John held the spear tightly, watching the approaching orc with focused determination as he drew closer.
"First squad, throw!"
The command rang out, and the first team launched their spears. The training they had undergone paid off; two well-aimed throws struck the Wolf Riders, disrupting their charge and throwing them into disarray.
"Yes!" The soldiers cheered as they watched their enemies fall.
But there was no time to celebrate. John quickly issued the next command.
"Raise the spears! Two men to each pole!"
Grom was seething with rage. He knew that several Orc Warriors had died just to lure the Redmen into the village. They had suffered no losses themselves, but it was the Wolf Riders who had fallen—an elite unit that was not easily replaced.
"Charge! I want that leader's head for a trophy! Damn it, do they think bamboo spears can stop us?"
The order to attack had been given, but reality was harsh. The front line of Wolf Riders and their mounts stumbled into a hidden pitfall, sending riders tumbling off their backs. Those orcs who were caught off guard were impaled by weapons jutting from the ground, struggling briefly before collapsing lifelessly.
There was no time to rein in the reins; one by one, the riders were tripped up. Those skilled in riding managed to roll away safely, while others met a fate similar to the first orc—impaled on John’s men’s weapons.
Unfortunately, time was tight, and they also needed to guard their flanks. The number of pitfalls was still too few, and the weapons scattered on the ground were too sparse. Grom, relying on the massive bulk of his Kodo Beast, broke through a gap in their lines.
"Hold strong! If we withstand this wave, we will win!"
"Immovable As A Mountain!"
"Invasion Like Fire!"
Commander Professional Skills activated his abilities.
As he gazed at the massive head of the beast looming closer, John thrust his spear with all his might toward its enormous eye.
"Heavy Strike!"
The Soldier Profession skill was unleashed.
As the spear tip neared its target, John's face broke into a victorious grin. But in an instant, a heavy iron hammer swatted his spear aside. The force of the impact sent a shockwave through his hands, causing him to lose grip on the spear.
The Kodo Beast's colossal body slammed into John's right shoulder, sending him flying several meters away as if struck by a speeding car. He landed heavily on the ground before bouncing slightly back up.
Blood sprayed from his mouth, and he couldn't muster any strength in his right shoulder. His right arm was twisted, the bones inside shattered into two pieces. Struggling to prop himself up with his left hand, John looked at the adult orc across from him, wielding dual spiked maces, radiating a red glow—Transcendent. He realized this was a Transcendent, the orc's Transcendent.
Just one Transcendent, accompanied by a few orcs, could decimate his men into disarray. John began to understand why Lai Gen had said that Macario, that big bearded man, could handle the entire Gray Bear Mercenary Corps by himself.
Transcendents—only a Transcendent could deal with another Transcendent. Yes, only a Transcendent could confront a Transcendent. Redman appeared beside John out of nowhere and helped him up.
Looking at Redman in surprise, John couldn't believe it. Had he pulled himself together?
"Don't talk. Just take this." Redman cradled a pill in his left hand and shoved it into John's mouth.
