Under the coolness of the night, Yun Yi found a small stream around the Taihang Mountains to fish and enjoy some solitude. After working hard for so long, wasn't it time to relax and savor the moment? This stream was actually one of the main sources feeding into the Hutuo River upstream.
In contrast to the dwindling number of visitors downstream at the Hutuo River, this upstream flow remained vigorous. Of course, this stream had also been affected by prolonged drought, shrinking from its original width of several dozen meters to about five meters now.
Oh, another fish was on the line. Seeing the White Buoy sink quickly, Yun Yi acted swiftly, yanking the fishing rod. In an instant, a lively fish leaped from the water and landed at his feet. Yun Yi frowned slightly; it was just another ordinary little fish. He picked it up and tossed it into the nearby stove used for heating.
Once cooked through, Yun Yi placed it on a dining table made of stone slabs. Before long, the grilled fish piled up like a small hill on the table.
At that moment, a gentle sound of hooves echoed from afar. The hoofbeats were not hurried, almost matching the pace of a walking person. Following that was the sound of wheels rolling over the ground. A figure dressed in a gray robe appeared through the dense forest, walking steadily toward where Yun Yi was sitting.
The young man, Qing Ren, was exceptionally handsome, standing about nine feet tall. His complexion was rosy like a jujube, and his lips seemed to be painted with bright red. His phoenix eyes sparkled with intensity, and his beautifully arched eyebrows resembled the shape of silkworms. He had a strikingly handsome appearance, exuding an air of authority as he walked. A small amount of stubble adorned his chin, neatly groomed.
Beside Qing Ren was an old, weary horse pulling a simple cart. The cart was piled high with more than a dozen bulging sacks.
Qing Ren approached Yun Yi and cupped his hands in greeting, saying, "Young man, I have some Red Dates here. Would you be willing to trade for some fish or meat?"
Yun Yi looked up and was momentarily stunned by the face before him. It was astonishingly similar! This face, this height, this physique—it was almost like a replica of Guan Ye. But then he thought to himself, shouldn’t Guan Ye be in Youzhou, Zhuojun right now? Although he wasn’t entirely sure about that detail. All he knew was that Guan Ye would soon become sworn brothers with Liu Xuande and Yan Ren Zhang Fei in the Peach Garden.
Qing furrowed his brows slightly, feeling puzzled inside. Why was this person staring at him so intently? Did he have some sort of peculiar interest? The thought made Qing feel a wave of nervousness.
"Young man, why do you keep staring at me?"
Yun Yi snapped back to reality and smiled awkwardly. "I apologize; it’s just that you look remarkably like someone I know."
After hearing Yun Yi's explanation, Qing let out a sigh of relief, secretly laughing at his own overthinking. Fortunately, his face was already flushed, so he didn't reveal any signs of embarrassment.
Yun Yi patted the empty seat beside him and smiled, "No need to be polite. Let's sit down and eat together. I have plenty of fish and meat here; I can't finish it all by myself."
However, Qing shook his head and politely declined with a cupped fist gesture. "One should naturally repay kindness. If it's inconvenient for you, then please don't worry about it."
Yun Yi shrugged, conceding, "Alright then, how about we trade for some Red Dates? Let's enjoy it together."
