With a plan to deal with the Cavalry, the desire to survive overcame everything. Everyone worked together, quickly filling the area with Wu Lan.
Grom held a man's head in one hand, dragging his feet along the ground, the flesh stripped away as he stopped just short of the spear formation.
"Hahaha, a bunch of Militia still trying to make a last stand. This must be one of your more important people, right?"
The Wolf Riders beside Grom plunged their curved blades into the chest of the man being held, pulling him along as they advanced, blood dripping from the blade onto the ground.
"Hahaha, little lambs, your people have come to deliver themselves to you."
The Wolf Riders stood before John, using their momentum to toss the soldier onto the pile. Blood splattered across John's face, and the already terrified Militia became even more frantic at the sight of the corpse.
"Hahaha, little lambs, just wait a moment and we’ll show you what hell looks like."
The faces of the Wolf Riders were filled with madness and disdain; the Militia were merely targets for their amusement. The noble among them still had some worth if he hadn’t lost his will.
Grom wiped his blood-soaked spiked mace clean and returned. "Young chieftain, those sheep were so boring before; they didn’t even know how to resist. Capturing human women with spirit is much more entertaining. Finally, we can have some fun with this slaughter."
Humans are like that—so disunited, scheming against each other over trivial gains. Hahaha! Did you see earlier when someone attacked their own kin just to survive? Let’s rush in later and see if these fools will run into the river and drown in fear! Hahahaha!
All the Orcs laughed heartily; to them, John and his companions were merely a feast they could indulge in whenever they pleased.
John turned over a corpse and wiped away the blood and flesh from its face, trying hard to recognize who it was.
"Lai De Wen! Lai De Wen!" Redman, slumped nearby, finally spoke up. "They’re all dead! Hahaha! They’re all dead!"
Unable to contain his anger any longer, John seemed to vent his fear as he yanked Redman over to Lai De Wen's corpse and slapped him hard across the face, shocking everyone around them.
"Lord John! That was Lord Redman!"
The surviving onlookers couldn’t believe someone dared to strike their own lord—a commoner daring to slap a noble’s face.
John didn’t care about any of that; he kept shaking Redman’s armor, spitting words all over him. "Get yourself together! They’re all dead—Lai De Wen is dead; all your comrades are dead! But damn it, you’re still alive! If you’re alive, then stand up! Are you still a man? If so, grab your sword; if not, then clean yourself up and see if those Orcs like you this way!"
No matter how much John cursed or struck him, Redman remained like a lifeless shell, allowing John to manipulate him as he pleased.
In the end, John abandoned Redman and pulled out a spear that was stuck in the ground beside him, stepping to the front of the line.
"Forget about this worthless coward! Real men pick up their Wu Lan! Our fight has just begun, and even if we die, we will stand tall until the end!"
Inspired by his words, the Militia members picked up their Wu Lan and stood beside John. In that moment, John resembled the commander of the group more than anyone else; he was the very soul of this team.
