"Is it too late? How can it be too late? Just look at this!" Qu Youyang said with a smile as he pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. I opened it and was taken aback; it was the will from Lu Ding Tian, designating Lu Xian as the heir to everything belonging to the Lu Family!
"What do you have there?" I asked, surprised.
Upon seeing the will, I was instantly shocked. Although it was just a piece of paper, legally, it held significant weight both within Qing Gang and beyond. It represented Lu Ding Tian's wishes, granting Lu Xian a legitimate claim to lead Qing Gang and inherit the vast assets of the Lu Family. If Lu Xian had this document, all of the Lu Family's wealth would belong to him. While it might not rival the Qu Family's fortune, during his time in power, Lu Ding Tian had certainly amassed considerable benefits from navigating between the Southern and Northern Hongmen factions, resulting in an astronomical sum.
If Lu Xian obtained this wealth along with the will, he would be significantly empowered in our struggle; he would have ample funds and followers that could rival mine. Meanwhile, I had been incapacitated for several days, unaware of my surroundings. With this will in hand, he could easily eliminate most of my supporters within just a few days, leaving me unable to compete with him.
However, with the will currently in Qu Youyang's possession, the situation changed dramatically. Lu Xian had hidden the will specifically to deceive me into returning; no one had seen it until he revealed it when he intended to execute me. This meant that aside from me, no one else had laid eyes on it. Without this will, Lu Xian couldn't claim Lu Ding Tian's inheritance and would have no way to swiftly consolidate power over Lu Fei's former subordinates.
I still had a fighting chance against Lu Xian! He had narrowly escaped death that day; now he had lost the will. During this time, I helped you out a bit. Currently, Lu Xian's position within Qing Gang is precarious at best.
Qu Youyang chuckled at my realization. After all, she had once been a formidable leader herself.
Understanding her implication, I realized that despite her feigned death and departure from Qing Gang, many of her loyalists remained within its ranks. During my absence these past few days, she must have sent her people to stir up trouble among Lu Fei's former followers.
"And look at this!" Qu Youyang said with a grin as she pulled out a smartphone for me to see. I took it and was stunned by what I saw.
"You actually have footage from that time?" I exclaimed in disbelief. The screen displayed scenes from Lu Ding Tian's hospital room—everything from my visit to see him to my conversation with Lu Xian, including the moment when Lu Xian strangled Lu Ding Tian!
This evidence changed everything! With this proof, Lu Xian would be unable to contest against me!
"Yes," Qu Youyang explained with a smile. "The camera was installed by Lu Xian himself. He thought you would be afraid that Lu Ding Tian might wake up and leave a will for him to inherit; he believed you might kill Lu Ding Tian because of that. So he set up surveillance in the hospital room to gather evidence against you."
"But since you didn’t do anything wrong," she continued, "that footage is useless now. He ordered his subordinates to delete it—conveniently enough, one of those subordinates is someone I placed beside him."
"Impressive!" I could hardly find words to express my admiration for her cunning. This video could prove invaluable!
"Well," she replied casually, "considering the current situation you know about, it's probably not wise to reveal that video just yet."
I nodded in understanding; I knew what she meant.
Currently, Lu Xian was aligned with Nan Hongmen and Xiang Nanyuan had repeatedly betrayed me. There was no way we could cooperate now—or perhaps Xiang Nanyuan never intended to work with me at all. If I brought forth this evidence against Lu Xian, it would mean an irreparable rift between me and Nan Hongmen; we would become sworn enemies for life.
North Hongmen has always had a poor attitude towards me, and now they are even supporting newcomers. If I were to take the position now, it could lead to dissatisfaction from both Southern and Northern Hongmen towards me as the head. It’s very likely that they would abandon their efforts to recruit Qing Gang and unite against me.
What do you think? Are you satisfied? If so, hurry back; how can such a large Qing Gang be without its leader?
Qu Youyang smiled at me. I nodded in response, though I was still injured. With Lu Ding Tian dead, Qing Gang was in a state of turmoil. I had already spent two days in the hospital; I couldn’t let Lu Xian gain any more advantage!
Fortunately, Qu Youyang didn’t send me abroad for treatment. I stayed in Shanghai, changed my clothes, and prepared to leave. Just as I reached the door, I overheard a small nurse whispering with Qu Youyang.
“Wow, Sister Yang, you’re amazing! You managed to handle him with just a few words.”
The nurse’s voice caught my attention, and I leaned in to eavesdrop. Damn it! They were talking about me!
“Of course! I’ve rehearsed this scene in my mind countless times. That kid is easy to manage! After all, he’s my brother! I have plenty of ways to make him listen to me!” Qu Youyang said proudly.
At that moment, my expression darkened. Damn it, is this all just a scheme?
“Not really; he’s quite soft-hearted and a bit foolish,” the nurse chimed in.
They were talking behind my back? I took a deep breath and pushed the door open, causing both women to freeze in surprise.
“Uh…” They both looked completely bewildered.
“Oh no, I suddenly feel a bit dizzy. Can you help me back to rest for a while?” Qu Youyang feigned dizziness immediately.
The nurse quickly realized what was happening and cooperated perfectly, helping Qu Youyang escape my sight while they chatted.
