After my conversation with Qu Zhan, he left, and soon after, Du Tao and Fang Ying arrived. Naturally, they inquired about my discussion with Qu Zhan. I answered truthfully, and Du Tao seemed satisfied, telling me that he would handle the next steps.
Of course, by "handle," Du Tao meant solidifying the evidence against Qu Gui. Whether or not this was all orchestrated by Qu Gui was crucial, but what mattered more was distancing himself from responsibility. Even if Du Tao intended to investigate, it would only be after he had cleared himself of any involvement.
Outside, the winds were turbulent, but I remained quietly in the hospital, enjoying some watermelon.
A week passed quickly, and my injuries were nearly healed. I was simply reluctant to leave the hospital. First of all, I was exhausted. Secondly, I had met an incredibly beautiful nurse named Linna.
"You look like you've made a mess of things!" Linna entered my room with a frown. After Qu Zhan's visit, Du Tao hadn’t come back to the hospital much. The number of visitors had dwindled, but Linna somehow managed to become my dedicated caregiver.
Do you think I want to leave this place?
To prevent Linna from being recognized by anyone from Tian Ye Group, I had arranged for one of my subordinates to stand guard at the entrance. If anyone came to see me, I would be notified immediately.
"I'm a patient; please don't talk to me in idioms; I'm not in the mood for that," I pouted and tossed a piece of watermelon rind into the trash can. My room was actually quite clean; it was just that Linna had a bit of a cleanliness obsession.
"Stop pretending! The doctor said you're recovering well and can be discharged anytime. Still playing the patient card? You’re just a big boy throwing a tantrum!" Linna rolled her eyes at me, giving an objective assessment.
That's right. I was throwing a tantrum! What are you going to do about it?
"Come on, stop sulking! Let’s play ranked!" I pulled out my phone and suggested to Linna. Ranked matches were part of a mobile game we played together during these dull days. Our teamwork was so good that I had quickly climbed from the Gold rank to the highest level!
With misunderstandings cleared up, my relationship with Linna began to progress rapidly. We even shared some flirtatious moments in the hospital room; she took care of me without reprimanding me for being playful since I was technically still a patient.
Of course, I hadn’t yet taken that final step; I estimated it wouldn’t be long before I did.
Linna sighed helplessly and took out her phone to match with me again. Just as she did, my phone rang—it was one of my subordinates at the hospital entrance.
“Dong Ge, Fang Zhu Master is here to see you.”
“Oh, I know.” I responded and turned to Linna, who was looking at me. “Someone’s here; hurry!”
“Okay,” she replied and quickly exited my room with her phone in hand. Watching her graceful figure leave made me smile.
Damn it! I felt like I was having an affair—this was surprisingly thrilling!
Before long, the sound of high heels echoed down the hallway as Fang Ying entered my room. It had been a few days since I'd seen her, and she looked noticeably thinner and more haggard than before. Yet her chest remained proudly full and captivating.
“Oh dear! Fang Zhu Master has arrived; please take a seat!” I quickly sat up and greeted Fang Ying with a smile as she returned my gaze with a warm smile before sitting beside my hospital bed.
"How are you doing?" Fang Ying asked me with a smile.
"I'm fine," I replied, my face pale. "The doctors here are quite responsible. I estimate that if I stay for half a month, I’ll be able to get back to work."
I said this with a hint of reluctance; I just didn’t want to leave. If I could drag it out for half a month, then so be it!
Fang Ying chuckled and said, "Come on now, before I came here, I called your doctor. He told me you’re not in any condition to leave yet."
"What? I'm not ready?" I exclaimed, bewildered. "He didn’t tell me that! Damn it! That bastard!"
Fang Ying laughed lightly and then said, "I know you've met a pretty nurse here. If you like her, you can take her home with you. Why waste time in such a dreary place? Don’t tell me you don’t have the ability to do that; otherwise, I might lose respect for you."
It was rare for Fang Ying to tease me like this. After hearing her words, I couldn’t help but chuckle, albeit helplessly. I laughed it off and changed the subject.
