Listening to the other person's account, John understood what it meant to be Transcendent and gleaned the status of Transcendent from Lai Gen's envious gaze. He then asked, "Is Brother Macao also a knight?" 0

Lai Gen shook his head. "No, Brother Macao is technically just a Half-Step Transcendent. He has condensed the Knight Seed but hasn't ignited the Knight's Flame. However, even as a Half-Step Transcendent, he is not someone we can compare ourselves to; he could take on all of us by himself." 0

Lai Gen was joking, but John felt that with nearly thirty people in their Mercenary group, it was impossible for one person to handle them all. 0

Hearing the other person's words, John had the impression that Lai Gen might have had a bit too much to drink and was rambling. Noticing John's disbelief, Lai Gen explained with a complex expression, "You still have a narrow perspective. Once you step into the realm of Transcendent, you can no longer be considered human. You don't understand; you really don't." 0

That expression and tone suggested he had experienced something significant, hinting at a painful memory. 0

"Ha ha, let's drink!" John quickly changed the subject. 0

The next day, after finishing his busy morning tasks, John seized a moment of free time to practice the Universal Qi Training Method in a secluded corner. Now that he knew about the existence of Transcendents and understood their status, he was determined to master this training method in his hands. No matter how painful it was, he had to practice because it was the only ladder leading to Transcendence. 0

In the following days, John practiced the Universal Qi Training Method while learning Basic Knife Technique from familiar Mercenaries. This was a real world; although the Golden Finger had taught him how to use the Long-handled Warhammer, this wasn't a game where summoning Wu Lan would put it in his hands. More often than not, he would have to pick up whatever weapon was nearby to fight. Knowing how to handle a short weapon would be crucial for his future, and a knife was the best entry point. 0

John focused on executing the movements: chopping, stabbing, sweeping, thrusting, hooking, and wrapping around. "You need to practice these actions again today." 0

"Alright, Lai Gen Ge," he replied. 0

Taking the machete that Lai Gen handed him, he began his drills. Meanwhile, Lai Gen ate the beef stew John had prepared and guided him through his movements. 0

"When you swing your blade, maintain some force; don’t be too rigid—prepare for your next strike. Use your waist for power; do you understand? And keep your feet moving. Bring me the knife; I'll demonstrate for you." 0

Suddenly, a voice called out from afar—Yuan Jie’s voice echoed through the camp. Everyone hurriedly rushed toward Captain's tent upon hearing Yuan Jie’s call. 0

At the sound of Yuan Jie’s voice, Lai Gen put away his Wu Lan. 0

John wiped the sweat from his face, which had trickled down from swinging his sword. He didn't dare to delay and hurriedly jogged to catch up with the others. 0

In the center of the camp, a clang echoed as James, who had visited a few days prior, placed a One-Handed Sword on Captain Poland's shoulder. 0

In front of everyone, Poland knelt on one knee, his gaze solemn as he looked at James. 0

"I, James White, second son of the White Family and captain of its guard, following the command of Viscount White, hereby confer upon Poland De Wilson the title of Knight Protector of the White Family. May Justice Trinity grant you Courage, Loyalty, Strength, and Justice." 0

"I, Poland De Wilson, in the presence of Justice Trinity, pledge my loyalty to Viscount White. From this day forth, the will of the White Family shall be my guiding belief; wherever my sword points shall be the direction I advance." 0

Once the ceremony was complete, James helped Poland to his feet, and they exchanged hearty laughter. 0

From now on, Poland would be one of their own. 0

"Well then, I’ll be counting on you from now on, Captain," Poland replied with a grin. 0

Watching from below, John observed the two men above him and understood the nature of these nobles. It seemed that even someone like Poland—a ruthless slave trader who could kill without a second thought—could become a noble. It was clear that in this world, power was what truly mattered. 0
