I left the company, allowing the internal chaos to continue brewing.
The frequency of my phone vibrating told me that the situation at the company must be a complete mess.
“Yue Yue, do you know?” My father’s voice came through the line. “The investor is seriously questioning the product's progress. Your company is in a precarious position.”
I chuckled lightly. “Oh? Has the truth come out so soon?”
“The investor wants to reassess the investment plan,” my father said, a hint of schadenfreude in his tone. “It seems your predictions were correct.”
Just then, the doorbell rang.
I opened the door to find Wu Zhifeng and Zhang Yuanliang standing outside, their faces pale.
“Li Siyue, you have to help us!” Wu Zhifeng’s tone had softened considerably. “The investor is holding a product review meeting tomorrow.”
Zhang Yuanliang also dropped his usual arrogance. “As long as you’re willing to cooperate, the position of project leader is still yours.”
I leaned against the doorframe, watching them with amusement. “Cooperate with what?”
“Prove our product's progress in front of the investor,” Wu Zhifeng said.
“So you want me to lie?” I stated bluntly.
“This isn’t lying! It’s just… slightly embellishing the progress,” Zhang Yuanliang hurriedly explained.
I scoffed. “You want me to admit to those false development plans?”
“Li Siyue, don’t be so ungrateful!” Wu Zhifeng’s tone turned aggressive again.
“Do you know what happens when you offend me?”
“What happens?” I retorted. “Like what?”
"You can forget about mixing in this circle from now on!" Wu Zhifeng roared from outside the door.
I glanced at my watch. "Sorry, I have something to attend to."
"Li Siyue!" Wu Zhifeng blocked the doorway. "Are you really going to go against the company to the end?"
"I just don't want to help you lie," I replied calmly.
"If that counts as going against us, then so be it."
"You!" Wu Zhifeng trembled with anger.
"By the way, I suggest you start preparing Plan B now," I added.
"What do you mean?" Zhang Yuanliang asked warily.
I smiled meaningfully. "The Investor's review can't be fooled with just a PowerPoint presentation."
"What exactly do you want?" Wu Zhifeng's gaze turned fierce.
I gently closed the door, and through the door panel, Wu Zhifeng's furious roar echoed: "Li Siyue! I will make sure you can't stay in this industry!"
---
In the morning, when I clocked in, my employee badge was rejected.
"Li Siyue, you are no longer an employee of the company," Zhang Yuanliang strode over with a victorious smile on his face.
"Your access has been revoked."
I calmly pressed the recording button on the device in my pocket.
"So, I've been fired?"
"Yes, you've been fired!" Zhang Yuanliang said from a position of superiority.
"People like you, who don't fit in, should have left long ago. Don't even think about mingling in this circle anymore!"
"Alright, may I ask if there is a written notice?" I continued to inquire.
His expression suddenly froze.
HR Xiao Li hurried over, "Li Siyue, please come here."
In the office, the HR took out a voluntary resignation agreement.
"The company is willing to pay one month's salary as compensation," the HR said gently.
"You know this circle is quite small; we'll inevitably have to interact in the future."
I smiled, "I remember the company policy states that employees must give one month's notice before terminating their labor contract, along with corresponding compensation clauses."
"Well..." the HR was at a loss for words.
"And just now, Product Director Zhang Yuanliang clearly stated that I was dismissed."
I pressed the play button on my recorder, and Zhang Yuanliang's arrogant voice came through clearly.
The HR's expression changed.
"Li Siyue, don't make this situation too ugly," she lowered her voice.
"The company still has some influence in the industry."
"Thank you for the reminder; we'll see each other at the Labor Bureau," I replied as I returned to my desk to pack my belongings and leave.
A week later, I submitted an application to the Labor Arbitration Committee.
The evidence included: recordings, email correspondence, work group chat records, as well as previous performance evaluations and project bonus announcements.
The company began to exert various pressures on me.
My social circle was being screenshotted and spread around, and I received calls from headhunters hinting that I had no opportunities left in the industry.
"Do you think it's worth it?" my father asked with concern.
"Of course it's worth it," I replied firmly. "This is not just about compensation; it's about proving what is right."
Three months later, the arbitration results were announced.
"According to the relevant provisions of the Labor Law, the company unlawfully terminated the labor contract and must pay compensation equivalent to ten months' salary, along with a project bonus of one hundred thousand yuan..."
I looked at Zhang Yuanliang's pale face across from me, feeling no emotion inside.
"Li Siyue!" he called out as he blocked my way in the hallway.
"You've won, but you won't be able to stay in this circle anymore!"
I stopped and turned to face him.
"Oh really? Then guess where my next job will be."
