Redman furrowed his brow, staring at the young man before him, silently wondering, "Why does this guy look like he's trying to show off?" However, upon closer inspection of the other’s expression, he began to doubt his initial impression.
He decided not to respond to John's question right away and instead asked, "Hey, brother! What do you think of my men? Do they meet your standards for an elite force? If you had to rate them on a scale of ten, what score would you give me?"
Hearing this, John quickly turned his horse around, his gaze sweeping over the soldier who was slowly following Redman out of Binhai Town. The disarray in the troop's march was evident. Faced with such a scene, even if John wanted to go against his conscience and praise them as an elite unit, it would be difficult to do so.
After a moment of hesitation, John finally spoke honestly, "Brother, to be frank, your men are... well, I can only say they are quite ordinary. If I had to rate them on a scale of ten, I could only give you four at most."
Redman was taken aback by this response; he never expected John's standards to be so high. From John's somewhat reluctant tone, it was clear that this four was likely given out of brotherly affection.
"Wow, brother! Your standards are really outrageous! But let me tell you the truth: among the entire noble circle, my men can still be considered elite! I just didn’t expect that in your eyes they only deserve this score. As an elder brother, I truly admire your training skills! No wonder you were once favored by the Third Prince; it’s just a pity that the Third Prince had such a short life!"
Thinking back to the previous Third Prince, John felt that not participating in that situation was indeed a good choice. That guy had such bad luck; he feared that if there were another meteorite incident after the last one, standing next to the Third Prince would have been disastrous.
"Is that so? Perhaps my expectations for elites are too high." John understood that what he had seen as elite forces created a stark contrast with the soldiers before him.
"Brother, it's time to attack; we are almost within range of my Catapult."
"Huh? Aren't we going to exchange greetings first?" Redman still held onto the medieval custom of greeting before battle; perhaps there would even be a knightly duel.
John's lips curled into a faint smile as he fixed his sharp and determined gaze on the distant castle. He replied calmly, "Yes, it is indeed time for them to be greeted properly. Number One and Er Number Catapult will each launch a stone for positioning first, followed by ten consecutive stones. Let’s send them a grand gift!"
"Understood!" A powerful and synchronized response echoed around them.
Ten strong soldiers quickly emerged behind each Catapult. Forty of them nimbly pulled on thick ropes, their muscles taut and veins bulging with strength; another ten worked together to lift massive stones carefully onto the throwing arm.
With the commander's signal, the forty soldiers released their grip on the ropes simultaneously. In an instant, the boulders were hurled forward like arrows released from a bow by heavy counterweights. A thunderous roar erupted as the stones struck the open ground in front of the castle with tremendous force, sending dust flying everywhere.
Through this first wave of stone-throwing attacks, they roughly determined the distance to their target. The soldiers quickly sprang into action, methodically adding more weight stones to adjust the range and power of the catapults.
Next, the catapults entered a continuous firing state. One massive stone after another rained down upon the enemy's walls. Those walls that once seemed impenetrable and solid now appeared incredibly fragile under the relentless assault of these boulders.
