In the outskirts of Linwu County, hidden among the lush green hills, lay a small village, tranquil and serene. Beside the village, a crystal-clear stream flowed gently, and on its banks, a girl dressed in coarse cloth was bent over washing clothes. She was known as Little Red, an orphan who had been both tenderly cared for by fate and cruelly abandoned.
Little Red had been rescued by Old Wang while he was hunting in the mountains when she was just an infant. At that time, she was wrapped in a swaddling cloth embroidered with a striking red character, which led to her name.
As time flew by, Little Red spent over a decade under Old Wang's care. She was exceptionally bright and gentle in nature, earning the love and praise of the villagers.
One day, as usual, Little Red worked by the riverbank. After finishing her laundry and preparing to leave, she suddenly noticed something floating on the water's surface. Squinting to get a better look, she realized it was a person!
Startled, Little Red took several steps back, waves of fear washing over her. She understood that sometimes it was better not to get involved; she wanted to turn back to the village. However, an inexplicable sense of responsibility and compassion held her in place.
After a fierce internal struggle, Little Red gritted her teeth and summoned her courage to pull the person from the river. As she examined him closely, she found him handsome with refined features and an elegant demeanor that made her cheeks flush slightly.
Yet when her gaze fell upon a dart lodged in his chest and the bloodstained clothes he wore, worry crept into her heart. Tentatively, she checked for his breath and was relieved to find a faint sign of life.
Not daring to delay any longer, Little Red hurriedly carried him back to her humble yet cozy home. Upon seeing this, Old Wang looked astonished and asked about the man's origins. Little Red explained truthfully that she had found him while washing clothes by the river and brought him back upon noticing he still had breath.
Old Wang frowned deeply, his tone laced with concern: "Little Red, you are too kind-hearted. What if this person is dangerous? You could be inviting trouble upon yourself!"
Upon hearing this, Little Red's gaze remained resolute as she shook her head: "I don't think he is a bad person. Besides, saving a life is worth more than building a pagoda; how can we stand by and watch someone die?"
Old Wang sighed helplessly and turned away, leaving Little Red alone with the unconscious stranger in the room.
Under the dim candlelight, Little Red steadfastly remained in her modest home, her focus unwavering. After several days of careful nursing and treatment from her, the man in white on the simple wooden bed showed no signs of waking. His complexion was pale as paper, seemingly isolated from the world as he sank into endless darkness.
Old Wang often paced back and forth in concern: "Little Red, why do you persist? This man might have been pursued by enemies; if discovered, we could all be implicated!"
However, this time Little Red stood firm against his words. Shaking her head with undeniable determination shining in her eyes, she replied: "Lord Wang, I cannot just stand by while someone is dying. He is a human being, not an object; I cannot abandon him because of potential trouble."
If Li Guyang and Qi Xiao were present at that moment, they would instantly recognize that this unconscious man in white was Lu Tianming—the very person they had been searching for day and night.
Meanwhile, in Lu Tianming's dreamscape, he found himself back on that fateful night filled with bloodshed and chaos. The Lu Family estate lay in ruins amidst flames reaching for the sky.
He witnessed the destruction of his family firsthand and felt the searing pain of loss. With loyal guards sacrificing themselves to cover his escape, he fled but bore the weight of deep-seated vengeance ever since.
In his dream state, Lu Tianming burned with rage yet felt utterly helpless. It seemed as though an invisible force pulled him back to that pivotal moment that decided his fate. Just as he was about to be executed by the Li Family’s assassins, he suddenly opened his eyes wide with a gasp.
This unexpected movement startled Little Red nearby; nearly dropping the medicine bowl from her hands, her eyes were filled with shock and confusion.
Lu Tianming quickly regained his senses and scanned his surroundings with bewilderment: "Where am I? Who are you?" His voice was low and hoarse as if he hadn't spoken in ages.
Little Red steadied herself before softly replying: "This is my home; I saved you. Just focus on recovering for now; don’t think about anything else." Her tone was gentle yet firm.
