With a series of dull thuds, deep craters were blasted into the city walls, debris flying everywhere as clouds of dust billowed. Some of the flying stones mercilessly struck the defending soldiers, instantly reducing them to a bloody mess, a sight too horrific to bear.
Redman stared in disbelief at this scene; this contraption was no less effective than a small Magic Crystal Cannon and cost far less. If he wasn't mistaken, the materials for that Catapult were merely the sturdy pinewood from Pinewood Town, and its consumption was just a few bowls of grain and some broken stones.
If Redman was merely admiring the spectacle, then the Venetian Baron on the city wall was furious. "What the hell is this?" Venice shouted, clutching his arm that had been shattered by a flying rock. He recognized from the flags carried by nearby soldiers that this was Redman and his subordinate knight's squad. But weren't they part of the White Family? How could they launch such an attack? What was going on?
The knights who had been fighting alongside Venice were forced to retreat from the city wall. "My lord, this won't do! We can't even stand on the battlements; even the castle has been breached. While there aren't many casualties among our soldiers, their morale has plummeted."
Venice struggled to straighten his body, waving his remaining good hand holding a Wu Lan with determination in his voice. "Open the city gates! Scatter them! I refuse to believe we can't defeat this rabble in a frontal assault. Even if we die, we must take a piece of flesh from these Western nobles!"
As a gentle breeze rustled the banners, Redman did not command his soldiers to fight but stood alone at the front lines, peering through his spyglass at the distant city walls. He gripped the spyglass tightly, searching for any movement among the enemy soldiers atop the walls. Suddenly, he was astonished to see that the enemy troops stationed on the battlements were rapidly descending into the city. Alarmed, Redman quickly steadied his spyglass with his hand to confirm that what he saw was not an illusion.
Once certain, Redman wasted no time and turned to shout towards John in the rear, "John! This is bad! It seems like all of them are coming down from the walls. Are they planning to abandon their defense and engage us in open battle?"
Hearing Redman's call, John instantly perked up, excitement flashing in his eyes. He swung his sharp long knife and shouted loudly, "Open battle? Ha! That's perfect! I love open battles! Brothers, grab your Wu Lan and charge with me! Let’s leave no enemy standing!"
With John's command, he led the charge on his powerful warhorse like an arrow released from a bow towards the city gates. The numerous soldiers behind him did not lag behind; they raised various weapons high and followed closely after John's steed, marching with synchronized and powerful steps as they rushed toward the gates. In an instant, shouts of battle and the sound of hooves echoed across the battlefield, their momentum like a raging tide, unstoppable.
