In the Great Zhou Dynasty, within the Feng Tian Dian of the imperial palace, dawn had arrived. Wu Chaochen had donned his official robes and stood outside the Feng Tian Dian, awaiting the announcement from the Ceremonial Eunuch.
As the voice of the Ceremonial Eunuch echoed, Wu Chaochen entered the Feng Tian Dian in an orderly fashion. Leading the military officials was the Langya Prince, followed by the Lingnan Prince. At the forefront of the ministers was Minister of Justice Luo Yuhua, followed closely by Minister of War Lord Wang.
All eyes were on the empty dragon throne as they eagerly awaited Su Qianxue's arrival. Meanwhile, Xia Guo Jiu Zhu was already in a side hall, waiting to be summoned after Su Qianxue ascended to court.
"Father!" Che Chengyun called out as he approached from the back of the line, standing beside the Langya Prince. This time, it seemed that the Empress would have no choice but to agree to Jiu Zhu's demands.
With these funds, should they split them in half to either expand the army or recruit local youths to form militia units? They could either bolster the existing military with elite troops or organize militias across various states and counties that could quickly transform into an army should circumstances change.
The Langya Prince raised a hand slightly, his deep-set eyes glinting like a vulture ready to feast on carrion. With a sinister smile, he whispered, "No need to rush. Once the dust settles, we will discuss how to spend this money, father and son together."
"Yes, father is wise!" Che Chengyun replied, standing silently by his side.
Suddenly, as the voice of the Ceremonial Eunuch rang out again, Su Qianxue appeared in her Dragon Robe and approached the dragon throne. The ministers shouted their praises.
Once Su Qianxue signaled for them to rise, Langya Prince exchanged a glance with Minister of War Lord Wang.
Lord Wang immediately stepped forward and addressed Her Majesty: "Your Majesty, Xia Guo Jiu Zhu is already waiting in a side hall. We kindly request that you summon Jiu Zhu first."
Other matters of state can be temporarily set aside; nothing is more important than Xia Kingdom!
"Lord Wang, I do not need you to direct me!" Su Qianxue's expression darkened as she gazed outside at the situation, still awaiting Jiang Han's response.
She had initially planned to deal with other nations first and delay summoning Xia Guo Jiu Zhu for at least an hour. However, Lord Wang had brought dozens of officials who knelt down in unison, urging Su Qianxue to summon Xia Guo Jiu Zhu first.
They truly left no room for negotiation.
"Your Majesty, Xia Kingdom is of utmost importance!"
"Your Majesty, the Jiu Zhu has traveled a great distance and should not be treated with indifference."
"Your Majesty, today’s morning court requires an answer. If we cannot provide one, we should discuss how to offer our tribute."
The ministers pressed in closer, forcing Su Qianxue to order the immediate summoning of Xia Guo Jiu Zhu.
Dressed in splendid palace attire, Xia Guo Jiu Zhu strode into Feng Tian Dian with a regal gait, neither kneeling nor bowing. Every movement exuded an air of elegance and grandeur. Her eyes boldly scanned the assembly of Da Zhou officials, much like a lion surveying its herd.
Seeing Jiu Zhu's demeanor, Su Qianxue felt a surge of displeasure but was constrained by the nation's strength from expressing her anger.
Jiu Zhu spoke leisurely, "Da Zhou Emperor, the two-day agreement has come to an end. Has your nation calculated the answer?"
This left Su Qianxue momentarily stunned, at a loss for words.
All eyes turned to Su Qianxue as Man Chao Wu and others watched intently.
Several officials, including Minister Wang and others, were on edge, waiting for Su Qianxue to utter the words that would indicate their inability to respond. They were poised to immediately demand that she comply with their requests for compensation.
Langya Prince’s gaze was cold and filled with murderous intent as he fixed his stare on Su Qianxue.
Lingnan Prince could only turn his head away, unable to bear the scene unfolding before him.
Minister of Justice Luo Yuhua longed to assist Su Qianxue but felt utterly powerless. He raised his head and closed his eyes, quietly awaiting the inevitable downfall. Many of Su Qianxue's officials shared this sentiment, resembling lambs awaiting slaughter.
"Elder Sister! I have arrived!"
A familiar figure appeared on the left side of Feng Tian Dian.
From a small door on the left, Piao Xue Zhu stepped out, instantly capturing everyone's attention.
Langya Prince wore a puzzled expression while Xia Guo Jiu Zhu looked on in confusion. The officials were momentarily taken aback, unsure of what this young lady was doing here.
Ignoring all gazes upon her, Piao Xue Zhu confidently approached Su Qianxue and handed her a piece of silk cloth.
Su Qianxue opened the cloth to reveal an extensive array of data written upon it. Instantly, her anxious heart settled.
A confident smile spread across her face as she felt assured of victory.
Piao Xue Zhu quickly stepped back to the side; the silk contained data provided by Jiang Han.
"Jiu Zhu," she declared, "since you require us to answer your question!"
"You think we won't be able to answer, but I already have the answer here!" Su Qianxue's calm voice echoed throughout the court, causing Wu Quncheng to gasp in surprise.
Luo Yuhua's eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Su Qianxue. The officials, including Lord Wang, were equally astonished, their faces reflecting their skepticism.
"Very well, then please, Your Majesty, reveal the answer," Xia Guo Jiu Zhu said.
"No!" Su Qianxue interjected, indicating that the answer was too significant to simply declare. "If you don't acknowledge it, wouldn't that be a problem?"
"How about this: let us each write our answers on a piece of silk and reveal them simultaneously?" Xia Guo Jiu Zhu suggested with a cold snort, clearly doubting that Su Qianxue could come up with the correct answer. She readily agreed.
She requested a piece of silk and a brush, quickly writing down her answer before covering it with another piece of silk. Su Qianxue then placed her silk over the answer.
The two pieces of silk were placed in front of everyone, held by two eunuchs. Langya Prince eyed the eunuchs suspiciously.
As Su Qianxue announced it was time to unveil the answers, the two eunuchs lifted the silks to reveal what was written underneath.
Wu Quncheng leaned in to take a look and gasped in astonishment upon seeing the answers.
Standing at the back, Xia Guo Jiu Zhu watched this unfold with confusion that quickly turned into shock. Unable to contain herself, she stepped forward. When she saw that both pieces of silk bore the same answer, her eyes widened in disbelief. "How is this possible? This question was solved by a sage from Xia Kingdom after fifteen years of effort. How could you arrive at the same conclusion in just two days?"
Langya Prince stood dumbfounded and instinctively moved closer to Wu Chaochen to peer at the answers. He then turned to Su Qianxue and asked, "How did you figure it out?"