“What happened? Why are you feeling dizzy? It’s all because of your brother; you haven’t slept well for days. You really need to rest.”
Although the nurse was European, her Chinese was undeniably fluent; she could lie so smoothly.
“Yeah, what can I do? He’s my only brother,” Qu Youyang continued dramatically. “Oh no, I can’t take it anymore; I’m feeling faint…”
I watched them with a wry smile; her acting skills were not impressive at all.
Not wanting to linger any longer, I left the hospital and called Zheng Yu. He was very happy to hear that I was okay. After briefly understanding my situation, he reported back to me.
Lu Xian hasn’t been having an easy time either. Some of Lu Ding Tian’s former subordinates in Qing Gang have been causing trouble, questioning whether Lu Ding Tian was really killed by me. They even asked Lu Xian how he allowed me to kill Lu Ding Tian when he was present at the scene. Today, Lu Xian held a high-level meeting within Wan Qing Ying Tuan to discuss who would lead Qing Gang; all the prominent figures from Qing Gang would be attending.
Zheng Yu continued and informed me that during my two-day disappearance, Lu Xian had spread rumors claiming that I had been executed. The members of Qing Gang didn’t believe him and demanded proof of my death; however, Lu Xian couldn’t provide any.
Afterward, Lu Xian began cracking down on my followers. The former subordinates of Lu Fei in Qing Gang were all on edge; no one wanted to approach Lu Xian when he called for them. Even when he sent people to capture them, there was resistance—no one could be taken away.
I then asked about Southern and Northern Hongmen’s involvement in this matter. Zheng Yu told me that they did have some influence since it was an internal issue within Qing Gang. Southern Hongmen merely provided some financial and manpower support to Lu Xian, who hadn’t yet inherited the Lu family assets. Northern Hongmen seemed aware of Lu Xian's betrayal and were now opposing him while protecting Lu Fei's former subordinates. Moreover, Ye Shao from Northern Hongmen had spent the night discussing matters with Zhang Feihai.
I thought about this person, Zhang Feihai. He has some influence within the Qing Gang and is the eldest son of the former Second Elder. Among Lu Fei's old subordinates, he is considered quite capable. The purpose of North Hongmen's actions is obvious; they want to support a puppet to compete with Lu Xian for control of Qing Gang. Although this person may struggle to rival Lu Xian, it is certainly better than watching Nan Hongmen take over Qing Gang.
I also inquired about the recent situation of Tian Ye Gang. After Du Tao's death, Lu Xian appointed his own people to take over Du Tao's position. After all, with a new leader stepping in, there are many things that both the new and old leadership are not familiar with. Therefore, Fang Ying was promoted to vice president, and currently, most matters concerning Tian Ye Gang are decided by Fang Ying. The new and old leaders are merely there to oversee Fang Ying on Lu Xian's behalf.
Dong Ge, what do you plan to do now? The day before yesterday, North Hongmen's young leader sought out Zhang Feihai, and in just two days, Zhang Feihai managed to win over quite a few hearts.
Zheng Yu asked me about it. I smiled after hearing this. North Hongmen reaching out to Zhang Feihai for a chat clearly indicates their intention to elevate him as a leader of Qing Gang. With North Hongmen backing him, it would be much easier for Zhang Feihai to garner support.
Can someone like Zhang Feihai really replace my position and compete with Lu Xian? If that were truly possible, then Qu Youyang wouldn't have gone through so much trouble to replace me with Lu Yan's face.
Don't worry; I will handle everything.
I said with a smile before hanging up the phone. I got ready and drove towards Wan Qing Ying Tuan. Zheng Yu had informed me that Lu Xian's meeting was scheduled for eleven o'clock, and since it was already noon, I should arrive just in time for the most exciting part.
Upon arriving at Wan Qing Ying Tuan's entrance, I found that even the security guards were absent. Walking into the lobby, I saw no one around. At that moment, Wan Qing Ying Tuan's office building felt eerily desolate, almost as if it were on the verge of shutting down.
This wasn't hard to guess; although joining Qing Gang's Wan Qing Ying Tuan was difficult and offered high rewards, it wasn't exactly a good company in strict terms. The underworld nature behind Wan Qing Ying Tuan was enough to scare any ordinary employee away.
Currently, Qing Gang was in chaos; its members could no longer operate normally. Those high-salaried professionals who were hired but didn't belong to Qing Gang certainly wouldn't dare come to work at Wan Qing Ying Tuan during such turbulent times.
I smoothly took the elevator up and arrived at the floor. Just as I approached the conference room door, I heard Lu Xian's voice from inside.
"I am the designated heir of the old man! I have a will! How can you say that it's possible I killed him? Damn it! I was raised by him! Unlike that wolf cub! How could I possibly kill him?"
"And Lu Fei! He is my biological brother! We have over twenty years of brotherhood; how could I kill him? Even if you think with your butt, you should know it's definitely that wolf cub Lu Yan who did it! How long has he been back? Ever since he returned home, everything has started going wrong!"
Lu Xian's voice was agitated, sounding as if he truly believed what he was saying. I couldn't help but wonder how he would react if I revealed this video in front of everyone in the room.
