Thomas Mellon Rockefeller was a genius, having shown his brilliance from a young age. By the time he was in his twenties, he had already earned a Master's degree in Law from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University, becoming a visiting professor at Columbia University where he lectured on the mixed doctrines of politics and economics. He often quoted that war is merely an extension of politics and that economics is the core of politics.
This was also the fundamental reason why he could engage in dialogue with the President. Thus, even though both the President and the Secretary were momentarily taken aback by his statements, they quickly regained their composure. Based on over ten hours of prior discussions, it was clear that while the Secretary of the Treasury might have doubts, at least Mr. President believed him. According to Little Tommy's vision, it was entirely possible to control the rhythm or progress of war!
"Tommy, share your thoughts if you can! I will appoint you as the Director of the Economic and Strategic Intelligence Bureau to provide me with clearer strategic bases for future global intelligence analysis," said the President.
"Then, Uncle, my first suggestion is to expedite industrialization—not just for our own land."
"Tommy, that seems contradictory!" The Finance Minister reminded his son. Although this man was referred to as Uncle, he was still Mr. President; one should be careful with words.
"No, it's not contradictory! What I mean is to rapidly gain industrial capabilities—not just for our own land but in the Northeast region they occupy. I'm sure Uncle knows that the Yamato Imperial Family has dispatched a nobleman into the Northeast to start establishing industry and has made acquisition offers to certain companies in our country."
Upon hearing Thomas Mellon Rockefeller's words, the President nodded. "Yes, that appeared about a month ago and I vetoed it."
"My suggestion is to let them proceed. First, it would alleviate our financial difficulties; second, it would provide funds for our bankrupt companies. However, we need them to pay the government rather than directly to the companies. The government would acquire these worthless enterprises and gain some revenue, which we could then invest in infrastructure!"
"But if they gain industrial capabilities, won't their war potential increase?" the Finance Minister raised another concern.
"But that's China! We only need Japan to acquire sufficient war potential and expand its war scale; then we can support China's resistance forces from behind. Japan will soon lose its war potential because that tiny island lacks stability—it's either volcanic eruptions or earthquakes. Therefore, supporting them doesn't mean continuous support; it becomes a great strategy—a way to earn money from Japan while undermining them!"
"Once Japan establishes a complete industrial system in Northeast China, when we launch a large-scale counteroffensive, we can seize Japan's war potential and turn them into our allies."
"Tommy, why aren't our allies the British and French?"
"Ha! Those two? They will only become our vassals! A shattered Europe can only rely on us for survival!"
Applause erupted again from the two older men.
"So, Tommy, should we also support Hitler to help him quickly gain the capacity to initiate war?"
"Yes, Mr. President! We must support him too—but only partially. Germany's industrial capacity is already strong and does not urgently need our industrial demands. Yes, we can provide them with two types of support!" As he spoke, Thomas Mellon Rockefeller held up two fingers.
"The first is intelligence; we will provide Germany with intelligence on the British and French—not directly but through other channels. The second is economic; we will sell them materials needed for military expansion at prices lower than those of European suppliers—just enough to make it feasible!"
"In conclusion," he added confidently, "I will personally go to Germany to assist them in accelerating their war progress!"
