"Tommy," he continued, "if what you say is true, this could be our opportunity!"
"Yes! A massive influx of Jewish capital will escape to our country. If we do not impose restrictions, this capital will quickly turn into a leech, sucking our resources dry! Therefore, we must accept this capital but also control its owners! We cannot let them overreach!"
"What do you suggest?"
"Once war breaks out and that Jewish capital flees in panic, we should stipulate that any capital entering our country can only be used to purchase government bonds and cannot be invested in any meaningful way. We can then use these funds to prioritize repaying our national debts and shift our monetary policy from being tied to gold to being tied to national industrial products and production capacity. We should detach from relying on national credit as collateral and issue currency through the Federal Reserve, making the United States' currency a true sovereign currency rather than a debt currency!"
"Tommy," he replied skeptically, "this is simply unrealistic! You must understand that our Mellon family is part of the Federal Reserve; your proposal cannot be realized! No one would support such a change!"
"No! If a World War occurs, we—far from the center of conflict—will have strong industrial manufacturing capabilities and an output capacity for industrial goods that will back our currency. In a world reduced to ruins, we will provide all necessary industrial goods with powerful monetary backing! At that time, we will have countless opportunities to make money; we should establish the Dollar as the world currency! Once war breaks out, we must export aggressively and expand our business globally! A strong nation will back its currency; allowing a few families to control national currency issuance is shortsightedness! When the entire world becomes a wasteland and everything needs rebuilding, families holding a strong Dollar will seize global opportunities—that is the right approach! And all of this requires you, Mr. President! You must begin implementing this from the moment World War breaks out!"
"Tommy," he interjected again, "while Germany's madness is evident, you must realize that Britain and France will not sit idly by as Hitler seeks expansion! The Maginot Line and nearly a million Anglo-French Alliance troops are more than enough to thwart his insanity."
Thomas Mellon Rockefeller had spent so much time discussing this today—drinking countless cups of coffee and making numerous trips to the restroom—that he finally reached a critical point in their conversation. He cautiously glanced around before leaning toward the Secretary of the Treasury and saying quietly, "Dear friend, have all servants leave this building! Not even my mother is to remain!"
Upon hearing this, Mr. President understood the gravity of the situation. He called over members of the Secret Service to secure and surround the Mellon family's estate in Washington.