After teasing me a couple of times, Fang Ying got serious and said, "Just yesterday, a large sum of cash was discovered in Qu Gui's account. Qing Gang Leader Qu Youyang has concluded that Qu Gui is behind it. Qu Gui is very cautious; he fled before the law enforcement from Qing Gang could find him."
"He fled?" I was taken aback. It goes without saying that the money was definitely Du Tao’s doing. How could Qu Gui escape from Qing Gang? In an instant, I wondered if Qu Zhan had let him go out of some sense of kinship.
"Yes," Fang Ying continued. "The current Qu Gui is no longer the same little knife he used to be. After leaving your place, he encountered Qu Zhan, who subjected him to brutal training that most people would never endure."
Fang Ying didn’t mention whether Qu Zhan had intentionally let him go or not. Curious, I asked.
"That’s impossible," she replied. "Although Qu Zhan and Qu Gui are considered sworn brothers now, they’ve only known each other for a few days. Qu Zhan took him in because he saw value in him. Now that Qu Gui has left Qing Gang, he has lost that value. Qu Zhan wouldn’t risk anything for a worthless sworn brother."
Fang Ying shook her head as she spoke. Suddenly, everything clicked into place for me; I had previously wondered why Qu Zhan would take in someone like Qu Gui, who seemed ungrateful. But thinking about it now made sense—Qu Gui was cold-hearted and ruthless; he was like a sharp knife with significant value.
"Your injuries are healing well enough; it's time for you to be discharged," Fang Ying said. "Qu Youyang wants to see you; I've scheduled an appointment for the day after tomorrow."
"What?" Fang Ying’s calm tone shocked me.
Qu Youyang wants to see me?
What does she want with me?
"You don’t need to worry," Fang Ying reassured me. "The situation with the five traitorous factions has nothing to do with you; that matter is already settled. If Qu Da wants to see you, there must be something important."
"Something important?" I asked skeptically.
"Of course! Even if Hongmen took those five factions, their strength still doesn’t compare to Qing Gang's current power. The instability within Qing Gang means that Qu Da is constrained in what he can do. Don’t blame me for not helping you; this is your chance—make sure to seize it!"
Fang Ying smiled at me again and added, "But remember, this matter is confidential; don’t let anyone else know."
"Confidential?" My surprise was palpable.
This situation isn’t simple!
Qing Gang has a vast structure with the Elder Hall inside it; I had heard long ago that Qu Youyang would be under their control.
What use am I in all this?
Even if I am clever, does Qu Youyang not have any smart people around her? She is the Qing Gang Leader! Would she lack for capable individuals?
After Fang Ying finished speaking, Linna arrived and asked how I would respond. I had already told her that Qing Gang was her enemy, and Linna seemed unfazed. She mentioned that she had long known there would be a powerful force behind this situation; otherwise, the Tian Ye Group would never have been taken down by outsiders.
I informed her that the leader of Qing Gang, Qu Youyang, wanted to see me, and Linna merely scoffed at that. "Well, you certainly have your charms, don’t you? Looks like you’re quite lucky in love!"
Linna, dressed in her nurse's outfit with her arms crossed over her ample chest, shot me a sidelong glance. Was she unhappy about it? The key point is that your girlfriend isn’t doing her job well either. The Qing Gang Leader—now that’s impressive, a true high society figure.
I said this nonchalantly. In the past, I tried to avoid arguing with Linna because she wouldn’t coddle me; she would hit me without hesitation! But during this time, I had become much tougher. With my injuries, she wouldn’t dare to hit me.
Suddenly, I noticed Linna’s expression turn icy. "Xiang Dong, are you being arrogant with me? Do you think you can just throw your weight around? You want to bring up your injuries now? You’ve already had enough of that."
Linna’s face was cold as she approached me step by step.
Damn it!
Yes! My injuries are no secret anymore!
Seeing the way that girl was moving, it looked like she was about to take action against me!
"Stop! Don’t come any closer! This is just my instinct—give me a couple of days to recover."
"Hey! Don’t pinch!"
"Ouch! Stop it! My chest hurts; you’re pulling at my wounds!"
