Despite Yun Yi's body having taken on the form of Steve, it did not mean that his mind was as fearless as Steve's. Spending a long time in such a confined space put immense psychological pressure on him. Therefore, a reasonable excavation should create at least a meter-wide space, which meant that four units needed to be dug out for each layer.
With this estimation, Yun Yi would have to excavate hundreds of thousands of blocks of stone. This was no small number, exceeding the amount he had mined during his time in Taihang Mountain. This was also one of the reasons he had initially been reluctant to dig directly down to the magma. However, the situation had changed.
After leveling up, Yun Yi's health had significantly increased, and with abundant supplies of wood and iron ore, he had enough resources to sustain himself for quite some time. Thus, digging directly down to the magma had become a feasible plan. At the same time, this also provided him with the opportunity to gather more stone blocks for future construction of houses and other structures.
Upon returning to the location of the Water Ladder, Yun Yi planned to explore downward along the waterway. With the help of the Water Ladder, traversing up and down would be effortless, no matter how deep he dug.
Afterward, he meticulously checked the supplies in his backpack: a Crafting Table, a Blacksmith Table, two iron pickaxes with high Efficiency Enchantment Power, an Iron Barrel, wood, Iron Ingots, and torches—all in order.
Next, Yun Yi took out two Enchanted Iron Pickaxes that shimmered with an alluring glow and gripped them tightly in his hands.
"Let’s get started!"
With that, the iron pickaxes fell into action. Under the effect of the Efficient Enchantment, the hard granite was instantly shattered into small rock fragments and collected into his pack. As he rapidly dug downward, a sound echoed in his ears that seemed to come from the underworld itself.
The sound of tapping echoed through the narrow, dimly lit underground corridor. With each segment of earth removed, the Water Ladder above descended further: meter by meter, in the blink of an eye, Yun Yi had already dropped over a meter.
The atmosphere grew increasingly oppressive, shrouded in darkness. He quickly retrieved a special torch from his backpack and fixed it to the wall, its warm glow dispelling some of the shadows. This small light brought him a measure of comfort.
Mining underground was a significant test of one's psychological endurance. The extreme silence weighed heavily on him, creating an almost unbearable sense of pressure. Fortunately, he was well-prepared.
Yun Yi transformed into Steve. He no longer needed to worry about the burden above; his only concern was managing his mental stress. Just as the magically enchanted pickaxe approached the end of its lifespan, Yun Yi swiftly excavated a platform approximately two meters wide ahead.
He then took out a Workshop Table and a Blacksmith's Anvil from his backpack and set them up on the platform. He activated the workshop and fed in several unprocessed pieces of wood and metal ore, crafting two new pickaxes.
Next, he activated the Blacksmith's Anvil, placing the Cursed Pickaxe and a regular pickaxe on either side of the raw materials area to repair their durability. In an instant, the enchanted pickaxe's durability was restored to its full state.
Finally, he packed away the Workshop Table and Blacksmith's Anvil into his backpack.
