"Oh, I see! Then you work hard, and if there’s any new situation, make sure to report back home as soon as possible."
"Yes!"
After hanging up the phone, Bai Song tossed his mobile onto the table and settled into the wide-backed chair when the phone rang again.
"Senior Brother, uh, Team Leader Bai, we have a situation here. Can you come to assist us?" The voice of Team Three's leader, Xie Yunxiao, was low, as if he were afraid of being overheard.
"What happened?"
"We’ve made a new discovery regarding the Human Flesh Sashimi Case. Senior Brother, hurry and bring some people to Jianshe Donglu Dongming Garden," Xie Yunxiao's speech quickened.
"What’s going on there?"
Suddenly, there was a series of beeping sounds—the call disconnected.
"A bunch of useless fools, what a hassle!" Bai Song suppressed his impatience and quickly dialed another number.
"Hello, Captain, what are the instructions?"
"Team Three is in trouble. Hurry and bring a few people; wait for me at the entrance!"
"Yes!"
When Yan Kongyue and Lin Zhuo returned to the Lin Family home, Lin Old Man was standing at the door. Upon seeing Yan Kongyue's face, he finally smiled.
"Grandpa, were you waiting for us?"
"Lin Lang left without bringing bodyguards; I was a bit worried about you!" Lin Old Man said it was about them, but his eyes didn’t even glance at Lin Zhuo.
"Girl, have you eaten enough?" Lin Ruyu also came out upon hearing the voice.
"Aunt San, actually, I could eat a bit more! Earlier, I used a lot of spiritual energy to let that mother and daughter embrace one last time. After eating at the night market tonight, I feel hungry again."
"Just in time! Your Aunt San sent over some lobsters and King Crab; I'll have someone prepare them right away."
"Great!" Yan Kongyue happily supported Lin Old Man back into the living room.
"Why is it so quiet today?"
"Hehehe, everyone is busy!" Lin Old Man hadn’t stopped smiling since he saw Yan Kongyue's face.
"What about Wei He?"
"Xiao He went back to her room to review; your second uncle found her a lot of study materials. That child is overjoyed."
"Hey, not bad! We need to find her something to do!"
"Yeah, if you don't, she'll either be sulking alone or running to the kitchen to help out. Poor thing!"
"It'll be fine in a few days!"
"By the way, your brother said her court date is next month. The judge is sure to ask a lot of questions; I wonder if she can handle it."
"There's no rush. She seems to be doing well right now. A little adjustment and she should be fine."
"Yeah, she's a good kid, but her life has been tough!"
An old man and a young girl sat on the sofa chatting, the scene harmonious enough that anyone would think they had known each other for years.
"Yan Kongyue, dinner's ready!"
"I'm coming," Yan Kongyue called back, then turned to the old man and said, "Grandpa, why don't you come eat too?"
"No thanks, you all eat. It's getting late; I need to go back and rest!" Lin Old Man said as he used Yan Kongyue's hand for support to stand up. The butler helped him leave.
The night passed without a word. Yan Kongyue woke up naturally. As soon as she opened her eyes, she heard the sound of rain outside. She loved the rain but disliked dealing with ghosts when it was pouring.
She casually picked up her phone without turning on the screen, just staring at it. Soon, a pleasant ringtone rang out, and the screen displayed Lin Zhuo's name.
"Hello!"
"Yan Kongyue, are you awake?"
"Just woke up!"
"By the way, when will you be home?" Yan Kongyue knew what Lin Zhuo was getting at and sensed he felt a bit awkward asking her.
"In about ten minutes."
"Okay, I'll get up right away!"
