of course, discussing the casino was a good start. I asked Lu Qiang who was currently managing this place. Was it our Brother Xiong? He told me no; it was Zhuque Hall Master Cao Minghui!
Oh.
I nodded in understanding without asking further questions, but Lu Qiang continued to share more details with me.
According to him, this casino was highly profitable. All four halls in the Southern District wanted to get into this business, but there were only two spots available—one near the Azure Dragon Hall and Xuanwu Hall territory and another near Zhuque and White Tiger Halls.
With limited resources that everyone wanted—including Zhuque Hall Master Xiong Li—Xiong Li hadn’t managed to take over from Cao Minghui. Currently, the two casinos in Southern District were operated by Azure Dragon Hall and Vermilion Bird Hall.
This naturally led to Xiong Li’s dissatisfaction with not being able to secure the operating rights. He had been looking for various excuses to undermine Cao Minghui and often resorted to tricks in an attempt to wrest control of the casino from him!
I continued questioning Lu Qiang about this situation. I asked if Vermilion Bird Hall was indeed stronger than White Tiger Hall? Why couldn’t Xiong Li take over? If that were true, then this situation wouldn’t benefit me at all. If Vermilion Bird Hall was indeed stronger than White Tiger Hall and Cao Minghui completely overshadowed Xiong Li, then what use would I be to Cao Minghui? Why would he need me?
