"Hey, Gao Shun, come over and keep me company for a bit," Dian Wei called gently.
Gao Shun was startled but quickly composed himself. Since Dian Wei had previously done a favor for the Gao Family, he didn’t refuse and quickly walked over to Dian Wei's side.
Under the night sky, Dian Wei smiled gently at Gao Shun. "How old are you now?"
Gao Shun replied, "Reporting to you, I just turned fifteen today."
At such a young age, already showing such filial piety—truly an outstanding individual. Dian Wei nodded in approval and patted his shoulder.
As the ancients said: Filial piety is the root of all virtues. Particularly in our country's history, especially during the Han Dynasty, filial conduct was highly valued. The selection process often included recommendations based on filial piety as a means of choosing worthy individuals.
Xiao was well-known and admired by many people, which led to opportunities for him to serve as an official. Gao Shun unconsciously touched the tip of his nose, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Brother, please don’t praise me like that; I might become too proud."
Dian Wei immediately laughed. "Your respect for your elders is evident; it’s not baseless flattery. And please stop calling me benefactor; I’m just a bit older than you. You can call me Brother like Zhu Yan does."
Gao Shun paused for a moment. "Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?"
Dian Wei waved his hand dismissively. "What’s inappropriate about it? I don’t mind at all; you’re the one who seems to care."
Seeing Dian Wei so resolute, Gao Shun reluctantly nodded in agreement and then clasped his fists in salute. "Brother Dian Wei."
Dian Wei returned the gesture with a hearty laugh. "Brother Gao Shun."
The two exchanged smiles, understanding each other without needing many words. Dian Wei carefully examined Gao Shun, particularly noticing his rough and sturdy hands. It was clear that these hands were familiar with labor in the fields and skilled in martial arts. "Brother Gao Shun, by your appearance, you must have learned quite a few martial techniques, right?"
Gao Shun nodded in response. "I know a little."
Hearing this, Dian Wei's interest was piqued. "How about we spar a bit?"
Gao Shun shrugged and said, "It’s not that I don’t want to spar with you, Brother Dian Wei; it’s just that I didn’t bring my weapons."
Dian Wei chuckled in reply. He casually unfastened a pair of iron twin halberds and several small blades from his body and tossed them onto the ground. "That’s fine; we can practice unarmed instead."
Upon hearing this suggestion, Gao Shun immediately felt more enthusiastic:
Since my brother has the interest, I, as the younger sibling, will not hold back.
With that, the two of them arrived at an open area. They exchanged formal greetings first.
"Dian Wei, please make your move."
"Gao Shun, I look forward to your guidance."
As soon as the words were spoken, they immediately began their sparring session. Although Gao Shun was only fifteen years old, he had developed a strong physique, standing tall with well-defined muscles and immense strength. His punches and kicks were nearly at their peak.
As for Dian Wei, his prowess was even more astonishing. He stood over two meters tall and had an incredibly robust build. Seeing Dian Wei so enthusiastic, Gao Shun was unwilling to dampen his spirits and kept his lips pressed together as he continued to engage in battle.
After more than ten exchanges, Gao Shun gradually found himself being pushed back. More accurately, it felt as though his opponent was intentionally restraining his strength. Many times, just when it seemed he could defeat him, Dian Wei would shift his movements.
