"What qualifications do you have to participate?"
As soon as I finished speaking, Wu Hai from Xuanwu Hall chimed in. Wu Hai looked quite intimidating, but did his scary appearance really matter? It would only make it harder for him to attract women.
"Why do I not have the qualifications to participate?"
Before Liu Haoran could respond, I smiled defiantly and shot back. Just a moment ago, he had tried to put me in my place, and I was eager to argue back. Damn it, as a nightclub general manager, I had every right to educate this brat!
"Hey, what qualifications do you think you have? Which of us here hasn’t been in the industry longer than you? Who do you think you are? A mere nightclub general manager trying to compete for a position here? Are you out of your mind?"
Wu Hai's words were harsh, but I couldn't help but laugh.
"Idiot."
"What did you say?"
"I said you're an idiot! What’s wrong? Are you deaf?"
I cursed directly! If he insulted me, I would insult him right back! What’s the big deal? We all knew that no one could really do anything to each other openly. Behind the scenes, he was probably already plotting against me anyway, so let him curse!
At my outburst, many people in the room were taken aback. Clearly, they hadn’t expected me to be so bold and confrontational.
"Who are you talking to? Have you lost your mind?"
Wu Hai was instantly furious. His small-mindedness was evident; he knew Liu Haoran was watching. What could he do to me? What good was his bravado?
Honestly, it didn’t matter if his last name was Wu or if he happened to be from Xuanwu Hall. He looked like a turtle with a long neck and a round shell. What was he trying to prove by sticking his neck out and making noise? Was he afraid no one would notice his peculiar appearance?
I asked Wu Hai, "You’re so small-minded! I’m just here to irritate you! Let’s see what you can do about it!"
"Damn it!"
Wu Hai was about to stand up! It had probably been a long time since anyone had described him so accurately as looking like a turtle. Liu Haoran slammed his hand on the table and shouted, "Wu Hai! We’re in a meeting! What do you think you're doing?"
"Sit down!"
After Liu Haoran reprimanded him, Geng Kun also growled at Wu Hai. Wu Hai’s face turned ugly; he ignored Liu Haoran and turned to Geng Kun, saying, "Kun Ge, this kid actually dared to insult me!"
"This is a meeting; what’s the big deal? We can discuss it later," Geng Kun replied while looking at me with a cold smile. I returned his gaze with a friendly smile. Discuss it later? What a joke! If we were going to clash, then let’s clash! You throw your punches; I’ll take them!
At that moment, Liu Haoran chuckled and spoke up.
"Heh, Wu Hai, it seems your earlier comments weren't suitable for Xiang Dong here. Xiang Dong is quite imposing. I feel your words would suit you better; don’t you think?"
Liu Haoran seized the moment to deliberately provoke Wu Hai. Upon hearing this, Wu Hai clenched his teeth in anger, his face turning crimson. He naturally understood that Liu Haoran was referring to his earlier remark about how a bear could dominate another bear's den, implying that he was now at the mercy of Liu Haoran. Wu Hai felt utterly frustrated.
With Geng Kun having spoken up and Liu Haoran being one rank above him, Wu Hai dared not retort any further.
"Well then, since the two candidates for the election have been decided, let's stick to our usual rules. The ones with voting rights are me, Cao Minghui, Geng Kun, and Wu Hai. Three days from now, we will vote to determine who will take charge of White Tiger Hall," Liu Haoran said with a smile. "In fact, if I survive, I would have one vote from Cao Minghui and one and a half votes from myself, totaling two and a half votes. Meanwhile, He Wei only has two votes. I’m bound to win. So it all depends on whether I can make something happen in these three days or if Cao Minghui will switch sides."
As soon as Liu Haoran finished speaking, Geng Kun and Wu Hai stood up to leave. Accompanying them was He Wei, Geng Kun's recently groomed lackey. Liu Haoran remained seated, as did Cao Minghui; Zheng Yu and Lu Qiang also stayed put. I knew Liu Haoran still had more to say.
"Boss, Geng Kun has gone too far. Now that Ning Chuan is in a precarious position, he’s still acting so arrogant—he really doesn’t know when to quit," Cao Minghui remarked, likely referring to Ning Chuan as Geng Kun's pawn.
"Let’s not speak too soon. Right now, we’re all just waiting for an opportunity. Once the higher-ups have determined the outcome of their struggle, we’ll have our own results here as well. Cao Tang, I believe you already have an idea of who you’ll be voting for in three days?"
Liu Haoran observed Cao Minghui closely and realized that there was indeed a struggle between Liu Haoran's faction and Geng Kun's faction. Once the higher-ups reached a conclusion about their conflict, whoever emerged victorious would naturally gain power.
Cao Minghui nodded repeatedly in agreement. Then Liu Haoran turned to me with a beaming smile.
"Xiang Dong, you are a person with great potential. Your performance today was commendable. You can see the current situation; although Tian Ye Group prohibits harming fellow members and requires evidence for such actions, I cannot guarantee that Geng Kun and Wu Hai won’t target you. How about I send a few bodyguards to protect you over the next couple of days?"
