The Days I Transmigrated into "Mo Dao Zu Shi": Part Two 25: Punishment

Today, I had hoped to sleep in a little longer since it was a day off from classes, but Qi Wei still arrived bright and early to knock on my door. 0

"Mian Fei, you're up late? This won't do! You only eat one meal a day; what will you do if you miss breakfast?" 0

...Isn't it fine to just have lunch instead? People shouldn't be so rigid! 0

Before I could protest, she dragged me out after I reluctantly got up and tidied myself. 0

As I stumbled into the Dining Hall with Qi Wei, I immediately sensed something unusual— the usual whispers that accompanied my appearance had fallen silent. Everyone looked at me as if I were a harbinger of disaster, doing their best to avoid me. 0

It seemed that the punishment of writing lines yesterday had indeed served as a deterrent; at least I no longer had to worry about rampant rumors. 0

Now, I had become someone everyone avoided at all costs. 0

Well... from another perspective, this might not be such a bad thing. 0

It appeared that the only person still willing to approach me was the ever-determined Qi Wei by my side. 0

After getting our meals, we found a corner table and sat down. 0

"Mian Fei, how about I accompany you to the library later?" Qi Wei suggested, her brow furrowing in thought. "But I've read through some documents related to Master Song Zichen before, and they didn't mention how Master Song and Senior Wei met. Why does Mr. Lan want you to look into it?" 0

Oh right, I had almost forgotten about that! 0

"Well... perhaps it's so I can learn more about Master Song's character and background. After all, I don't know much about him," I replied casually. 0

"Speaking of which, what kind of person do you think Master Song Zichen is?" 0

"Well..." I pondered for a moment. "I believe Master Song is somewhat similar to Hanguang Jun; both are serious and not very talkative. However, compared to Hanguang Jun, Master Song seems a bit more approachable in his interactions with others, though he still prefers not to engage with people." 0

"So, under what circumstances did Master Song take you in? And how long have you lived with him? Just the two of you—doesn't that raise any eyebrows?" 0

An inexplicable sense of discomfort made me quietly lift my gaze to her. "...Is there more?" 0

"Yes, yes! Why did Master Song choose to live in Yiling? Does he know about Master Xiao Xingchen's death? What does Master Song look like? And also..." 0

I listened silently as she rattled off a slew of questions, maintaining my indifference. "Is there more?" 0

"Um..." Qi Wei tilted her head in thought. "That's it; those should be all the questions." 0

It was clear that these questions were not her own curiosity but rather inquiries from others. 0

I had thought the crowd's curiosity would have reached its limit, but it seemed they had simply changed their approach. 0

Lacking the courage to confront me directly, they had found a scapegoat to gather information instead? 0

Did these people treat gossip as their spiritual sustenance? Honestly, I truly felt that this group of girls was far too idle! 0

"Is that so?" I casually surveyed the room, taking note of those pretending to eat while actually straining to hear the answers. A faint smile crossed my lips. "Then, regarding all the questions above, I must respectfully decline to answer." 0

I certainly don't want to be caught off guard and reveal something I shouldn't, nor do I have any obligation to satisfy your curiosity. 0

In an instant, I could faintly hear some disappointed murmurs around me. 0

At this, Qi Wei suddenly froze, then awkwardly scratched her face with her finger. "Uh, well..." 0

I expressionlessly tapped the table twice with my index finger. "No talking while eating. Now, focus on your meal." 0

"Ah, okay..." 0

*** 0

"…Mian Fei, are you angry?" In the library, Qi Wei cautiously whispered to me. 0

"Hmm? Not at all." I smiled leisurely at her. "What's wrong?" 0

Rather than being angry, it would be more accurate to say I felt helpless; besides, these matters had nothing to do with her, so I had no reason to be upset with her. 0

"Um… nothing, it's good if you're not…" Qi Wei quietly touched her nose. "Ah, there are probably just these records about Master Song's deeds." 0

"Okay, thank you." I took the stack of books from her and placed them on the table beside me, slowly flipping through them one by one. 0

The library contained many important records from various eras of the cultivation world, as well as accounts of demonic beasts and other strange entities, along with numerous musical scores. Although it was open for disciples to read, few would come in unless they had a specific need to look up information. 0

The records in the scroll regarding Song Lan are mostly just a few lines, and they primarily relate to Xiao Xingchen or the White Snow Temple. In fact, there are even more entries about Xiao Xingchen than about Song Lan, as if Song Lan were merely an appendage to Xiao Xingchen's existence. 0

I had originally thought that I could boast to Master Song about having read his heroic deeds when I returned, but... well, it doesn't matter; I will still brag! 0

I wonder what kind of expression he will have when I tell him? Heh! 0

"Ah, and there's this." Qi Wei brought over another book. "This is the report on what Mr. Lan Sizhui and the others experienced in Yicheng. Although it doesn't mention Master Song, it details the circumstances of Master Xiao Xingchen's murder. Do you want to read it?" 0

"Oh, sure!" Just what I wanted to see! 0

I carefully browsed through the account of the Yicheng incident, confirming that it only mentioned the long-standing grievances between Xue Yang and Xiao Xingchen. It barely touched on A Qing's bamboo stick guiding them; as for Song Lan's presence, he was likely subsumed within the corpses controlled by Xue Yang, with his name completely omitted. 0

For some reason, I felt a sense of relief. 0

Although I wasn't sure if the records kept by each clan were consistent, at least it was clear that the world still recognized Song Lan as alive. There shouldn't be any trouble arising from Wailing Hill because of this. 0

Unless one of the young heirs who experienced the Yicheng incident back then let something slip... 0

"Ah, Guest Minister Wei, I've found you." A disciple named Xu Ran entered and walked towards me. "Guest Minister Wei, Hanguang Jun requests your presence; please come with me." 0

Hanguang Jun? What could he want now? I turned to Qi Wei in confusion. 0

"Oh, it's fine! You go ahead! I'll take care of things here," Qi Wei quickly replied. 0

"I'm sorry to trouble you," I said as I turned to bow to the Disciple. "Please lead the way." 0

I had thought we were heading to the Parlor, but instead, I was taken to the Quiet Room. 0

Outside the Quiet Room, I saw Wei Wuxian sitting sideways and yawning, seemingly waiting for my arrival, while Lan Wangji was nowhere to be seen. 0

"Senior Wei," the Disciple greeted Wei Wuxian and then glanced around. "Huh? Where's Hanguang Jun?" 0

"Lan Zhan had something to attend to and left for now. You can just hand her over to me," Wei Wuxian replied with a smile. 0

"Well then, Guest Minister Wei has been delivered. I'll take my leave now." 0

"Thanks for your hard work!" 0

Once the Disciple left, Wei Wuxian turned to me, who was still in a daze, and asked curiously, "Xiaohua, what happened yesterday? Why did it cause such a commotion?" 0

Although I didn't quite understand the situation, I answered him nonetheless, "Are you referring to the incident where the Female Cultivators were collectively punished for skipping classes? I don't think that's my fault." 0

So is this an interrogation session? Why does it feel like I'm being treated as the instigator? I'm clearly the victim here! 0
