In the afternoon, the rain had stopped, and Yan Kongyue and the others went on a shopping spree. They bought plenty of food, but also stocked up on outdoor gear, not caring whether they would actually use it or not. They bought everything they thought might be useful, after all, they had the Qiankun Bag.
The heads of the Lin Family didn’t complain; after all, they were going to be away for at least a month. They wanted to ensure that the kids wouldn’t suffer, so they packed everything they could think of. In the end, the car was packed so full that it couldn’t hold any more.
“Mom, it feels like you’re moving our entire house!” Lin Qian exclaimed as he looked at the stuffed car and the large boxes piled on the ground.
“It’s not just you going out; of course we need to bring more things!” Shen Yun chimed in, wishing she could personally take care of them.
“Exactly! You’re driving, stopping along the way; there will always be things you need,” Lin Ruyu added, having researched self-driving travel tips.
“Let’s take everything!” Yan Kongyue understood their intentions; bringing more would put their minds at ease.
“Then let’s take it all! Hehe!” Lin Qian immediately pulled out his Qiankun Bag and, under everyone’s watchful eyes, began to stow away the items.
“Huh?” The elders watching widened their eyes in surprise.
“Shh!” Lin Ruyu quickly covered Shen Yun’s mouth, worried she might say something that outsiders could hear.
“Keep it down. Since they have such a treasure, let’s have them take what we’ve sorted out too!”
“That’s enough; just these will do. If we need anything else, we can buy it on the road,” Lin Lie interjected.
“True, they won’t be running around all the time!”
Lin Lie then pulled out another suitcase. “This one contains cash I prepared for you. Honestly, I was worried that carrying so much cash might attract bad people!”
“That’s great!” Lin Qian didn’t mind having extra money.
“Tsk tsk tsk! Knowing we’re going for fun, anyone who doesn’t know would think we’re fleeing from disaster!”
The whole city had been washed clean by the rain overnight. The morning sky was a brilliant blue with fluffy clouds floating by, and the distant mountains glistened with greenery.
In the Lin Family's courtyard, everyone had gathered at the entrance except for Lin Fang, who was on a mission, and the fourth brother participating in a reality show along with Lao Wu from abroad. Even Old Master Lin, who had been taking care of his illness in the hospital, was present.
When Lin Zhuo returned in the morning, he handed Yan Kongyue an envelope. She squeezed it with her hand and smiled instantly, slipping it into her small bag before Lin Qian could ask her about it.
“Be careful on your journey!”
“Make sure not to drive while fatigued!”
“Don’t eat anything random; you don’t want to upset your stomach!”
“If anything happens, call home immediately!”
"Make sure to fight back if anyone bullies you. If you can't win, just run!" The family exchanged words of caution, their voices overlapping as the children prepared to leave. The anxiety of a mother was palpable even before her children set out on their journey.
The four kids, however, were like birds eager to take flight, readily agreeing to everything said to them, fearful that one wrong word might keep them from leaving. "Come on! Let them go already; it’s been an hour and they haven’t even left yet," Lin Jingyang remarked, unable to bear the sight any longer.
"Alright, we’re off!" Before the words were fully out, everyone had already piled into the car.
"Aunt, remember to tell my mom later!" Huo Jingyu was too afraid his mother would pull him back to mention anything at home.
"Got it! Drive safely," Huo Jin's warning trailed off as the car kicked up dust and sped away.
As soon as they burst through the front gate, the group erupted in cheers like wild horses galloping towards the highway. "Let’s get this party started!"
Suddenly, a wave of metallic music blared from the speakers.
In an instant, Feng Xing couldn’t sit still anymore and began swaying in rhythm with the beat.
"Change it; it’s too loud!" Yan Kongyue complained, unable to tolerate it any longer.
"How about a classic hit?" Lin Qian suggested, glancing at Yan Kongyue through the rearview mirror.
"Sure!" Although she had no idea what a classic hit was, she just wanted something other than what was currently playing.
"I gaze at the moon above, dreaming of soaring free..."
"Yes! This one!" Feng Xing had initially shot a resentful look at Yan Kongyue for changing the music, but the first line of this song captivated him instantly.
With cheerful music playing, Yan Kongyue dozed off for two hours until the business vehicle pulled into a service area.
"Where are we?" Yan Kongyue rubbed his eyes awake.
"We're at a service area; time to take a break!"
"Oh, I’ll stay in the car!"
