John opened the treasure chest with great excitement, secretly hoping it would be filled with dazzling gemstone necklaces, magnificent jewelry, and mysterious magical artifacts. However, when the chest was fully opened, he was greatly disappointed to find nothing but a pile of unremarkable Cowhide Scrolls.
Confused, he pulled out one of the scrolls and saw it covered in strange characters he had never encountered before. These symbols seemed to belong to another world, obscure and difficult to understand. Although the paper had clearly been treated to prolong its preservation, it began to decay rapidly upon contact with air. If he didn't quickly transcribe its contents, even the slightest movement could turn this fragile parchment to dust.
In a state of urgency, John set aside thoughts about the secrets contained within the scrolls and hurriedly stripped off his clothing, unhesitatingly starting to write. He gripped the deteriorating scroll tightly, his fingers smudged with gray marks from the wall beside him as he carefully inscribed each character.
Soon, he realized that using just one piece of clothing was far from sufficient. Without hesitation, he grabbed the shirt of a nearby guard and continued to write furiously. Piece by piece, he went through seven articles of clothing before he finally managed to record all the contents of the scroll.
Once he finished transcribing, John dared not touch any other scrolls for fear of accidentally damaging more precious material. He carefully closed the treasure chest and wrapped up the clothing covered in writing.
After completing this task, he looked around and couldn't help but feel disheartened. The tomb that had once held such promise now appeared empty; apart from the ordinary treasures they had seen along the way, there was nothing else of value. This so-called treasure-hunting expedition had yielded little more than disappointment.
Motu Town
After a long and arduous journey, John led his team to a small town on the edge of the desert.
The first thing they did upon reaching their destination was meticulously transcribe all the precious documents word for word. This task seemed simple but required immense patience and perseverance.
For an entire day, the team worked diligently, their fingers moving swiftly across the pages as if they possessed Epic-level speed. Finally, as night fell, they completed this daunting task.
At that moment, John felt utterly exhausted, but he knew it was not yet time to rest. Taking a deep breath, he calmed himself and carefully reviewed the freshly transcribed papers. With his unique Scholar's Eye ability, John gradually began to unveil the mysteries hidden within these texts.
It turned out that part of these documents detailed previously unknown historical secrets. John was shocked to discover that humanity was not the original inhabitant of this vast continent.
Instead, they had migrated from a long-destroyed alternate world through an ancient teleportation array. That forsaken realm had become fragmented and devastated due to catastrophic disasters triggered by large-scale battles.
When humanity first set foot on this new continent, they exhibited remarkable courage and strategy. They launched a surprise attack against the powerful Troll Empire and swiftly occupied large territories. Subsequently, with the exceptional magical control skills of Sanctuary Mages, humanity cleverly manipulated the leaders of the Troll Empire and incited conflicts among various other races. Thus began a chaotic situation that would last for three years.
