John swung the Peidao in his hand, carving a sharp arc through the air, accompanied by a piercing sound of slicing through space. In an instant, several Manhe Territory Transcendent fell to the ground, screaming in agony from the sudden ambush. They didn’t even have time to comprehend how John had struck before their lives were extinguished.
Meanwhile, Venice, struggling to hold on, leaned against the wall, his left hand numbly waving the Wu Lan, his eyes filled with unwillingness as he watched John wipe down the Wu Lan.
Fine, I’ve lost, but a noble must not be humiliated!
With that, he cleaved through the encircling Transcendent Guards, then turned the blade against himself, slashing at his own neck and collapsing against the wall.
Seeing their Noble Lord fall so easily into death sent the soldiers of Manhe Territory into a panic. They exchanged glances filled with despair and helplessness. Ultimately, like deflated balloons, they all crumpled to their knees with a soft thud, unable to muster even a hint of fighting spirit.
This is it.
Redman, who had just ridden over, looked on in disbelief as soldiers began stripping off armor and collecting the Wu Lan. His eyes reflected suspicion; how could this have ended so quickly? He had expected at least a day or two of resistance from the enemy, but it had barely been an hour since the stone-throwing had ceased.
John was testing the battle knife in Venice’s hand when he heard Redman’s words and shot back irritably.
What more do you want? We have several times their numbers and an absolute advantage; our forces are exceptionally elite, with more than double the number of Transcendent. It’s no surprise we finished them off quickly.
He pulled over a nearby guard and handed Venice’s knife to him while drawing out his own Peidao, gesturing for him to take a look.
With a clang, John received back Venice’s Peidao, marveling at its quality.
I need to keep this knife safe; I want to establish a display room for my trophies in the future. This will be my first piece—after all, a Baron’s knife should be the minimum standard for such a collection.
As for those knights’ Wu Lan, I think I’ll pass. Unless I encounter particularly famous knights during our travels, I have no interest in keeping them. The children at least deserve to see their father as a grand figure.
Enemies like knights are too troublesome.
Leaving the battlefield to his subordinates, John walked into Venice’s castle with Redman. It wasn’t bad at all—though somewhat old—it seemed to belong to the previous Baron. This Venice hadn’t even bothered to renovate it.
