As soon as they entered the living room, a chilling atmosphere enveloped the entire space. It was almost summer, yet it felt cold and eerie. Lin Qian and Huo Jingyu had discovered something peculiar: aside from their isolation from Gui Qi, the rest of the Lin family were surrounded by flickering golden lights whenever Gui Qi was dense.
Li Butler also felt the chill and hurried to prepare tea for everyone. Yan Kongyue's absorption of Gui Qi mode activated automatically. Lin Qian and Huo Jingyu were taken aback as they watched the visible streams of Gui Qi swirl around Yan Kongyue, only to be absorbed by her. Once she absorbed it, the Gui Qi vanished, and the golden light around the Lin family disappeared as well.
The Huo family's living room was spacious. Lin Qian pulled Yan Kongyue aside and quietly voiced his confusion.
"Come closer!" Yan Kongyue beckoned with her finger, glancing at Li Butler who was pouring tea.
Both of them leaned in: "I gave them protective talismans!"
If it weren't for the fact that two of these three kids had been raised by Li Butler, he would surely think they were up to no good.
"What talismans? I had no idea!" Lin Qian was stunned.
"I want one too!" Huo Jingyu didn't care about the talisman itself; he only cared about whether he had one.
"You all have awakened your spirits; what do you need a talisman for?"
"No, I want one! I want one!"
"Awakened? Isn't that different from awakening Ling Yan?"
Yan Kongyue nodded at Lin Qian: "Exactly! You're quite clever."
Lin Qian looked at Yan Kongyue with a smug expression: "Tell me more!"
"Not today; let's finish this task first!"
"Xiao Yu, what are you doing?" A woman's voice called from the entrance of the living room.
Tao Jing walked in and immediately spotted her son chatting with two others, seemingly in deep conversation.
"Nothing much, Mom. Where have you been?"
"I took the old Taoist priest to the hospital."
"Sister-in-law, what's going on?" Huo Jin approached with a worried expression and pulled Tao Jing away.
"Sigh, it's complicated!" Tao Jing felt overwhelmed these past few days.
"Uncle Lin, this house feels off," she began, but before she could finish her sentence, she sensed a change in the room. It had felt so cold when she left, yet now it seemed a bit warmer.
"It's fine; with my little granddaughter here, there's nothing to fear!" Old Man Lin had already sensed the change in the living room; he just chose not to mention it, chuckling to himself.
"Granddaughter?"
"That's right, sister-in-law. This girl in our family is quite impressive. Huo Jin has told Tao Jing everything that has happened at home during this time. At first, she seemed a bit skeptical and shot several puzzled glances at Yan Kongyue, but the more Huo Jin spoke, the more engaged Tao Jing became."
"Huo Jin, you have no idea how much I've suffered these past few days. At my age, it's the first time I feel so powerless," Tao Jing said, her voice heavy with frustration.
"Don't worry, with Yan Kongyue around, I guarantee everything will be resolved," Huo Jin reassured her, patting her hand comfortingly.
"Mom, Yan Kongyue said there are unclean things in our house!"
"Exactly! I told you!" Tao Jing looked at her son as if he were foolish.
"No, I mean, has anything unusual been added to your house recently?" Yan Kongyue clarified.
"Yes, unclean things!" Tao Jing insisted.
"No!" Yan Kongyue scratched his head and rephrased his question. "I mean, have you acquired any new items lately? Like antiques, vases, jade artifacts or something?"
"No!" Tao Jing thought for a moment and confirmed that nothing had been added.
"It shouldn't be like this. I see that this courtyard has been built for at least two years; why didn't anything happen before?" Yan Kongyue pondered aloud.
"I don't know! I've spent these days in fear; who has the energy to think about why?" Tao Jing replied.
"Forget it. Huo Jingyu, take me around to have a look!"
"Okay!"
"Grandpa, don't wander off. Just stay in this room and wait for me; I'll be back soon," Yan Kongyue instructed while gesturing that this was the safest place. Tao Jing didn't understand the gesture, but Lin Old Man, Huo Jin, and Lin Ruyu did.
Lin Qian hesitated for a moment. He wanted to stay behind to protect his grandfather but thought about his own abilities and decided it would be better to follow Yan Kongyue and learn something instead.
