In the midst of the desert, a fierce wind howled, sweeping up clouds of yellow sand.
"Ugh!" John spat out the sand from his mouth, cursing silently. He had been foolish to trust that guy Redman and had set out on this adventure with high hopes, only to find no trace of joy. At this moment, he felt as if he was about to fall apart.
When he first stepped out of his territory, things had been relatively good. The neighbors were warm and hospitable, and he could occasionally enjoy a delicious meal at their homes. However, once John ventured beyond Blink County, everything became difficult. While his living conditions were not as dire as surviving in the wilderness, they were far from pleasant.
Having gone several days without cooking, John found himself forced to pick up his old skills again. The reason was simple: he couldn't stand the food prepared by his guards any longer. Every day it was either bland barbecued meat or tough slabs cooked on a stone grill. If this continued, even with John's Epic-like physique, he would soon face constipation issues.
"Kuiradi, how much longer until we reach our destination?"
Kuiradi, now in his forties, had become much steadier over the years. He had once deceived Redman into believing he was infertile, but now he was a father of three. Hearing about the adventure made him worry about leaving his children behind, which is why most of the guards accompanying John were also parents reluctant to leave their kids.
It was more like a selective escape from life; if life were so comfortable, why leave the comfort zone? Every family had its own struggles.
Kuiradi stared intently at the yellowed map in his hands, his brow furrowed as his gaze shifted back and forth between the surroundings and the map. He murmured to himself, "It should be soon," his voice barely audible yet clear enough for John to hear.
Upon hearing this, John's irritation flared into anger. He widened his eyes and glared at Kuiradi, shouting, "What do you mean 'it should be soon'? We've been wandering in this damned place for so long!" With that, he abruptly turned away to look into Kuiradi's seemingly wise eyes.
Yet at that moment of eye contact with Kuiradi, a wave of helplessness surged within John. He shook his head in resignation and raised his hand to slap himself hard across the face, cursing inwardly: How could I be so naive? I actually expected this guy to be more reliable; I really thought I could count on him!
With that thought in mind, John could no longer contain his impulse. He took a quick step forward and snatched the map from Kuiradi's hands with lightning speed. Once he had the map, he immediately bent down to scrutinize the marked coordinates.
Their goal for this adventure was a treasure map related to the Dragonborn Treasure.
On the Dragon Continent lived the most powerful race known as dragons, often found in the northeastern regions. There were seven types of dragon clans: red, gold, black, blue, purple, yellow, and green—each corresponding to fire, light, darkness, water, thunder, earth, and wind.
Of course, there were hybrids—cough—mixed-breed dragons—but their formidable strength was undeniable. Each dragon possessed legendary power from birth with Transcendent abilities; even the weakest young dragon would not be something an ordinary knight could defeat.
Some dragons could become Sanctuary-level beings after training for just a few years; however, these dragons never left the northeastern region—John had never seen one.
As for how he knew all this? Could he say that every knight story was filled with various tales of slaying evil dragons and winning over beautiful maidens? He was getting tired of those clichés.
As for today’s mention of Dragonborns—that referred to a group of people who survived after being infused with dragon blood from Sanctuary dragons. They underwent mutations that granted them immense power but transformed them into beings that were neither fully human nor fully lizard-like.
(Note: Don’t think dragon blood is a miraculous cure; it’s toxic! Remember John's first treasure?)
