After spending more than a week in the military camp, John had met all the people he needed to know. Unlike before, when he was the one cooking, now he was simply eating. Every day at mealtime, he would join some lower-tier nobles for dinner to expand his network. Just a moment ago, he had exchanged greetings with a knight, though not of his caliber—just a Virtual Knight.
He usually spent his time exercising and practicing the Universal Qi Training Method. Not long ago, Redman had mysteriously gifted him a version of the Universal Qi Training Method called the Military Universal Qi Training Method, claiming it was a benefit for all nobles. After Redman left, John took a look at it.
There were fourteen movements in total, and after completing them, his proficiency as a soldier only increased slightly, clearly not as effective as the template he already had. When he asked Kuiradi about it, he learned that the training methods he practiced were superior to the Military Universal Qi Training Method. It was just common stuff; however, he had no idea what Redman's method entailed. It was likely something unique since he belonged to an old noble family that surely had its own exclusive Universal Qi Training Method.
As John walked along the road, a short noble in armor blocked his path.
"John, what are you up to?"
"Oh, it's Knight Atoshan. What do you need?" John wasn't very familiar with him; they had only seen each other a few times during meals.
The other party seemed quite familiar and approached John with a smile. "Don't you know? You and Redman Baron have discovered treasure in your territory."
"You mean the pirate treasure? I know about that; it's just hearsay." He joked—how could he not know? This was common knowledge.
"It's not just hearsay! That guy from Monkey D. Luffy's family really found treasure on the beach near Coastal City."
"What!" Redman couldn't believe John's retelling.
"Isn't this just us talking nonsense? How could it be true?"
John also found it hard to believe at first, but Atoshan spoke with such conviction that later several familiar nobles confirmed it too, leaving him no choice but to accept it.
"Oh no! I'm done for! I've missed out!" Redman felt like he had lost out on a fortune. "John, that guy named Monkey D. Luffy didn’t find much treasure, did he?"
"Probably about a chest full of gold coins." As John spoke, he pressed his finger against his philtrum, fearing he might faint from heartbreak. At least five thousand gold coins—it truly was the secret treasure of a great pirate.
Redman's heart nearly stopped when he heard this; he almost fainted from shock. John hurriedly helped him stabilize himself by pressing on his philtrum until he calmed down.
"Five thousand gold coins! Wow! If I had known earlier, I would have gone to dig it up myself!"
Seeing Redman so excited, John could only offer some consolation. "Well, at least the beastmen have been cleared out. Plus, Monkey D. Luffy said that since it was dug up from your territory—even though you weren't in charge at the time—he would leave some gold coins out of consideration."
Redman was also worried about getting into unnecessary trouble; otherwise, he wouldn’t have left behind even one-tenth of the money.
"Five thousand... five... Oh man, I was such an idiot back then! Why did I have to say something so clever?"
Redman looked up at John and asked, "John, if I told you there’s treasure in Salty Fish Village right now, do you think it could be true?"
Cough, cough. John could understand the other person's feelings, but he thought it best to offer some comfort instead.
"Brother, don't take it too seriously. After all, you've earned a real title as a Baron, which is worth far more than five thousand gold coins.
You should head back now and let me be alone for a while; I just want to cry.
Yes, brother, take care of yourself. Redman, you're still alive. Losing money is tough, but it's only natural to feel upset. Just take your time to recover; there's not much more I can do to help."
