Tang Zhi felt the time had come; she needed to set off.
"Wait a little longer, Tang Zhi. You must understand that you and she will never meet again. To dispel her resentment, and out of the bond you share as sisters, I have done my utmost to allow you one last meeting. However, this is where your paths diverge, and there will be no further encounters."
What would happen to her?
"She killed someone in Yangjian; do you understand what I mean? I had Song General take her away; it’s far better than if Hei Wuchang had taken her. Yan Kongyue sympathizes with Tang Yuan, but she has committed murder, which is a fact. Even if she doesn’t end up at Sulfur Fire Lake, she will still face punishment—though it won’t be as excruciating as being burned for a thousand years."
Tang Zhi knew very well that if it weren't for Yan Kongyue, she would never have been able to see her sister under these circumstances. If Hei Wuchang had appeared when she committed the crime, her sister might have been utterly devastated. She had never witnessed it herself, but she had heard the elders back home speak of such things.
"Second Brother, please have the police help send Tang Zhi and Wei He away!"
"Little Bao, sister is leaving now. You must be good and listen to that sister!" Tang Zhi fought back tears, trying her best to show her sister a smile. But soon enough, Tang Zhi and Wei He were escorted away by two police officers. She steeled herself not to look back; it wasn't that she feared her sister would be reluctant to let her go—she was afraid her sister would remember how she looked while crying.
Tang Yuan stood frozen, watching her sister's retreating figure. When Hei Wuchang appeared, her mind finally cleared, and both memories of living and the afterlife returned.
As she watched Tang Zhi gradually disappear from sight, Tang Yuan walked up to Yan Kongyue and raised her hands, signaling for Yan Kongyue to cuff her.
"Song General, take her away, but be gentle when you do!"
"Understood!" Song Hu clasped his fist in salute and then pulled a flaming iron chain from his armor, tossing it toward Tang Yuan. The chain coiled around her body; however, anyone could see that it merely rested on her without tightening.
Yan Kongyue made a sweeping motion in the air, and a golden rift appeared out of nowhere. Song Hu lightly spurred his horse forward, leading Tang Yuan through the golden gate.
Once the golden gate closed behind them, Lin Zhuo let out a sigh of relief. The remaining police officers hurried over; there was still one person lying on the ground over there.
The rest was no longer Yan Kongyue's concern. She waved her hand to clear the lingering Gui Qi from the air before departing.
"It seems you’ll be busy for a few more days?"
"They just informed me that Gu Ju wants to hand the case over to the Seventh Bureau."
"That’s for the best!"
"They might come looking for you to understand the situation."
Yan Kongyue scratched her brow and reluctantly uttered two words: "Fine then!"
"Are you hungry?"
"Yes, very hungry! Get me a cow to eat!" Yan Kongyue exaggeratedly rubbed her stomach.
"Let's go, I'll take you out for a late-night snack," he said.
"Okay!"
Lin Qian suddenly appeared out of nowhere, leading the two of them to the car just as Lin Zhuo's phone rang.
"Hello, Gu Ju!"
"Where are you right now?"
"My sister has been chasing ghosts all night and is starving. I need to take her out for a meal!"
"Alright, make sure to take good care of her. Whatever she likes to eat, just take her there. The bureau will reimburse you later!"
"Gu Ju, that's not necessary. My sister doesn't need the bureau to cover her meal."
"Come on, just show some goodwill. Look at you."
"My sister is quite spoiled; she only eats the best from our family. Are you really willing to pay for that? The director is notoriously stingy, and the reimbursement won't be much."
"You handle it as you see fit. The bureau's budget doesn't come from thin air, does it?"
"Fine, for the sake of taxpayers, I'll cover the cost myself!" Lin Zhuo understood his director's intentions and thought about recommending his sister to the Seventh Bureau. That was impossible; with the caliber of people in the Seventh Bureau, they were not worthy of leading his sister.
"Hello? Gu Ju? Hey, why is the signal so bad? Gu Ju, speak up; I can't hear anything." Lin Zhuo hung up the phone and waved at Lin Qian.
"Let's go!"
"Got it!"
Beep, beep, beep! Gu Zhenhua angrily threw his phone onto the table. "That brat! Trying to pull this on me again? Just wait until I dock your bonus!"
