The Knight's Dictionary does not include the phrase "to flee without fighting," but John couldn't help but scoff at these noble knights, each one a walking disaster. Yet, he had to admit that at this moment, watching them was truly impressive; with every strike, they felled an enemy. Under the assault of the Transcendent Knight Attendants, the squad swiftly pierced through the enemy lines.
As they moved further away, John wondered if they had any tactics at all. They abandoned their formation and charged headlong into battle. He had initially thought these knights would disrupt the enemy ranks, but now they seemed to have vanished without a trace, completely disregarding any semblance of strategy.
Observing the increasingly chaotic battlefield and his teammates getting more and more reckless, John quickly grabbed the nearest allies, Johnny and Joseph. He couldn't afford to be cowardly; he had to look after his subordinates.
"Don't charge ahead recklessly! Bring everyone back!"
Seeing Johnny, who was caught up in the heat of battle and eager to push forward, John swiftly delivered a couple of friendly punches to bring him back to his senses.
"Are you awake now?"
Johnny instinctively covered his bruised eyes as he looked at his somewhat mischievous captain.
"I'm awake! Please stop hitting me, Captain."
"Then get to work."
Aside from a few who charged too quickly, John managed to gather most of the cooking team, even pulling Brother Lai Gen into their ranks.
Leading everyone forward through the throng, John couldn’t understand why those around them were running so fast. Before they knew it, they found themselves at the back of the formation.
From a distance, he watched as their beloved comrades surrounded an enemy. John let out a furious roar.
"Hey! Make some room for me! Let’s kill them!"
Despite shouting this, he graciously allowed everyone else to take all the glory.
Finally, when an opening appeared in the enemy ranks, John quickly called over his entire cooking team to share in the spoils. A dozen blades fell upon this valiant warrior as blood stained the head of his Long-handled Warhammer.
As he tasted blood for the first time in battle, a voice echoed in his mind.
"Ding! You have killed an Orc Retainer and a Wild Goblin. Soldier Profession experience increased by three points."
Oh right, soldiers gain experience by fighting enemies.
Now aware of how it worked, John became more proactive. He began leading his team from the rear, taking down scattered enemies that charged toward them.
"Ding! You have killed an Orc Retainer and a Wild Goblin. Soldier Profession experience increased by two points."
"Ding! You have killed an Orc Retainer and a Goblin Knight. Soldier Profession experience increased by six points."
The team of over ten people grew increasingly skilled, with John and Lai Gen leading six members in the attack, while Johnny and Joseph took three others to handle the remains of their foes, ensuring that the Orc Retainers departed the battlefield in a clean manner.
As they escorted a dozen fortunate souls, the dynamics of the battlefield shifted. Sensing the strain of the conflict, the orc side finally dispatched their main forces—towering infantry nearly three meters tall, alongside wolf-mounted werewolf cavalry.
With the arrival of the enemy's main force, casualties among the knightly nobles began to mount. Although these orcs were rarely Transcendent, their racial talents and formidable physiques meant that even knights employing the Universal Qi Training Method could not deliver fatal blows with ease. Often, when a weapon sank into an orc's flesh, it was quickly overwhelmed by a swarm of orcs, leaving the knight trapped within enemy lines facing only death.
As several Wolf Riders were cut down, the Human Knights also suffered significant losses to their mounts, forcing everyone to engage in close combat alongside soldiers and orcs. The battlefield became increasingly chaotic; even John's small team could not remain unscathed. The sheer scale of human effort felt insignificant amidst the turmoil, and they could only fight back-to-back for mutual protection.
