Such a land system means that in times of disaster, the villagers can unite and endure hardships together. In other villages, however, there may be situations where, within a clan, wealthy landlords disregard familial ties to forcibly acquire land from their own kin, leading to a few families amassing great wealth while others either fall into poverty or are forced into dependency.
After tireless efforts, Zhao Yun ultimately quelled the local refugee sentiment and reasonably allocated housing for over a thousand refugees based on prior registrations. With eleven existing buildings capable of accommodating people, there were still extra rooms available after settling more than eleven hundred individuals. These reserved rooms would be used to welcome more people in need in the future.
The residents who were assigned housing cheered with joy, eagerly rushing to explore their new homes. Although the distance between these eleven buildings was only ten meters, the relatively low height of the structures ensured that each household received ample sunlight. The only minor flaw was that each room measured only a few square meters and needed to house four people; however, for refugees who had long been without stable shelter, this was an excellent haven.
Before this, most of them could barely find a decent place to spend the night. Even those who had once lived as tenant farmers in landlords' households often endured harsh living conditions, sharing cramped, dirty, and chaotic sleeping arrangements with many others. Thus, when these individuals discovered they could reside in clean and tidy rooms measuring enough space for four people, they could not hide their inner joy.
Although this living arrangement might be considered lacking in personal space by modern standards accustomed to privacy, at that time, any housing solution that provided warmth and satisfaction to the majority was particularly precious. Zhao Yun recognized this point as well; therefore, he took special measures during the allocation process to separate residents of different genders unless they were spouses or family members, ensuring that men and women lived separately in each building to avoid issues related to mixed-gender housing.
Zhao Yun's meticulous arrangements garnered widespread praise. Yun Yi was completely unaware of the excitement among the refugees; at that moment, he was busy preparing to leave home for Taihang Mountain. The Zhao Family Village was only a few steps away from the Taihang Mountains, but his trip was expected to take some time—at least several days to a week or even longer. Thus, it was essential to pack all necessary belongings.
His common tools—a furnace, an iron anvil, and a crafting table—were naturally required to be carried along. Additionally, he brought an enchanted fishing rod; should he feel like fishing during his travels, it would provide some leisure. As for food, he packed some pre-cooked fish sufficient for his needs along with several barrels of Qing Shui and milk for sustenance.
Though he had no fear of hardship, if misfortune were to strike and he fell in battle, the items in his pack would be lost forever; therefore, safety had to be prioritized above all else.
Lumber, coal, and iron ore are basic resources that should be brought in moderation, ensuring that once they reach the Taihang Mountains, they won't lack these essentials.
Speaking of navigation tools, the current Level Map in hand is quite limited, with its coverage restricted to just a few meters around Zhao Family Village, far less intuitive than relying on one's own eyes. However, since there is still potential for improvement, Yun Yi decided to place the map and eight blank sheets next to the Iron Anvil in an attempt to upgrade it.
After the upgrade, the map expanded to cover a range of several hundred meters, yet it still did not meet the needs. Upon reaching level four, the map displayed a broad view of several hundred meters by several hundred meters, but most areas remained shrouded in darkness, as if obscured by the clouds of war. Only places he had personally traversed would appear on the map.
Although the Level Four Map was still usable for military strategies, it posed significant limitations for long-distance travel. In reality, compared to the fixed mindset in the virtual world, Yun Yi was pleasantly surprised to discover that the level four map still had upgrade potential. By adding eight blank sheets into the Iron Anvil, the Level Four Map instantly transformed into a Fifth Level Map that covered four times the area, measuring several hundred meters in width and height.
Zhao Family Village shrank to an almost negligible dot; however, even so, Taihang Mountains were still not fully revealed—just within sight. It was anticipated that with another upgrade, the edges of the mountains would come into view.
For this day, Yun Yi continued placing eight blank sheets atop the Iron Anvil, striving for a Level Map that would provide an astonishing coverage area of several hundred meters in length and width. Examining this new navigation tool, he could even see the narrow path by the riverside where he had once encountered Dian Wei in a thrilling moment.
The location of Mei Wan Village remained partially obscured as it lay at the edge of his current vision. Nevertheless, all signs pointed to their destination being within reach. The distance from the edge of the map to its center was approximately eight miles. Meanwhile, Xinghua Village was over ten miles away from Zhao Family Village; it was only natural that it appeared unclear.
However, with just one more level increase, it should become visible. To test this hypothesis, Yun Yi placed the map back on the Iron Anvil again. Using eight blank sheets for materials to upgrade once more resulted in the creation of a Seventh Level Map.
This new map could astonishingly cover a width and length reaching several hundred meters. Even when Yun Yi stood within its confines, he could see Xinghua Village over ten miles away and even catch sight of the edges of Taihang Mountains that he had previously traversed. However, Xinghua Village could accommodate two clans and appeared no larger than a fingertip on this map.
If one has not personally experienced it, it may be difficult to discern solely from the map. Yun Yi did not stop there; he continued to upgrade the map until it reached the Ninth Level. Although the Ninth Level is not the limit of the map's upgrades, a larger map does not necessarily mean a better one. In fact, due to the scale of the map, the larger the area displayed, the more challenging it becomes to use.
This single Ninth Level map showcases an expanse that stretches for miles in length and width. In other words, Zhao Family Village might only appear as a few pixel-sized dots on this map; all the paths he had walked combined would occupy less than one percent of this vast map.
